RACE 1  –  SPOT ONN PAINTING PACE  –  1609m  Mobile

DO NOT SURRENDER– Shifted out under pressure on straightening for the run to the finish, contributing to a locking of wheels with IMPULZE. Shifted marginally again when the wheels disengaged resulting in contact to the near-hind leg of IMPULZE.

TWO SOCK CREEK NZ– Tired over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 80 metres. A subsequent Veterinary Inspection found no obvious abnormalities. Stewards deemed the performance below the required standard and as such stood TWO SOCK CREEK NZ down from racing until satisfactorily completing two(2) qualifying trials. Stewards in issuing the embargo were mindful, TWO SOCK CREEK NZ was stood down at its most recent start for similar issues, albeit over three months previously.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS– Placed on its last chance to race competitively after tiring over the final 400 to be beaten in excess of 60 metres. A subsequent Veterinary Inspection found no obvious abnormalities. Trainer B Yole expressed his disappointment with OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS, stating he will be considering its racing future, with gelding more than likely spelled.

EQUITY STRIDE– Placed on its last chance to race competitively after tiring over the final 400 to be beaten in excess of 40 metres. On questioning trainer B Yole expressed his concerns with the disappointing performance, indicating to Stewards that it is his intension to immediately spell EQUITY STRIDE.

IMPULZE– Hung in late on the final turn and the early stages of the home straight. Momentarily locked wheels with DO NOT SURRENDER and became unbalanced and broke gait when the wheels disengaged. It was noted that the near-hind leg was contacted by DO NOT SURRENDER’s sulky wheel.

SNEAK A PEEK NZ– Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

General: At the ‘check-in’, D Ford the driver of the fifth placed IMPULZE exercised his right, requesting to view the official race footage of the latter stages of the final turn and early stages of the home straight for the run to the finish. On review driver Ford lodged a protest against the fourth placed DO NOT SURRENDER (R Walters) alleging IMPULZE suffered interference by DO NOT SURRENDER shifting up the track. Stewards after hearing evidence from both drivers, reviewing the official race footage and taking their own observations into account, dismissed the protest and declared ‘All-Clear’ on the judge’s numbers 6-8-7-1-5. Stewards in reaching their decision were of the view that both horses had contributed to the incident, IMPULZE by hanging in and DO NOT SURRENDER by shifting out on straightening. Further, acknowledging that IMPULZE had galloped for some considerable distance the margin between each horse was 17.8 metres making it more than difficult to be sure that IMPULZE would have definitely passed DO NOT SURRENDER in the run to the finish line. At a subsequent inquiry, drivers were informed that although Stewards believed DO NOT SURRENDER was the main contributor to the incident, they were without doubt that IMPULZE had some play in the overall incident and both drivers had endeavoured to keep their respective horses straight. With this being the case Stewards took no action other than to note the circumstances.

RACE 2  –  MCGINNISS MECHANICAL PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

LADY STRIDE– Tired significantly over the concluding stages, beaten in excess of 80 metres. A subsequent Veterinary Inspection found no abnormalities other than the mare being on the light side. On questioning, trainer B Yole confirmed it was the intension of connections to retire LADY STRIDE. Stewards although acknowledging the connections decision, deemed the performance below the required standard and as such stood LADY STRIDE down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

RACE 3  –  EAST COAST COACHES PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

CARDINAL SIN NZ– Shifted out under pressure in the run to the finish.

BRIAN WHO– Held up until able to utilise the sprint lane in the run to the finish.

SPOT ON NZ– Racing in restricted room passing the 800, shifted in resulting in its sulky wheel striking markers.

RACE 4  –  BRENDON SCOTT ELECTRICAL PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

FIGHTING FIRE– Raced rough under pressure over the concluding stages.

LORIMERTYRREL– Hung out during the score-up. Shifted out under pressure in the run to the finish.

GOBSMACKED– Held up rounding the final turn.

ENDEAVOUR STRIDE – Tended to pull hard.

RACE 5  –  CLAREMONT CRASH REPAIRS PACE  –  2090m  Mobile

A GOOD RED– Broke gait when eased by its driver near the 500, after moving simultaneously with VELOCITY STRIDE, which brought both geldings toward each other. Stewards believed the movement should not have resulted in A GOOD RED breaking gait, and as such, combined with the gelding’s race record, Stewards stood A GOOD RED down from racing until satisfactorily completing one(1) qualifying trial.

STRONGHOLD– Tended to pull hard.

SUTTER STAR– Completed the event with a broken tail tie.

URUS NZ– Severely checked when A GOOD RED broke gait.

OUR BALOU– Severely checked when A GOOD RED broke gait.

SEA HAWKE– Severely checked when A GOOD RED broke gait.

MAJOR GENERALJUJON– Checked when A GOOD RED broke gait.

VELOCITY STRIDE– Contacted the final marker when angling to utilise the sprint lane in the run to the finish. Driver Ford was instructed to show more care.

DEADLY ASSASSIN– Well out of position when the start was effected. Stewards, although acknowledging DEADLY ASSASSIN did have a tendency to hang in during the score-up, placed a reprimand on driver T Ford for failing to make sufficient effort to at least attempt to have the gelding up and in position at the start [AHR Rule 162(1)(h)].

RACE 6  –  BRIDGESTONE SELECT HOBART PACE  –  1609m  Mobile

NINE DIAMONDS– Momentarily delayed the start through the necessity of a minor gear adjustment with the mare’s knee boots.

PADDY MACH– Checked and locked wheels when ROCK ON PLAYBOY was eased wider for clear running to the finish.

OZZIE MAJOR– Checked and locked wheels when ROCK ON PLAYBOY was eased wider for clear running to the finish.

ROCK ON PLAYBOY– Eased wider on straightening for the run to the finish carrying PADDY MACH wide into the racing room of OZZIE MAJOR resulting in these geldings locking sulky wheels.

General: Stewards questioned driver D Ford regarding his movement with ROCK ON PLAYBOY, wider on the track on straightening for the run to the finish. Driver Ford explained that he originally thought he had room to move, if able to ease PADDY MACH wide, however at the time of his original movement was not aware OZZIE MAJOR was racing in close proximity to that gelding’s outside. Once realising this was the case, he quickly attempted to cease the move, but it was too late, acknowledging his movement had caused PADDY MACH and OZZIE MAJOR to come together. Stewards, after considering the evidence as tendered issued a charge of careless driving against driver Ford, to which he pled guilty. Stewards, after hearing submissions on penalty fined driver Ford $400. Stewards in reaching penalty took into account, he had attempted to ease out of the tightening, albeit too late, his forthright evidence and his excellent record with regard to careless driving [AHR Rule 168(1)(a)].

RACE 7  –  CAMBRIDGE MECHANICAL SERVICES PACE–  2090m  Mobile

UPSIZE ME NZ– Raced ungenerously at times. Shifted out and raced rough in the early stages of the home straight in the run to the finish.

PROFICIENT NZ– Placed on its last chance to race truly after breaking gait free of interference near the 500. This incident resulted in JACK JAMES being inconvenienced.

JACK JAMES– Inconvenienced when PROFICIENT NZ broke gait. Utilised the sprint lane in the run to the finish.
