Connections were advised that following required satisfactory performance SULTAN FELLA would now be eligible to take its place in the mobile barrier draw.

FOUR FEATHERS– Pulled hard during the early stages.

SHADY JESS– Broke stride free of any external factors passing the 700 metres and galloped. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on the mares racing record.

JILLIBY CHAMBERS– Broke stride and galloped during the score up and was out of position at the start. Connections were advised the mare would continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Took charge of its driver in the early stages, ran wide on the track and was unable to be restrained. Weakened noticeably inside the 800 metres and tailed the field. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised that prior to racing again JILLIBY CHAMBERS must perform tractably in an official qualifying trial.

RACE 5 – TAMWORTH TROPHEY SUPPLIES PACE – 1980 metres

BUDDY PERFECT– Pre-race blood sample.

IMPERIAL SNAPPER– Raced roughly for a short distance during the score up. Taking into account all the circumstances, Trainer/Driver Miss S Rushbrook was advised the provision of last chance in the mobile draw would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.

RACE 6 – PERC VERNING MEMORIAL – 16009 metres

ROCK AROUND– Weakened over the concluding stages and could not go forward despite the efforts of its driver. Trainer Mr L Simon stated the mare would be spelled. Acting on this advice no action was taken. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

TARIFA GIRL– Driver L Whittaker’s left foot came away from the sulky rest marginally near the 250 metres when he was momentarily unbalanced in the seat.

SAFE JEWELS– When questioned in relation to the performance Driver Mr T Ison explained that after being driven with vigour from its wide barrier in the early stages, he was unsuccessful in his attempt to establish the lead which resulted in SAFE JEWELS racing without cover. He said during the middle stages the mare was unsuited by this, pulled very hard and refused to settle. He said that when placed under pressure inside the 400 metres after gaining an initial response SAFE JEWELS weakened and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner. Mr Ison said he intended to experiment with a gear change during the mare’s track work in an attempt to have it race more tractably leading into its next start. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

COBLA ROYALE– Post-race swab sample.

PRINCESS REMI– Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 7 – HAZELLS LOCAL TRAINERS AWARD PACE – 1980 metres

A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr T Ison was advised that prior to racing again KARALTA COURAGE must perform competitively in an official qualifying trial.

SEAMARK NZ– Broke stride free of any external factors rounding the turn after the start and galloped for some distance. Trainer/Driver Mr T Ison was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing record. Pulled very hard during the middle stages and would not settle. Subsequently Trainer/Driver Mr T Ison stated because of the continual over racing he felt the gelding had choked down passing the 1000 metres and restrained it from that point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr T Ison was advised that prior to racing again SEAMARK NZ must perform satisfactorily in two official qualifying trials and further, a stand down period of 14 days would be applied.

BOOKER BAY– Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 8 – MULTIQUIP COMMERCIAL HATCHERY PACE – 1609 metres

RIPPIN GOOD FEELIN– Post-race swab sample.

BRAVE BONDI– When questioned in relation to the performance Trainer/Driver Mr B James stated that despite racing with cover in the one out one back position during the middle stages, the horse failed to travel comfortably at any stage and its performance was disappointing without being able to pinpoint any particular reason for it. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr James advised he would now freshen BRAVE BONDI with the horse not racing for at least one month.

DOLLARSIGN– Pre-race blood sample.

YOU CANNOT HIDE– When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, Driver A Varga explained that the gelding pulled hard during the score up and was difficult to restrain. He said that after obtaining the position at the rear of the field in the early stages YOU CANNOT HIDE again began to pull hard and passing the 1200 metres when he could not restrain the gelding any further, he shifted it wider and allowed it to improve around the field in an attempt to establish a position outside the lead. He said that passing the winning post with a lap remaining he was unable to muster sufficient speed to join the running line and was trapped wide from that point and then when placed under pressure inside the 500 metres YOU CANNOT HIDE responded initially, however began to weaken from the 300 metres and ran to the finish moderately. Mr Varga attributed this to the gelding’s tendency to over race during the early and middle stages.

RACE 9 – ANZAC DAY – 25TH APRIL PACE – 1980 metres

CLASSICMAJOR– Pulled hard during the middle stages.

JAYJAYBENNY– Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
