STEWARDS REPORT FOR MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

 

RACE 1 – TAB WE'RE ON MAIDEN TROT (2240 MS)

General

The all clear was withheld to enable Stewards to view the footage in relation to IN REDWHITEANDBLUE (5TH place) galloping over the concluding stages. After establishing that whilst IN REDWHITEANDBLUE had galloped over the final 200m however when considering that the gelding had gradually lost ground when restrained, and the relative margins to trailing horses, Stewards could not be satisfied that IN REDWHITEANDBLUE had gained an advantage to the detriment of trailing horses, and therefore all clear was declared on the Judges’ placings.

IN REDWHITEANDBLUE– galloped clear of interference in the home straight and a warning was issued against the racing manners of the gelding.

AETHON– tired (62m) over the concluding stages and a warning was issued against the performance.

NEY DEAN– gave ground after having raced in the position outside of the leader.

COLUMBIAS GONZALES– galloped shortly after the start, trailed the field throughout and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

MYAMCO– the racebook failed to show Jack Laugher as the driver replacement for Ellen Tormey (unavailable). Pulled hard during the middle stages.

ADJURE– galloped clear of interference in the home straight.

KEAYANG GUCCI– the racebook failed to show Glen Craven as the driver of the mare. Trainer Paddy Lee was cautioned for the late driver notification. Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed right outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 2 – PRYDES EASIFEED TROT (1720 MS)

NELLIE JOY– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

ONESTEP AHEAD– trotted roughly after the start and was placed on its last chance in the barrier draw.

ATM ACCOUNT– began badly and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

KISSMESERENA NZ– showed gate speed from barrier 7 to lead before relinquishing the lead during the middle stages. Gave ground over the final stages to be beaten approximately 42m into 8th position. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of the mare revealed grade 3 EIPH. In accordance with HRV policy, KISSMESERENA NZ was stood down from racing for 28 days, until a veterinary clearance has been provided and the mare has trialled satisfactorily on one (1) occasion.

KEAYANG ZAHARA– out of position at the start and a warning was issued. Stewards took into accounta the manners of other horses (COUNTESS CHIRON and IKIGAI) when positioned to the outside of KEAYANG ZAHARA through the score up.

COUNTESS CHIRON– broke gait in the score up and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

IKIGAI– hung in during the score up, broke gait after the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 3 – SULKY.APP FUTURE OF FORM 2YO PACE (1720 MS)

SPLASH OF PAYNT – trainer Peter Manning was cautioned for failing to notify the intended driving tactics with multiple horses engaged (TORQUE POWER).

OZZIE GEM– tired (54m) over the concluding stages however in view of the winning margin no action was taken against the performance.

SCHERGER THAT– having its first race start. Showed gate speed and hung out rounding the first turn when working forward before again hanging out near the 900m. Tired (53m) over the concluding stages however in view of the winning margin no action was taken against the performance. Driver James Herbertson explained that the colt raced too keenly which contributed to the performance. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of the colt revealed no apparent abnormalities.

BOLT OF COBARGO– trainer Rita Burnett was fined $50 under rule 238 for failing to comply with a requirement to notify the intended driving tactics to be adopted with multiple horses engaged (GRIMSHAW BAY).

GRIMSHAW BAY– driver Rita Burnett was cautioned for failing to have the filly in position at the start.

ATTAGIRL - the racebook failed to show Connor Clarke as the driver of the filly. Training partnership C & T Jamieson were cautioned for the late driver notification.

HURRICANE HOOLY– tired (50m) over the concluding stages however in view of the winning margin no action was taken against the performance.

 

RACE 4 – NEVELE R STUD PACE (1720 MS)

BEATBOXER– held up for a clear run in the home straight.

BLISSFULL LILLY– driver Chris Romanidis was reminded of whip action requirements.

SUE NIEN– the racebook failed to show Ewa Justice as the driver of the filly. Held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

CASTLE SINCLAIR– hung out and paced roughly approaching the 200m.

 

RACE 5 – CATANACH'S JEWELLERS 3YO PACE (1720 MS)

SAMMY SUFFARELL– slow to begin from barrier 1.

REMI LOU– tired (59m) over the concluding stages and a warning was issued against the performance.

COCOSDREAM– driver Sean O’Sullivan was cautioned for failing to have his drive in position at the start. Hung in rounding the final turn.

JILLIBY ILLUMINATE NZ– driver Jason Lee was fined $100 under rule 162(1)(h) for failing to maintain his position at the start.

 

RACE 6 – 2CONSTRUCT TROT (1720 MS)

CHINSKI NZ– began badly and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

PERFIDIOUS SUE– out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 7 – HIP POCKET WORKWEAR CASTLEMAINE PACE (1720 MS)

SWEET AGENDA– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

ISTHISJUSTFANTASY– which had not started in a race since February 2023, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Hung in rounding the final turn and at the entrance to the home straight.

SASSYOLA– due to the mare having competed in more than 200 races, was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

 

RACE 8 – AUSTRALIAN PACING GOLD PACE (1720 MS)

CALYPSO MISTRESS– the racebook failed to show Jason Lee as the driver of the mare. Held up for a clear run until the sprint lane became available.

OUR KINKY BOOTS– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

 

RACE 9 – ALLIED EXPRESS PACE (1720 MS)

CEE CEE NORMAN– pulled hard during the middle stages. Checked racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

CHIEF JUJON– pulled very hard when positioned outside of the leader and gave ground quickly down the back straight on the final occasion. Post-race veterinary and endoscopic examination of the gelding revealed CHIEF JUJON to be exhibiting grade 3 EIPH. In accordance with HRV policy, the gelding was stood down from racing for 28 days, until a veterinary clearance has been provided and the gelding has trialled satisfactorily on one (1) occasion.

THE ROAN RANGER– inconvenienced racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

EYECON NZ- inconvenienced racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

CINQUANTA– the racebook failed to show Zac Phillips as the driver of the mare. Trainer Rob O’Connell was cautioned for the late driver notification. Held up and unable to obtain a clear run in the home straight.
