Race 1:

OVERVIEW: FOXY TWO GLOVES (1) is a genuine front running mare and is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern. She boasts a strong record at Mildura and has been runner up at her past two attempts after adopting her favourite role. MERRYWOOD PAUL (9) is the obvious threat but he also performs best when he is able to lead and is awkwardly drawn on the second line. If he can repeat his performance from the Cobram Cup, where he kept on running from start to finish over the distance of 2678m, he will prove extremely hard to beat. MODERN GINGER (10) has been competing against the genuine open class at Mildura and will find this race to be slightly easier. He was placed in a super mile rate of 1.54.9 at Mildura on December 26. LEWIELEWIS (2) will find this race to be a steeper challenge compared to his recent strong performances but he continues to improve with the benefit of racing.

BACK: FOXY TWO GLOVES (1) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: FOXY TWO GLOVES (1), MERRYWOOD PAUL (9), MODERN GINGER (10), LEWIELEWIS (2)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: SHES MAGICAL (10) was able to break through for her Maiden success when she led throughout and completely dominated her rivals on December 26. This race is no harder and she is capable of overcoming the extreme draw. HES A MODERN BOY (2) is a fast beginner that led out then took cover when second behind DIAMOND KRUSHER (6) last outing. He is drawn to obtain a similar trip here so he cannot be left out of calculations. BEARTASTIC WRITER (3) has been placed at his past two attempts in similar grade. He performs best when he is able to lead and is likely to find his favourite role again so he warrants consideration. GRENADE (4) and DIAMOND KRUSHER (6) are both worth thought in an open race.

SELECTIONS: SHES MAGICAL (10), HES A MODERN BOY (2), BEARTASTIC WRITER (3), DIAMOND KRUSHER (6)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: BRAVE ART (8) won at her only start at Mildura previously and is racing in great form having been placed at her past four attempts. She scored comfortably at Wedderburn last outing and looms as a strong winning chance again. SWEET ARPEGGIO (4) is a South Australian trained pacer, which is shooting for three straight victories. She scored in a slick mile rate of 1.56.8 at Gawler two starts ago so she should go close. THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (9) worked hard early, gained a trail mid-race and finished off best to win nicely at Charlton last outing. She meets a field of similar quality and is worth thought again. DAYSIE BROWN (2) and RONZEL MICKY (6) are both minor place hopes.

SELECTIONS: BRAVE ART (8), SWEET ARPEGGIO (4), THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (9), DAYSIE BROWN (2)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: ROYAL SAXON (3) has been impressive at his past two victories and is a strong chance of completing a hat trick. He recorded a slick mile rate of 1.56.7 when he led throughout at Gawler two starts ago. ZAPPA (8) led out then took cover when third behind Torque Power in a strong race at Terang last outing. He appears to be well placed against this line up and was a winner in fast time at Bendigo on December 17 so he must be respected. WATCHTHECLOCK (1) is likely to end up trailing the leader from the pole position and was placed from the same spot two starts ago. OUR MASTER PLAY (6) is racing consistently against similar opposition and is worth a ticket each way.

BACK: ROYAL SAXON (3) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: ROYAL SAXON (3), ZAPPA (8), WATCHTHECLOCK (1), OUR MASTER PLAY (6)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: IM ALRIGHT JACK (3) was heavily backed and produced a dominant front running performance to win his heat of this series clearly. He will be looking for the lead again and will take catching if he can get across to the markers shortly after the start. HESASTAR (1) progressed forward to race without cover and battled on strongly for second behind ORATOR (2) last outing. He moves to the front line now and should run a big race. ORATOR (2) produced her best effort in Victoria when she trailed the leader and finished off best to win her heat. She is drawn to gain a trail just off the pace again so she cannot be discarded. KEAYANG CRIPPA (5) and ROBERT CROCKA (6) are both worth thought in multiple combinations.

SELECTIONS: IM ALRIGHT JACK (3), HESASTAR (1), ORATOR (2), ROBERT CROCKA (6)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (1) pushed forward to find the lead, ran along at a genuine tempo and won the Summer Cup in fast time last outing. He is ideally drawn and will take catching. HOT DEAL (7) has the outstanding record of ten wins from twenty starts on the Mildura circuit and is the class runner of the field. He endured a tough run, hit the front on the home turn and was gunned down right on the line at his latest second in fast time. JAXON BEACH (8) ran his best race for some time when a close third behind Maxy Wants To Play last outing. A repeat performance will see him being competitive again. NOBLE TRICK (2) has performed well at the trials leading up to his first up run and SANTA CASA BEACH (5) will appreciate his first front line draw for some time.

BACK: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (1), HOT DEAL (7), JAXON BEACH (8), SANTA CASA BEACH (5)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: THE NAKED ART (2) is a fast beginner and is racing in peak form so he should take tossing from his good draw. He recorded a slick mile rate of 1.56.8 at his latest Terang victory. FLAME BLASTER (1) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and is a good chance of ending up being behind the leader so he rates as a value hope. ALWAYS ON SAFARI (6) is a tough type and has been placed at his past six attempts. He raced without cover when he scored at Gawler then finished off well from the second half of the field when second behind the in-form pacer Lilstrepo last outing. THEBUCKSONYOU (3) and HOOKLINEANDSINKER (5) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.

BACK: FLAME BLASTER (1) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: THE NAKED ART (2), FLAME BLASTER (1), ALWAYS ON SAFARI (6), THEBUCKSONYOU (3)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: RED ROBBER (4) was heavily supported at his debut for trainer Alex Ashwood and had his chance but only missed out by a narrow margin at his Mildura debut. This race is no harder so he is capable of going one better. STAY CLEAN (7) raced fiercely in the leading role and faded out when ninth at Charlton on debut. She is nicely bred and finished third in a strong trial at Bendigo recently so she can feature prominently here. THE NINJA (2) attempted to lead throughout when third behind Colman Sign last outing. This is a race of similar standard and he should give another forward showing. ITSALLGEE (5) strikes a suitable assignment at her Mildura debut and is a possible improver.

BACK: RED ROBBER (4) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: RED ROBBER (4), STAY CLEAN (7), THE NINJA (2), ITSALLGEE (5)
