Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – O’CONNOR’S CASE IH 3YO MAIDEN PACE (1690MS)

HAY MIKI – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Paced roughly rounding the final turn when held up.

SHES A TINY DANCER – Trainer Leroy O’Brian was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the filly.

NETRA NZ – Trainer Leilani Justice was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the filly. Driver Jackie Barker explained that after obtaining a trailing position in the early stages, she elected on the approach to the first turn to shift her runner inwards as SUNSET STRIDE, the horse in which she was trailing, was restraining and she considered that runner would likely be taken back to the rear of the field given the small field size. Ms Barker stated that racing into the back straight, she had manoeuvred one off the fence and was looking to trail COBARGOWARLOCK forward however, as that runner commenced to give ground, she lost ground and further, NETRA NZ commenced to hang in and lost further ground. Ms Barker added when balancing up over the final stages her filly found the line strongly and with the benefit of hindsight, she accepted that she would have been best placed moving forward and sitting outside the leader. Trainer Leilani Justice explained that since joining her stable, NETRA NZ has trialled and worked well leading into the event and would appear to be versatile. Ms Justice added that overall, she was happy in the manner her filly finished off the race in fast time.

SUNSET STRIDE – Trainer Shane Sanderson was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the filly.

COBARGO WARLOCK – Paced roughly when giving ground rounding the final turn.

RACE 2 – GMG FINANCIAL GROUP MAIDEN PACE (2100 MS)

HOOTN HOLLA – Trainer Sam Barker was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare. Post-race swab sample obtained.

ERNIELOVENBOY – Trainer Tim Mortlock was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the gelding. Delayed the start due to the gelding requiring a crupper to be replaced following the false start.

MY GREAT EIGHT – Broke gait during the score up resulting in a false start being called when causing interference to BALLADORO. The gelding will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

LORINO – Weakened over the final stages to finish in 12th position, beaten 71.0m for which a warning was issued.

SHE IS LOVELY – Trainer Mark Watson was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare.

RIVIERA ROSE – When questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in 10th position, beaten 28.5m, driver Kerryn Manning explained that her mare travelled well in the run up until she elected to improve three wide from the 600m at which point the pace quickened.

THE BORIS – Trainer Gary Murnane was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the gelding. Weakened over the final stages to finish in 11th position, beaten 70.1m. No action was taken given the gelding broke its #2 hopple carrying strap near the 800m at which time the gelding was eased.

RACE 3 – BETAVET PACE FINAL (1609 MS)

JOHNNY REDCOAT – Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to and following the event due to the gelding being 13YO and competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were found on either examination.

RACE 4 – AMES AUSTRALASIA PACE (2100 MS)

FAIR CHANCE – Trainer Joe Thompson was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare. Began badly when galloping away and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

COCOSDREAM – Trainer Jess Tubbs was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare.

MISS BALLYMENA NZ – Gave ground over the final stages to finish in 8th position, beaten 37.1m.

KAPTAIN KIDD – Trainer Michelle Phillips was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the gelding.

SMOOTH TECHY – Trainer Kelvin Barker was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare. Inconvenienced after the start due to the galloping FAIR CHANCE. Inconvenienced between the 400 and 300m when lost ground due to MISS BALLYMENA NZ.

VALERIE LANE – Trainer Peter Manning was fined $50 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the mare.

SEVE NZ – Racing into the first turn was tightened to the inside of ANGUS INDIANA. After making a three wide run from the 1400m, gave ground over the final stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 31.3m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance and tactics displayed, Driver Jordan Leedham explained that when the paced settled during the first quarter, he elected to improve his drive given MADIGAN had done work from the 2nd line to improve and felt given this work it was likely cover would be wanted. Mr Leedham stated that when improving, he made a brief challenge and when the position was not available, he maintained his position three wide given the distance remaining. Mr Leedham added that in view of the tough run, his gelding found wanting over the final stages.

YANKEE BOOT FLAT – Trainer Julie Brimacombe was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the gelding. Examined by the clubs veterinarian prior to the event when being cast in the stalls. The gelding was passed fit.
