RACE 1 – AUSTRALIAN HOTEL PACE – 1720 metres

The start of this event was amended to 6.13pm at the request of SKY Racing.

KEEP PLAYING– Pre-race blood sample.  Broke clear of interference passing the 1500 metres resulting in COMPLICATED which was following being inconvenienced.  A warning was placed on the record of KEEP PLAYING.

NONE GRATER– Broke during the score up.  In view of the gelding’s recent record it will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.

JACKS LAST HOO RAA– Post-race swab sample.

MASTABLASTA– Pre-race blood sample.

COMPLICATED– Inconvenienced passing the 1500 metres when KEEP PLAYING broke gait.

DEANOTHEDINOSAUR– Out of position at the start and a warning was issued. 

DEE TERROR– Paced roughly during the latter stages of the score up and was out of position as a result.  A warning was placed on the record of DEE TERROR.

 

RACE 2 – YOUNG OAKS 12TH APRIL PACE – 1720 metres

ROAD TO RECOVERY– Pre-race blood sample.

ALABAMA MISS– Post-race swab sample. 

SEEMESHINEYHEELS– Pre-race blood sample. 

ERIC THE KICKER– Trainer Grant Jones was fined $50 under Rule 210 for failing to declare James Locke as the driver of the gelding by the required time.

IDEAL TAO– Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued.

 

RACE 3 – SWSCU PACE – 2100 metres

MODERN SHEEN– Checked passing the 500 metres when MILLWOOD GRACE NZ commenced to give ground.

BUDDY BRILLIANCE– Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued.  Slow to begin.  Post-race swab sample.

MILLWOOD GRACE NZ– Driver James Locke was questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in tenth and last placing beaten 79 metres.  Mr Locke explained that in his view the mare failed to handle the longer distance of tonight’s event (2100 metres) and added that connections had advised it would be their intention moving forward to restrict the future racing of MILLWOOD GRACE NZ to the shorter distance races of 1700 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination of MILLWOOD GRACE NZ failed to reveal any significant findings.  Given the beaten margin (79 metres) a warning was issued.

INGERMARLA– Pre-race blood sample.  Out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued.  Tired over concluding stages to be beaten 77 metres.  A warning was issued.

 

RACE 4 – ARMA INSURANCE BROKERS PACE – 2100 metres

IDEAL DENNY– Pre-race blood sample.

MY ULTIMATE HARRY– Shifted out under pressure inside the final 150 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

 

RACE 5 – CORDINA RACING – EUREKA PACE – 1720 metres

ALWAYSBMYPONY– Trainer Steve Turnbull was fined $50 under Rule 210 for failing to declare Peter McRae as the driver of the gelding by the required time.

THE KAPITI EXPRESS NZ– Trainer Nathan Turnbull was fined $50 under Rule 268A(1) for failing to lodge a gear form by the required time.

EAGLE COMMANDER– Post-race swab sample.

JEKAMIAS NZ– Pre-race blood sample.

CHANGE OF MIND– Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races and attained the age of 12 years.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings. 

PETES BIG JIM– Held up rounding the home turn in the early part of the straight.  Blundered shortly after passing the finish.  A post-race veterinary examination of PETES BIG JIM failed to reveal any significant findings.

ESCALERA NZ– Driver Jackson Painting was questioned regarding the driving tactics adopted on the gelding.  Mr Painting explained that when positioned three wide ESCALERA NZ failed to quicken as expected and had difficulty in obtaining an advantage on JEKAMIAS NZ which was occupying the position outside the leader. Mr Painting added upon passing the 1000 metres after gaining a slight advantage on that runner ESCALERA NZ commenced to hang in and as a consequence ESCALERA NZ was caught three wide for the remainder of the event.  Upon consideration of the previous racing pattern of ESCALERA NZ, in combination with the tactics adopted this evening, Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted were entirely unreasonable and took the matter no further.  ESCALERA NZ was claimed out of this event by Mr Scott Whitton.  Post-race swab sample.

