*Subsequent Report 29th April 2024-

Mr Moran advised he would report the finding to stewards once known.

THATS ART – ($81.00)Driver Brad Hewitt which finished in 3rd position beaten 4.3m was queried into the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his reason for not utilising the sprint lane when it came available and directing the gelding up the track approaching the 100m. Mr Hewitt advised it was his intentions to use the sprint lane however when it became available THATS ART was under pressure & was of the opinion the gelding would still have full opportunity to finish in its best possible position. Mr Hewitt added THATS ART is a difficult horse to drive as the gelding wears a lugging pole on the outside to assist the gelding steering and THATS ART was reluctant to be directed into the sprint lane. Mr Hewitt explained further when the sprint lane came into effect KETO NZ leader shifted inwards which further impeded his progress if he was to use the sprint lane. Mrs Jones advised CAPTAIN TOM was first up since 30 November 2023 which she felt the gelding was at full capacity at the time and would not improve its position if directed wider. Mrs Jones added CAPTAIN TOM is a horse that wears double leg spreaders & when directed wider on the track the gelding strikes its knees more and the gelding is better suited when able to be driven along the marker line to assist the gelding in its gait.  Mrs Jones explained in her opinion CAPTAIN TOM is a horse that resists the whip when it is applied. After viewing the available replays Stewards noted the comments of Mrs Jones and advised they would expect the gelding to be driven in a similar manner going forward.
