Dr Greg Hargreaves (Veterinarian)

Track: Good
Weather: Fine

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – ALDEBARAN PARK TROT (2190 MS)

MACHO MAORI - inconvenienced by EVERYBODYLUVSKENNY at approx 450m when that runner broke gait.

EVERYBODYLUVSKENNY – driver Damian Burns plead guilty to a charge under AHRR168(1)(a) which reads “a driver shall not before, during or after a race drive in a manner in which in the opinion of Stewards is careless” with the Stewards alleging that for an extended distance in the back straight on the final occasion, Mr Burns allowed his drive to race in a half-cart position in close proximity to the outside sulky wheel of PLAYA DEL CARMEN (Michelle Phillips) with EVERYBODYLUVSKENNY contacting that wheel and breaking gait as a result. In determining penalty, in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines Stewards considered Mr Burn’s driving frequency, driving record under this rule and the circumstances of the incident and issued a fine the sum of $200.

KYVALLEY PAINT NZ – late driver change; Tristan Larsen replaced Chris Alford (unavailable).

TUBS NOW SLIM – shifted outward and raced roughly at approx. 800m.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN – outside sulky wheel contacted by EVERYBODYLUVSKENNY approx. 300m; gave ground thereafter.

BLACKRANGE GLORY – driver Peter Sanderson was queried regarding the gelding’s overall effort and tractability throughout. Mr Sanderson explained that after attempting to restrain rearward through the early stages BLACKRANGE GLORY then commenced to race fiercely with Mr Sanderson then electing to allow the gelding to stride forward. Stewards verified Mr Sanderson's account and noted his comments. BLACKRANGE GLORY will now be placed on his last chance to race truly owing to tractability throughout. BLACKRANGE GLORY underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Mr Sanderson, on behalf of connections requested that the gelding continue to be excluded from future mobile barrier draws.

RACE 2 – AB PAINT 2YO PACE (1690 MS)

The start of this event was delayed by approx. three minutes with the Armidale gallops (race one) running behind time with this race then being transferred to SKY2.

SOHO PLAYGIRL – broke gait at approx. 225m; last chance to race truly.

WICKED MITZI – pulled hard in score-up, contacted the barrier arm then began badly; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Raced roughly at approx. 300m.

BEAR THE BIRD – checked shortly after the start by WICKED MITZI. Tired to be beaten 65.8m into tenth and last placing; warning issued.

MAD MONDAY – inconvenienced at approx. 350m when COURTNEY CHARLI shifted out slightly; broke gait as a result; no action taken given the circumstances.

MOONIE RIVER – broke git after the start; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.

HESITATE – hung out score-up, out of position when start effected; warning issued. Raced greenly throughout.

RACE 3 – MARYBOROUGH IGA PACE (1690 MS)

GIVE DAVE A WAVE – late scratching with Stewards’ permission at 10.35am.

MIDNITE DESIRE – pulled hard in running when positioned outside the leader.

SKADI – broke gait heading into the first turn; last chance to race truly.

BACKBEACH PETER – out of position when start effected; continued exclusion from future mobile barrier draws.

RACE 4 – BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS PACE (1690 MS)

ART ON FIRE NZ – checked at approx. 250m by MAJOR DRAMA when that runner broke gait.

WATCH IT HAPPEN – raced roughly heading into the first turn. Inconvenienced at approx. 250m when having to navigate wider around runners when MAJOR DRAMA broke gait.

IM TERRORTORIAL NZ – severely checked at approx. 250m when trailing MAJOR DRAMA when that runner broke gait. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

MAJOR DRAMA – Stewards refrained from acting against driver David Murphy for allowing the mare to run through the second quarter of the last mile in 33.4 seconds (1.4 seconds outside the requirement) when leading the event given that MAJOR DRAMA led the event clearly and unchallenged and Mr Murphy did make a tangible effort by turning his whip forward and attempting to quicken the pace. Broke gait at approx. 250m and checked several runners. Mr Murphy could offer no tangible reason as to why the mare broke gait. MAJOR DRAMA will now be placed on her last chance to race truly.

ITZ BULL SPEED AHEAD NZ – hung out and raced roughly at approx. 800m. Severely checked by MAJOR DRAMA at approx. 225m and did not complete the event. Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 5 – BARTLETTS MANUFACTURING PACE (2190 MS)

TIME TO TORQUE – broke gait in the score-up and caused a false start at the first attempt; exclusion from future mobile barrier draws. Slowly away at the second attempt.

STEEL RULER – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion.

GLENLINE – inconvenienced by KEAYANG FITZY at approx. 1200m when directed wider off the back of that runner to lead up the three-wide line. Commenced to race keenly thereafter when directed back down into the running line.

FRED NED – pulled hard from approx. 1300m and raced inside several marker pegs.

FEELINGOODFREDDIE – driver change; Michael Bellman replaced Jordan Leedham.

KEAYANG FITZY - driver Annalise Scott queried regarding her decision to return to the two-wide line entering the home straight with one lap to run when it appeared Ms Scott commenced a three-wide move momentarily and further if there was an opportunity to improve into the race in the three-wide line thereafter. Ms Scott explained that as the runner behind her drive (GLENLINE) had commenced to shift wider first, she was conscious of not moving underneath the latter and placing that runner wider on the track, so she directed KEAYANG FITZY back inward. Ms Scott then explained that as KEAYANG FITZY improved into the race over the final lap, the entire was pushed wider on the track as runners shifted ground ahead of her drive. Stewards noted Ms Scott's explanation.

RACE 6 – MCPHERSONS PRINTING GROUP PACE (2190 MS)

JAMES GARNER NZ – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion when positioned on the marker pegs. Gained clear running at approx. 150m.

SENNA STORM – pulled hard through early and middle stages.

TOORAM CEE CEE – late scratching at 12.48pm on veterinary advice.

RACE 7 – JOIN OUR LOCAL CARISBROOK LIONS CLUB 3YO PACE (1690 MS)

DANCIN WITH LUSH – held up and no clear run rounding home turn final occasion, contacting marker pegs before utilizing the sprint lane.

HAY MIKI – driver Tristan Larsen cautioned for not having the gelding in position when the start was effected. Mr Larsen plead guilty to a charge under AHRR166(1) which reads “Except in the final lap of a race a horse shall not enter any part of the sprint lane in an attempt to pass other horses or improve its position” with the particulars of the charge being that "after being directed or placed into the sprint lane to the inside of HESAA LISTER (Ellen Tormey) at approx. the 1200m Mr Larsen has then not taken sufficient measures in restraining HAY MIKI and returning to a position outside of the sprint lane and behind runners with HAY MIKI then improving to the inside of HESAA LISTER until the conclusion of the sprint lane at approx. the 950m where he was then able to rejoin the field". In determining penalty, Stewards considered Mr Larsen’s guilty plea, driving experience, the level of offending and the consequences of the incident; which were deemed to be in the low-range, prior penalty precedents, and suspended Mr Larsen’s license to drive for a period of ten (10) days. Mr Larsen was advised of his right of appeal.

SPIRIT OF PEARL – driver change; James Herbertson replaced Jordan Leedham.
