STEWARDS REPORT FOR MARYBOROUGH

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.

 

 

RACE 1 – CARISBROOK MOTORS 2YO PACE (1690 MS)

General

The revised start time for this race was 1:17pm.

SPEEDY HEALEY– hung out racing down the back straight on the final occasion and gave ground. Post-race veterinary examination of the colt revealed no apparent abnormalities. A warning was issued against the racing manners.

ATEGO BARBARAJOAN– tired (52m) over the final stages and a warning was issued against the performance.

GOLDEN TRIBE– trainer Tom Rundle was cautioned for the gelding being presented late into the parade ring. Galloped clear of interference during the score up, was out of position at the start and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Galloped clear of interference near the 500m and paced roughly in the home straight. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

ARCHIE MOTH– hung in rounding the final turn approaching the 200m.

 

RACE 2 – MARYBOROUGH GOLF CLUB TROT (2190 MS)

HIDDEN FIRE– due to the mare not having started in a race since September 2022 was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SOUTHBOUND RED– tired (73m) after having been positioned outside of the leader. Considering the recent record of the gelding, was stood down from racing until the satisfactory completion of one (1) trial.

XIAOBO– began badly and will be excluded from the mobile barrier draw in future race starts.

SHADOW JUSTICE– out of position at the start and will continue to be placed right outside the mobile barrier draw. Hung out racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

 

RACE 3 – BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS MAIDEN TROT (2190 MS)

JOEY BEE – gave ground over the concluding stages.

MAJESTIC ACT– slow to begin from barrier 2 and then galloped clear of interference shortly after the start. Will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

SINGARA TED– inconvenienced shortly after the start. Hung in and contacted marker pegs approaching the 1200m.

WITH APLOMB– hung in during the score up, was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

IM LADY RHONDA– out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

KYVALLEY MARIACHI– galloped on two occasions during the score up, was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 4 – BARTLETTS MANAFACTURING PACE (2190 MS)

ASHARAH – pulled hard during the middle stages. Inconvenienced racing off the back straight on the final occasion when unable to improve.

STELLAR QUEEN- inconvenienced racing off the back straight on the final occasion when unable to improve. Made incidental contact with the offside sulky wheel of MAGNIFIED rounding the final turn as that runner tired noticeably. No action was taken in view of the circumstances.

MAGNIFIED– pulled hard whilst leading through the middle stages. Tired (97m) over the concluding stages and was inclined to hang in and contact marker pegs. Sulky contacted rounding the final turn when tiring. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Connections were disappointed with the performance and will reevaluate the gelding’s immediate racing future. Placed on its last chance to race competitively.

EAGLES AND INDIANS – headcheck clip came undone during the event.

SHOOBEE GOTCHA– outside sulky wheel contacted shortly after the start however had no tangible affect.

MIRADERO– driver Nick Youngson was cautioned for careless driving in allowing his drive to contact the sulky of SHOOBEE GOTCHA shortly after the start. Tired (73m) over the latter stages and has now been stood down from racing until the satisfactory completion of one (1) trial.

 

RACE 5 – ROTHACKER STOCKFEEDS PACE (2190 MS)

SETTEBELLO– inconvenienced approaching the 400m when unable to improve.

DANCE AFFAIR– showed gate speed and over-raced slightly before relinquishing the lead. Tired (98m) noticeably over the concluding stages and inclined to hang in and contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Driver Jodi Quinlan and connections were at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of the gelding, considering DANCE AFFAIR had trialled and worked well leading into the event. Ms Quinlan added that the gelding did not feel comfortable in the run, when inclined to pace roughly and hang. Placed on its last chance to race competitively. Stewards intend to follow up this performance with connections in the ensuing period.

CLARENDEN SCOOTER– driver David Murphy was approved as a late driver replacement for Jordan Leedham (suspended). Tired (52m) over the concluding stages however in view of the margins in the placings (3 ½ x 26m) no action was taken for the performance.

FRED NED– driver Ellen Tormey failed to appear in the racebook as the driver. Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 1200m.

