STEWARDS REPORT FOR CRANBOURNE

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – WORLD’S BEST HOOF OIL CRANBOURNE 10,000 FINAL (2080 MS)

General

Trainer Rita Burnett was cautioned for failing to notify tactics for her respective runners IM THE MIGHTYGRAMPS and ALASTAIR LAVROS.

IM THE MIGHTYGRAMPS – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

KEAYANG SANTIAGO – Post-race swab sample obtained.

DIEGOS DIAMOND – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

TARA VICTORY NZ – Trainer Scott Ewen will be spoken to at a later date with regards to the mare being presented to race with gear not approved.

Supplementary Report – Cranbourne, Tuesday 16 April 2024

TARA VICTORY NZ – Trainer Scott Ewen pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 273(1) for presenting the mare to race with a bit not approved by Harness Racing Australia (HRA). Given the nature of the equipment and no evidence of any effect, Mr Ewen was fined $500.

SHOOBEES SPIRIT – Hung out passing the 700m.  

PRECIOUS BELLE NZ – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

BUDD SIDEWINDER – Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and was not fully tested.

RACE 2 – BLUE HILLS RISE PACE (1609 MS)

General

The start of this event was delayed by approx. 4min due to a replacement sulky being fitted to WATTLEBANK FLYER NZ.

COVERED KYLIE – Inconvenienced on the entry to the home straight when shifting wider to avoid the galloping HART OF CYPRUS.

HART OF CYPRUS – Passing the 300m, placed in restricted room to the inside of MARIANNA BROMAC NZ which shifted in before being checked and breaking gait. A post-race veterinarian examination found abrasions to its R Hind limb with no treatment required.

DIAMONDSNBLUE – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

WATTLEBANK FLYER NZ – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts and being 12YO. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Hung in during the later stages of the score up prior to being restrained.

HOOTN HOLLA – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

MARIANNA BROMAC NZ – Driver George Schembri pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for cause or contribute to interference in that passing the 300m, he has failed to take all reasonable effort to prevent his mare from shifting in and causing interference to HART OF CYPRUS which galloped. Mr Schembri had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence at midnight, Sunday 7 April 2024 and to expire on Monday 15 April 2024 on which day he may drive. When considering penalty Stewards took into account Mr Schembri’s guilty plea, driving and offence record in addition to the circumstances attached to this incident.

LAVADA GOLD – No action was taken against the gelding for being out of position when hampered by the galloping DIAMONDSNBLUE. Paced roughly for a short distance near the 300m when improving wider on the track.

RACE 3 – HERTZ PACE (1609 MS)

MY LITTLE BO – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

OUR ARABELLA – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 33.1m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities.

BRAEBEACH NZ – Pre-race blood sample obtained.  

DANCIN WITH LUSH – Driver Connor Ronan was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements whilst leading.

NIFTY JOLT – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Hung in approaching the 400m when improving wider on the track.

RACE 4 – HERTZ PACE (1609 MS)

VERY TEMPTING – Pre-race blood sample obtained.

I WANT IT ALL NZ – Held up for clear running until passing the 100m.

LOTAKEVI – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding being 12YO. No abnormalities were found on either examination. Post-race swab sample obtained.

GOING GREAT GUNS – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 33.9m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Jordan Chibnall explained that she was required to make use of her gelding in the early stages to improve forward and connections had demonstrated their disappointing in the run given the gelding had been working well leading into this event.

PAIGETHEHURRIKANE – Raced keenly during the middle stages.

CRAFTY OLD FOX – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.  

RACE 5 – HERTZ PACE (1609 MS)

FEEL THE REIGN – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the rig having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. 

SHALLOW BEACH – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 47.1m.

MAYWYNS JEWEL – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 9th position, beaten 97.8m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to find any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Driver Matt Newberry explained that his mare struck its knee in the run and proved disappointing. Given the performance, MAYWYNS JEWEL was placed on its last chance to race competitively.

WHOS WATCHING LILY – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to the event and passed fit to race.

STORMONT STAR – Post-race swab sample obtained.

RACE 6 – HERTZ PACE (2080 MS)

IM WESLEY – Broke gait during the score up, out of position at the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  

EL BOSTON – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Raced keenly throughout the event.

RACE 7 – DECRON PACE (1609 MS)

SASSYOLA – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the mare having competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination. 

ROSANNA REBEL – Post-race swab sample obtained. 

BROOKYINTHEPADDOCK – Pre-race blood sample obtained. Raced keenly throughout the event.

RACE 8 – ALDEBARAN PARK TROT (2080 MS)

DA PREZ – Entering the first turn, hung in and raced inside the line of a number of marker pegs before breaking gait. The gelding was placed on its last chance to race truly.

BUSLIN BRODY – Began badly when galloping away and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. 

YOGI SON NZ – Broke gait during the score up and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Raced keenly before breaking gait near the 1200m. 

MACHO MAN – Pre-race blood sample obtained.  

CHAMPAGNE CHARLEY – Began badly when galloping away and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.
