RACE 1 – TERANG CO-OP SUPA IGA PACE (1680 MS)

EL AWOMAN- with stood a challenge for the lead into the first turn. Tired from the back straight to be beaten 51 metres. Driver Michael Bellman explained that he had resisted the challenge of FOREGONE CONCLUSION into the first turn and the mare had then been very disappointing in the way she finished the race off. A post race veterinary check indicated lameness in the off hindleg, which required treatment on course. EL AWOMAN was stood down from racing for a period of 7 days and pending a veterinary clearance to race. Due to the veterinary findings no action was taken regarding the sectional times recorded.

FOREGONE CONCLUSION- pulled hard when racing outside the leader.

RACE 2 – GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL TROTTERS HANDICAP (2180 SS)

MAJESTIC CONNIES- trainer Tyrone Abela was cautioned for failing to notify the intended tactics of his multiple runners.  The gelding hung in  around the home turn and  then broke upon entering the home straight.

NIGHT WHISPERER- held up around the home turn and was then inconvenienced by the galloping MAJESTIC CONNIES and broke as a result.

BROWN EYED KATE- tired to be beaten 84 metres. A post race veterinary check revealed no abnormalities. Connections reported that the maremay not have backed up after racing at Mt Gambier on 16/3. Given the beaten margin the mare was placed on her last chance to race competitively.

MY MATE YANKEE- underwent pre and post race veterinary checks due to not having raced since 1/11/2021- no abnormalities were evident.

RACE 3 MT NOORAT FREIGHTERS MAIDEN TROT (2180 MS)

RACE 4 – TERANG CO-OP MITRE 10   PACE (1680 MS)

ROCKINTHECITY- Jackie Barker was not listed in the racebook as the driver of the horse.

NOTNEGOTIABLE- driver Jason lee was cautioned for failing to have his drive in position at the candy pole.

No action was taken regarding the sectional times recorded due to the restricted stakemoney status of the race.

RACE 5 – GREAVESYS FRUIT & VEG TERANG PACE (2180 MS)

HEY GOYOUGOODTHING NZ- Chris Alford was  not listed in the racebook as the driver of the gelding.

QUIET STORM- driver Jason Lee was fined $100 pursuant to AHRR 162(1)(y) for failing to comply with minimum sectional time requirements.

Driver Leilani Justice was fined $100 pursuant to AHRR 156(3) for using her whip with more than the permitted number of uses over the final 200 metres.

RACE 6 – SUNGOLD MILK TROT (2180 MS)

BOUTIKA- contacted marker pegs around the home turn.

KYVALLEY SURFRIDER- broke when being angled wider on the home turn- warning issued.

HES THEMIGHTYSPIN- unsuccessfully contested for the lead and then raced in close proximity to the leader until crossed by BUSLIN BRODY after the bell. Stewards will inquire into the driving tactics of driver Patrick Tomkinson, with the Inquiry scheduled for Melton on 23/3/24.

CHINSKI- pulled hard in the score- up. Trotted roughly under pressure nearing the finish.

BUSLIN BRODY- worked around the field three wide from the 1400 metres, then crossed to the one out line near the 900 metres and continued to pressure the leader SONARMI JOE from that point until beginning to give ground near the 450 metres. Stewards inquired into the driving tactics adopted by driver Ben Xiriha. Mr Xiriha explained that the gelding had put a string of wins together late in 2023 when driven in a similar manner, and that when he applied pressure during the third quarter the tempo had moderated to a 31.1 sectional, adding that the gelding is very one paced. Mr Xiriha added that the gelding had lost his near hind shoe during the run and had pulled up with the half hopple pulley having been displaced, which had caused the half hopples be tighter than normal, Stewards verified this as the gelding exited the track immediately after the race. A post race veterinary check indicated a high heart rate. Stewards, whilst holding concerns over Mr Xirihas’s driving tactics, could not, bearing in mind the various factors which had the capacity to affect the geldings performance, be satisfied that Mr Xiriha’s tactics were culpable under the circumstances.

RACE 7 – TERANG CO-OP RURAL STORE PACE (2180 MS)

WICHITA KANSAS- held up for clear running in the home straight.

GEMAEDDE- tightened racing past the winning post the first time, then worked forward three wide. Gave ground over the concluding stages. Trainer/driver Aaron Dunn advised that the filly had come to the end of her preparation and would now be spelled.

HER MADGEJESTY- shifted abruptly wider into the first turn when driver Georgia Hayward steered away to relieve pressure on runners to her immediate inside. Tired to be beaten 71 metres and a warning was issued.

TOPSIES BLING- inconvenienced racing into the first turn.

DOUGS FLAME- hung out racing into the first turn when racing on the pegline. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
