Race 1:
OVERVIEW: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (9) gained the perfect trip behind the leader but extended beautifully at the end and scored by a comfortable margin in his heat last week. Driver Alex Ashwood drove both of the heat winners for the series and is driving APOLOGY ACCEPTED (9) tonight, which appears to be a strong lead. KEAYANG CRIPPA (1) attempted to lead throughout and was grabbed on the line when a narrow second in his heat. He is drawn to find the lead again and should give a bold showing. GLITZY ALL OVER (7) angled out very wide from the 300m and finished off quickly when an eye-catching third in her heat. She lacks early dash but she is a winning hope, particularly if she can hold the back of KEAYANG CRIPPA (1) at the start. HESASTAR (8) was heavily supported and battled on well for third in his heat. He is worth thought along with ROJENBYE (12), which scored after receiving the perfect trip in his heat performance.
SELECTIONS: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (9), KEAYANG CRIPPA (1), GLITZY ALL OVER (7), HESASTAR (8)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: RONZEL MICKY (11) settled four back on the outside, circled around a tiring runner at the bell then finished off well for second behind Royal Saxon last week. She boasts a strong record at Mildura with ten victories to her credit and she should be hitting the line strongly against this opposition. OUR MASTER PLAY (12) hasn’t performed up to expectations at his past two attempts but he is usually competitive against this class and scored over Hesastar and Royal Saxon at a Midura victory on December 30, which is a good form reference. BEARTASTIC WRITER (3) is a fast beginner and performs best when he is able to lead. He attempted to lead throughout when third behind DIAMOND KRUSHER (8) at his latest attempt. MAGGACIS (6) settled three back on the markers, was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well for second two weeks ago then struck trouble at the 300m last week. He is racing better than his form reads and rates as a value hope.
SELECTIONS: RONZEL MICKY (11), OUR MASTER PLAY (12), BEARTASTIC WRITER (3), MAGGACIS (6)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: ROYAL SAXON (4) continues to race in great form having been placed at his past six starts (3 wins) and should give another forward showing. He is a fast beginner and led throughout for a comfortable victory last week against slightly easier opposition. KING SAINT (10) is the class runner of the field but he is first up from a break without going to the trials. He has had two starts at Mildura for a win and a third and his latest race track appearance was a third placed effort back in September. ALWAYS ON SAFARI (7) is a versatile pacer, which was wide early, gained a one out and one back trail mid-race then made a long run out three horses wide from the 700m at his latest creditable third. He was a strong winner at Gawler three starts ago and should be competitive again. THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (2) finished off fast for an eye-catching third last week and has claims along with WATCHTHECLOCK (3) and CHEERS POVERTY (5).
SELECTIONS: ROYAL SAXON (4), KING SAINT (10), ALWAYS ON SAFARI (7), THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (2)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: MAXY WANTS TO PLAY (8) is a track specialist having won at his past five appearances at Mildura and he came from last when a big winner over his classy stable mate Hot Deal on January 23. He met a smart field when fifth at Kilmore last outing and should prove hard to beat under these conditions. DHAULAGIRI (9) raced without cover throughout and went down fighting when a brave second in the Italian Cup at Globe Derby after a fourth in the Wedderburn Cup. He is racing in fine form and this is a drop back in class so he must be considered as a strong winning chance. TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (6) followed up behind JAXON BEACH (5) throughout and got home best to defeat that pacer last week. He has been placed in nineteen of his twenty-two starts at Mildura to date and will run his usual honest race. JAXON BEACH (5) has returned to his peak form recently and is a place chance along with LITTLE LOUIE (7).
SELECTIONS: MAXY WANTS TO PLAY (8), DHAULAGIRI (9), TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (6), JAXON BEACH (5)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (2) is a brilliant beginner and is a good chance of leading throughout over the sprint distance. He attempted to lead throughout over the longer trip when second behind THEBUCKSONYOU (7) last week. AVOCA BLUES (5) showed a return to form when he attempted to lead throughout last week and finished second in a slick mile rate of 1.55.8. He gets into this race with a concession claim and is worth thought again. THEBUCKSONYOU (7) settled three back on the inside, moved away from the markers coming out of the back straight and finished off best to win against similar opposition last week. He is awkwardly drawn but is worth thought again. RONZEL RAFA (6) dropped back to last from a poor draw and was doing his best work at the end when fourth in the same race last week. He is poorly drawn again but is a winning chance if he gains the right luck in running.
SELECTIONS: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (2), AVOCA BLUES (5), THEBUCKSONYOU (7), RONZEL RAFA (6)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: CARLISLE CRUISER (2) trailed the leader and had no clear run in the straight when an unlucky seventh at Mildura last week. He finished strongly for a game second prior and he is a good chance of finding the lead from his handy draw so he is worth an investment. CAULONIA TERROR (1) will appreciate his best draw for a long time and he possesses a handy finishing burst so he looms as a value hope. LILSTREPO (4) is racing in career best form and was driven aggressively when she scored at Shepparton last week. She is a versatile mare and will prove tough to beat again. THE NAKED ART (7) faces a steep rise in class on her past two victories but she is drawn to gain an economical run on the markers and has been recording fast times so she could take the next step forward.
SELECTIONS: CARLISLE CRUISER (2), CAULONIA TERROR (1), LILSTREPO (4), THE NAKED ART (7)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: OZZIE PEARL (8) is returning from Tasmania and strikes a very suitable assignment. She disappointed at Carrick last outing but she was a winner on that track in December and the last time she competed at Mildura, she finished a nose second in a slick mile rate of 1.58.9. KEAYANG HUNGRY (3) is racing consistently and is a strong chance of winning at his Mildura debut. He trailed the leader, used the sprint lane and missed out by a narrow margin at his debut performance and has done well since. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (7) trailed the leader, was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well when an unlucky second behind Rooster Phillips last week. He is awkwardly drawn but is worth a ticket each way. LUVN MARY (1) is resuming since a fourth at Mildura in May. She will be fitter after three recent trial performances and is perfectly drawn so she is likely to attract plenty of support.
SELECTIONS: OZZIE PEARL (8), KEAYANG HUNGRY (3), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (7), LUVN MARY (1)
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: THE NINJA (5) pushed forward to find the lead, raced fiercely and went down fighting when a close second behind Sweet Marion at Mildura last week. He has been placed at his past four starts against similar opposition and deserves to break through for a win. LIFE ONA HIGHWAY (7) is resuming since October and hasn’t been to the trials but he strikes a suitable assignment first up. He finished fourth at his latest Mildura appearance back in September. DON KATTERZ (8) settled in a rearward position and was doing his best work at the end when fourth at his Mildura debut. This race is no harder and he is worth thought. WICKED CONFESSION (3) will find this race to be easier than her performances in the South-East and is a possible improver at her first start for trainer Alex Ashwood.
SELECTIONS: THE NINJA (5), LIFE ONA HIGHWAY (7), DON KATTERZ (8), WICKED CONFESSION (3)
