Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – VALE TERRY GAUNT MS PACE (2130M):
LOUCID DREAMS (M Brown) – Broke gait entering the front straight on the final occasion after racing tightly with FRANCO ENCORE NZ (K Symington) when attempting to shift into a one wide position.
CHACO EAGLE (V Stampalia) – Returned having cast its near hind plate.
MARBEECHSAM (R Warwick) – When questioned in relation to the improved performance, connections advised that the gelding had benefited from a favourable run throughout and was able to obtain a clear running in the later stages of the race which allowed it to finish the race off strongly.
General: Driver M Brown (LOUCID DREAMS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving under HR168(1)(a) for applying pressure to FRANCO ENCORE NZ (K Symington) when attempting to shift into a one wide position causing LOUCID DREAMS to break gait. After considering the degree of carelessness and interference caused to her own drive, Ms Brown was fined the sum of $200.
RACE 2 – RETRAVISION, LOWEST PRICE GUARANTEE MS PACE (2130M):
ROCKABALL NZ (M Ferguson) - Broke as the start was effected and lost ground. Will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
HENWOOD BAY (K Harper) – Checked at the start.
FIREROCKFIREROLL (A De Campo) – Checked at the start and broke gait shortly after. Pulled hard in running and was retired from the race when the gelding choked down entering the back straight on the second occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The gelding will be stood down from racing for 6 days and until such time as the completion of a satisfactory requalifying trial.
STREET APPEAL NZ (C Suvaljko) – Checked at the start and broke gait shortly after.
RACE 3 – WA FOTON DIESEL AT CATALANO 4YO+ MS PACE (2130M):
HAMPTON BANNER NZ (C Lewis) – Raced roughly in the front straight on the final occasion when its near hindleg was contacted by the sulky wheel of NULLARBOR NAVAJO (C Peterson). A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a laceration to the near hind cannon.
MIKI JET NZ (G Hall Jnr) – Driver G Hall Jnr was fined $100 under HR162(1)(i) for failing to be in the correct position at the candy pole.
SKYLOU NZ (S McDonald) – A post-race veterinary examination of the unplaced gelding revealed no abnormalities. Driver S McDonald advised that the gelding had not been able to obtain a forward position in the early stages and was of the opinion his best option would have been to work forward to race outside the leader MIKE JET NZ (G Hall Jnr), however, after ARMA XFACTOR (M Brown) gained that position, he elected to maintain racing with cover. He further advised the gelding raced greenly and may have not been suited by racing three wide without cover from the 900m which contributed to its unplaced performance.
General: Driver C Peterson (NULLARBOR NAVAJO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving under HR168(1)(a) for allowing the mare to shift outwards in the front straight on the final occasion and contacted the near hindleg of HAMPTON BANNER NZ (C Lewis) which raced roughly for a short distance. After considering degree of carelessness and interference, Mr Peterson was fined the sum of $200.
RACE 4 –APG WA GOLD BULLION 3YO COLTS & GELDINGS FINAL (SERIES 33) MS PACE (1730M):

SEVEN NO TRUMPS (E Suvaljko) – When racing keenly as the pace eased in the back straight on the final occasion made contact with the near side sulky wheel of WASA HEAT SEEKER NZ (M Miller) and raced roughly momentarily.
ALLWOOD MACH (R Eyre) – Out of position at the candy pole despite the efforts of its driver. A warning was issued against the gelding’s starting manner. Gave ground from the 700m to be beaten 115m. Due to the uncompetitive performance, Trainer Mr R Eyre was advised that the gelding will not be permitted to start at prime metropolitan meetings until such time as it displays an improvement in its form.
GALAXY WARRIOR (C Voak) - Obliged to race in a four wide position for a short distance leaving the front straight after the bell.
General: Driver S Suvaljko (FEELING ACES) was reprimanded under HR163(1)(b)(i) for causing GALAXY WARRIOR (C Voak) to race in a four wide position for a short distance leaving the front straight after the bell. In determining this matter, Stewards considered that ALLWOOD MACH (R Eyre), which was racing in advance of FEELING ACES, commenced to give ground which was a contributing factor to the incident.