 

RACE 6 – TURNERS FURNITURE ONE PACE – 2100 metres

BULLI BELLE– Pre-race blood sample.  Checked passing the 600 metres when held up behind RIWAKA ROCK which commenced to tire.  Trainer/driver Michael Day Jnr explained after making use of BULLI BELLE during the early stages when unsuccessfully challenging for the lead he did not feel it was in the mare’s best interest to then direct BULLI BELLE three wide without cover passing the 600 metres.  Mr Day added that in maintaining the position behind RIWAKA ROCK at that stage it did not appear that gelding was under significant pressure, however shortly after NIXSUN improving to his outside RIWAKA ROCK commenced to give ground rapidly which resulted in BULLI BELLE being checked however Mr Day added that given the early use of BULLI BELLE the mare finished the race off in a relatively moderate manner.  Upon consideration of the available evidence Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted in the circumstances were entirely unreasonable, noting the early use made of BULLI BELLE and took the matter no further.

ORANGE FEVER– Inconvenienced shortly after the start when RIWAKA ROCK shifted in.

RIWAKA ROCK– Shifted in shortly after the start inconveniencing ORANGE FEVER.  Trainer/driver Darryl Davis was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in tenth placing beaten 88 metres.  Mr Davis explained that RIWAKA ROCK commenced to wind suck during the middle stages which he felt was largely contributable to the gelding’s poor performance.  A post-race veterinary examination of RIWAKA ROCK failed to reveal any significant findings.  In view of the circumstances a warning was placed on the record of RIWAKA ROCK.

POPPY WAH WAH– Post-race swab sample.

NIXSUN– Pre-race blood sample. 

JUSTADIVA– Sustained a flat tyre shortly after the start when ROBUST EASTON NZ made contact with its outside sulky wheel.

ROBUST EASTON NZ– Pre-race blood sample.  Inconvenienced shortly after the start when ORANGE FEVER which was positioned ahead was inconvenienced and lost ground resulting in ROBUST EASTON NZ shifting in and inadvertently making contact with the outside sulky wheel of JUSTADIVA resulting in that runner sustaining a flat tyre.

 

RACE 7 – TRIMECH PACE – 1720 metres

NOTTADOUBT– Held up during the final 150 metres.

HARLEY JAMES– Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having attained the age of 12 years.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

GIRL JUST FLY– Post-race swab sample.

POM PAY– Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the mare having started in more than 200 races.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

SIR JUJON– Trainer/driver Nathan Turnbull was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in ninth and second last placing beaten 25 metres ($4.40).  Mr Turnbull advised that in his view SIR JUJON performed somewhat disappointing at its most recent start at Tamworth on 17 March 2024 where the gelding was beaten after being able to lead.  Mr Turnbull added that SIR JUJON in his opinion was not suited to being positioned outside the leader in this evening’s event.  A post-race veterinary examination of SIR JUJON failed to reveal any significant findings.

TORQUE NO FEAR– Pre-race blood sample. 

BURRABADINE DANCER– Out of position at the start and a warning was issued.

JOHN RICHARD– Out of position at the start and a warning was issued.  In not taking more severe action against the gelding Stewards were mindful that six months had lapsed since the gelding had offended in a similar manner.

 

RACE 8 – TAB VENUE MODE 3YO PACE – 1720 metres

MACH NINE– Post-race swab sample.

AMERICAN BOULEVARD– Pre-race blood sample.  Driver Michael Hardy was fined $200 under rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion inside the final 200 metres.

THINK CHRISTI– Out of position at the start.  In view of the filly’s recent record THINK CHRISTI will now be placed on its last chance in the draw.  Hung in passing the 1000 metres and made contact with the sulky of AMERICAN BOULEVARD.  A warning was placed on the record of THINK CHRISTI.

PIRATES MAGIC– Paced roughly momentarily passing the 1300 metres.
