Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics. Following electrical storm activity detected within 10km of the course prior to Race 1, Stewards in compliance with RWWA’s Lightning Storm Policy, delayed the commencement of the meeting and the starting times for Races 1 to 10 were put back one race with Race 11 rescheduled to commence at 11pm.
RACE 1 – TROTSYND #WINNERSWIN PACE (2130MS)
STATE OF HEAVEN NZ (G Hall Jnr) – Raced roughly leaving the back straight on the first occasion.
GALAXY WARRIOR (R Warwick) – Obliged to race wide without cover over the final 800m and tired from the 400m to be beaten 47m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Lowings advised that it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
JOEY JAMES (D Roberts) – Trainer B Lynn was fined $50 under HR273(6)(b) for presenting the gelding with incorrect gear (Murphy Blind On).
RACE 2 – JP PACING PACE (2130MS)
GETN WIGGY WITHIT NZ (C Voak) – Tired from the 400m to be beaten 146m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Returned having cast its near-hind plate. Trainer Mr R Huston was advised that the gelding would be stood down from racing for 6 days and until such time as the completion of a satisfactory requalifying trial.
THREE RUMOURS NZ (C Lewis) – Broke in the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. The mare will now be placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.
RACE 3 – AARON BAIN RACING & SUMMIT BLOODSTOCK 4YO+ PACE (2130MS)
REGAL CHEVAL (G Hall Jnr) – Hung outwards in the score up as did ONESMARTFELLA NZ (C Voak) which resulted in it not correctly following its barrier position and consequently REGAL CHEVAL was out of position at the candy pole. After considering all circumstances, a warning was issued against the starting manner of REGAL CHEVAL.
THE MIKI TAKER (A De Campo) – Driver A De Campo was fined $300 under HR156(2)(a) for using his whip in more than a flicking motion.
RACE 4 – SKY RACING FFA PACE (2130MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 5 – 4YO WESTBRED MARES CLASSIC PACE (2536MS)
CABSAV (S Suvaljko) - Trainer M Reed was fined $50 under 273(6)(b) for presenting the mare with the incorrect gear (Hood On).
RACE 6 – 4YO WESTBRED ENTIRES & GELDINGS CLASSIC PACE (2536MS)
CHACO EAGLE (V Stampalia) – Driver V Stampalia was found guilty to a charge of careless driving under HR168(1)(a) for allowing the horse to shift inwards on entering the front straight on the final occasion which caused MISTER LINTON (E Suvaljko) to be tightened inwards onto a marker peg and to then race to the inside of two marker pegs. Mr Stampalia was subsequently fined the sum of $200.
RACE 7 – SWANDOO HARNESS RACING PACE (2130MS)
STORMYSKYES (S Steele) – Driver S Steele was reprimanded under HR156(iv)(a) for using his whip continuously without allowing the mare time to respond.
RACE 8 – STEVE WATERS NZ & GARY HALL SNR PACE (1730MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 9 – TABTOUCH TROT (2503MS)
MARENGO BAY (S McDonald) – Broke gait racing out of the front straight on the first occasion. The mare will now be stood down from racing for 6 days and until such time as the completion of a satisfactory requalifying trial.
SON OF A WHIZ NZ (C Lewis) – Broke gait racing into the back straight on the first occasion and again on the second occasion. The gelding will now be stood down from racing for 6 days and until such time as the completion of a satisfactory requalifying trial. The gelding returned having cast a near-fore plate.
THAT’S NOT MY GAIT (A De Campo) – Driver A De Campo was reprimanded for careless driving under HR168(1)(a) for allowing the mare to shift outwards in the front straight on the final occasion.
RACE 10 – THE NULLABOR – 1 WEEK AWAY 3YO PACE (2130MS)
DARK EYES (S Suvaljko) – Raced roughly in the back straight on the final occasion. A post-race veterinary examination of the unplaced gelding revealed no abnormalities.
GREVIS (A De Campo) - Broke gait in the front straight on the final occasion.
General: An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the reason for GREVIS (A De Campo) breaking gait in the front straight on the final occasion. Drivers A De Campo and K Symington (HEEZ A VIBE) will be interviewed in relation to this incident at Gloucester Park on Tuesday, 16 April 2024.
RACE 11 – TROTSYND – NEW SYNDICATES RELEASED SOON PACE (21130MS)
BEE JAYS BOY (S Suvaljko) - Broke gait at the start. The horse will now be placed out of the draw for future mobile start events.
