Burnie, Friday 6 February

Race 1

The 1892m stand start makes it very hard for those not on speed to make ground up, so if DONE WELL (2) stepped and led like she did last time at Burnie, she would take some running down again. ONEOFTHELADS (5) is a very fast beginner and could cross from out wide but still may need to improve on his recent efforts. ANDAMAN BAY (3) has been consistent of late and looks to get his chance to break through again if was able to sit on speed. OBLER (7), CAN FEEL THE FURY (8) and SAPPHIRE GAMBLER (9) will be hoping to begin quickly and settle midfield at worst, which would enhance there chances, whilst TULLAH GIRL (1) didn’t time the start well last start when slowly away, but no reason she couldn’t be in the finish with a better start.

Selections ANDAMAN BAY (3), DONE WELL (2), TULLAH GIRL (1), ONEOFTHELADS (5)

Staking Strategy:  ANDAMAN BAY (3) can land on speed over the shorter distance and get his chance. 2 unit win – ANDAMAN BAY (3)

Race 2

ROCKS ROY (5) was seen making solid ground on the pegs last start in a race where the backmarkers struggled to get into the race, so a front row draw will be helpful this time. COLBY SANZ (2) is a super consistent 9yo who loves being on speed, and looks to get his chance here again from the good draw, whilst DENNY (1) can be a threat if he was able to start a tad quicker than he has the past months on the country race circuit. GOODTIME OSCAR (4) galloped away last time after winning 5 straight over summer, which he climbed through his classes due to that and no different again here, but can be in the finish if he steps well. SETTEBELLO (6) flies the stand but draws inside the front back row, whilst the higher-class horses comes off 10m and 20m, but will need solid tempo on to get in the finish.

Selections ROCKS ROY (5), COLBY SANZ (2), DENNY (1), WINDY HANOVER (9)

Staking Strategy:  Small plays on COLBY SANZ (2) who gets back to a good front row draw from the stand, and ROCKS ROY (5) who is flying without winning of late. 1 unit win – COLBY SANZ (2) & ROCKS ROY (5)

Race 3

Back to the mobile start, where STEPUPNDANCE (3) is 1 from 23 starts, but has been racing stronger races than what she meets today. There is a bit of gate speed inside but think she could dictate the tempo outside the leader. BROADWAY BLING (1) gets the pole draw to attempt to lead, although SPORTS READER (2) showed good gate speed at Carrick last start, and may look to find the pegs. HEY FRANCO (8) got put to ODM status after being a handful to the track attendants last start, but no doubt has the most ability in the race and could run straight past them if they go solid tempo at any time of the race. STANTON BREAK (5) has consistent form and will be relying on some tempo also, whilst SHEZALLLOLLIES (4) could be the improver.

Selections STEPUPNDANCE (3), HEY FRANCO (8), BROADWAY BLING (1), STANTON BREAK (5)

Staking Strategy:  Might be some speed on early here, which will allow HEY FRANCO (8) to sprint fast late and run over the top. 2 unit win – HEY FRANCO (8)

Race 4

JUDYSMEMUM (2) got interfered with and copped a flat tyre last start when a $1.30 favourite, however looks to get her chance to return to her good form at her home track. OUTBACK ROCK (1) has some gate speed but expect would be happy to hand up against these grades of horses, which may put REPETITIVE (6) 3 pegs, who has been super consistent prior to his last start performance, and would be dangerous late if gaps appeared. MIKIYOURSOFINE (8) has been in great form and can do it tough or driven with a sit, whilst JILLIBY MENDOZA (7) is well placed again to be in the finish, which those mentioned should be beating the rest of the lower classed field assembled in the race.

Selections JUDYSMEMUM (2), MIKIYOURSOFINE (8), REPETITIVE (6), JILLIBY MENDOZA (7)

Staking Strategy:  Although she’s racing higher win horses, JUDYSMEMUM (2) can sit on speed, or even work her way to the front at her home track and be hard to beat. 4 unit win – JUDYSMEMUM (2)

Race 5

A couple of very smart beginners in ALBERIO (2) and SMOOTH DEAL (3), so whoever leads will obviously take beating. NO NUKES SKIPPER (4) and JILLIBY JAY SEA (5) have been hit and miss from the tapes, but a safe beginning and good run in transit will give them their chance. LOYOLA TRIOS (8) is going well but again will rely on luck to come his way, something he doesn’t get very often, whilst TWLIGHT BEACH (9) is the other off 10m, but has begun very fast in recent stand starts when off the back marks. Cant see others in field winning but could run into the top 4, with RANIERI (6) the best of those from expected soft pegs run.

Selections SMOOTH DEAL (3), ALBERIO (2), LOYOLA TRIOS (8), NO NUKES SKIPPER (4)

Staking Strategy:  Its becoming a common thing with these 2, but both ALBERIO (2) & SMOOTH DEAL (3) should sit first 2 on the pegs, so happy to be on both. 1 unit win – ALBERIO (2) & SMOOTH DEAL (3)

Race 6

HOWSWEETTHESOUND (2) was held up after handing up the front last start, but I see him crossing the stablemate and being almighty hard to beat from the front if he repeats his 23m win last time at this track. FIVEFORTY (1) has misbehaved and only been fair for the new stable at the trials, however gets every hope from the draw, with the market worth watching regarding his chances. TASSIE DAZZLER (3) is racing well and will sit on speed which suits, whilst YURUGA LASS (4) ran an improved race last start and might give the (3) some cover. ROYAL CADENCE (5) is racing well but will need some luck and tempo to be winning, whilst there’s not a whole lot of form to go off from the back row, but HORRIE OTARA (6) will get a soft pegs run and may be in the finish if gaps appear.

Selections  HOWSWEETTHESOUND (2), TASSIE DAZZLER (3), YURUGA LASS (4), FIVEFORTY (1)

Staking Strategy:  HOWSWEETTHESOUND (2) at his best brings the best form to this race,, but interesting Dylan Ford is driving the stablemate, which ill have a saver on. 3 unit win – HOWSWEETTHESOUND (2), 1 unit win - FIVEFORTY (1)