 

RACE 6 – PETER EGAN BI-RITE ELECTRICAL TROT (1690 MS)

PERFECT PEAK– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn.

PRIMZ LUCK NZ– due to the gelding being 12 years of age was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

KYVALLEY PICASSO NZ– driver Chris Alford reminded of his whip action obligations.

KAPAI NZ– driver Shannon O’Sullivan was cautioned for failing to have the gelding in position at the start.

CLAUDYS SECRET– driver Ashley Manton was cautioned for failing to have the mare in position at the start. Trotted roughly in the home straight.

 

RACE 7 – VITAL SIGNS PACE (1690 MS)

MANHATTAN LASS – Michael Bellman was not listed in the racebook as the driver.

KYLOAN QUEEN– driver Brian Gath was found guilty of a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing or contributing to interference. The particulars of the charge being that approaching the first turn Mr Gath permitted KYLOAN QUEEN to shift in from a four wide position when insufficiently clear of WICHITA DANCE, resulting in that gelding being tightened for room checked inwards and contacting KEMPSEYS DELIGHT, resulting in driver Tina Ridis (WICHITA DANCE) becoming unbalanced in the sulky. In assessing penalty in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards took into account the low level of carelessness, consequential affects, Mr Gath’s driving frequency and relatively good prior record (April 2022 – approx. 150 drives). Mr Gath’s licence to drive in races was suspended for 2 weeks to commence midnight 21 March 2024.

MARY AUSTIN NZ– contacted marker pegs rounding the final turn, before being held up for a clear run prior to accessing the sprint lane.

KEMPSEYS DELIGHT- driver Ada Massa was approved as a late driver replacement for Jordan Leedham (suspended). Due to the gelding having competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Tightened for room and contacted the sulky of WICHITA DANCE entering the first turn.

WICHITA DANCE– tightened for room and checked out of its position entering the first turn. Driver Tina Ridis became unbalanced in the sulky entering the first turn when contact was made to the sulky of WICHITA DANCE.

 

RACE 8  – MCPHERSONS PRINTING GROUP PACE (1690 MS)

WINGATE GUY - driver David Murphy was approved as a late driver replacement for Jordan Leedham (suspended).

OUR FIRE AND DELIGHT NZ– galloped clear of interference after the start and will be placed outside the mobile barrier draw in future starts.

INTERPRETATION– held up for a clear run prior to accessing the sprint lane.

 

RACE 9  – ALDEBARAN PARK TROT (2190 MS)

AVANT GUARD– slow to begin from barrier 1.

ROMANTIC NINA– galloped clear of interference passing the 600m.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN– inconvenienced when unable to improve racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

LAIR OF THE EAGLE– trotted roughly down the back straight on the final occasion and again trotted roughly entering the home straight. Tired (88m) over the final stages and was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

ALDEBARAN MAVERICK– tired (92m) over the final stages and was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

ALWAYS SKYE HIGH– galloped clear of interference passing the 1200m, before pacing for a short distance and then trailing the field thereafter. Placed on its last chance to race truly.

 

RACE 10 – AB PAINT TROT (2190 MS)

SILVER SPOON– held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.

DYNAMIC DIESEL- driver Ellen Tormey failed to appear in the racebook as the driver.

EMILY MEAGAN– galloped during the score up, was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Trailed the field throughout.

ROLL WITH ROSCO– at the request of connections, will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

AZALEA MAE– shifted out rounding the final turn and had its inside sulky wheel contacted near the 400m. Tired (57m) over the concluding stages and in view of the circumstances was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

ARGYLE ROCKS– inconvenienced and contacted the inside sulky wheel of AZALEA MAE near the 400m, resulting in ARGYLE ROCKS momentarily trotting roughly. Driver Ashley Ainsworth was fined $200 under rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip with more than a wrist only flicking action in the early part of the home straight. Mr Ainsworth was also cautioned for his conduct when initially being excused from the Stewards inquiry.
