Stewards Report

Port Pirie – Sunday 7 April 2024

The sprint lane was in operation at tonights event.

Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided Stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1 – ALEX’S MEAT PACE -  1609MS

A false start was called when the grips on the offside rein of CELESTIAL DAYBREAK (C Johnson) snapped. Gear was inspected and found to be of good quality.

Stewards questioned driver Michael Smith (CELESTIAL ZODIAC) as to why he had persisted in holding out the challenge of JILLIBY MISTRESS (R Hryhorec) until it crossed in the front straight.  Driver Michael Smith (CELESTIAL ZODIAC) stated that his drive is best suited when leading. Further he was of the opinion that Ryan Hryhorec was not going to cross him. Smith was advised that his comments would be noted. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

When questioned Ryan Hryhorec (JILLIBY MISTRESS) stated that he had always felt his drive would cross CELESTIAL ZODIAC however it had held him out longer than what he had anticipated. Comments were noted.

CELESTIAL DAYBREAK (C Johnson) hung inwards home turn final occasion and inconvenienced MISS ARTEMIS (W Hill).

RACE 2 – SPEN FULLER MEMORIAL  – 2050MS

Pre-race veterinary examination JAKES SPORTWRITER as it.raced Globe Derby Park 6th April 2024. Passed fit to race.

All clear was delayed allowing Declan Whelan (CHARMING MAJOR) placed second to view video of the back straight final occasion. After viewing the videos the all clear was given.

Reinsperson Ken Rogers (BUDDING CAESAR) was cautioned for when easing outwards near the 450 metres tightening the ground of CHARMING MAJOR (D Whelan).

Reinsperson Declan Whelan was advised to modify his whip action and use in a flicking motion only.

RACE 3 – MIDSTATE HARDWARE PACE – 1609MS

QUICK DIP (R Hryhorec) contacted the near side sulky wheel of BOHEMIAN BRAIDS (B Page) turn off the back straight first occasion and galloped for a short distance.

It was established the leader was racing off the marker pegs and QUICK DIP (R Hryhorec) which commenced to come around it was then in restricted room as BOHEMIAN BRAIDS (B Page) was racing tight to its outside. Stewards did not consider any one driver to be at fault and took no further action.

RACE 4 – 2024 SPENCER MOTORS SA BOTRA 2YO KINDERGARTEN SERIES (HEAT 2) – 1609MS

CALL ME HAZEL (K Rogers) raced roughly shortly after the start.

OIL THE FRISBEE (L Ryan) raced greenly on the home turn final occasion and inconvenienced CALL ME HAZEL.

RACE 5 – AITCHISON EARTHMOVING PACE – 1609MS

LIEUTENANT JACK (W Hill) hung inwards approaching the winning post and inconvenienced TASHS MATE (K Rogers).

TASHS MATE cast near fore shoe in running.

RACE 6  – PORT PIRIE CUPS NIGHT APRIL 13 PACERS HANDICAP – 2050SS

ALAKAZAM (R Hryhorec) galloped from the barrier and a warning was issued.

Reinsperson Wayne Hill (ASSASSINATOR) was fined $100 under R162(1)(y) for whilst leading the first half of the last mile setting a time 64.8 seconds which is outside the prescribed time of 64 seconds.

RACE 7 – S & N EARTHMOVING PACE – 2050MS

Reins person Corey Johnson (TAYLAHS ACE) was cautioned for tightening the ground of ROLL WITH MUSTARD (M Smith) on the turn out of the front straight first occasion.

ROLL WITH MUSTARD hung inwards on the home turn final occasion and dislodged a marker peg. Warning issued.

RACE 8 – VALE JIM TUCKER PACE – 1609MS

BEAUTY ABOVE (K Rogers) hung inwards and contacted marker pegs on the home turn final occasion. Warning issued.
