RACE 1 – STU VALENTINE 4 BLOODSTOCK INSURANCE PACE – 2260 metres

TOOLITTLETOOLATE– Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

ROSE OF JULIANA– Trainer Driver A Clancy was questioned regarding the performance and tactics adopted on the mare, in particular him appearing to drive his runner forward from near the 2000 metres to approaching the 1600 metres, when there appeared to be an opportunity to obtain cover behind UNREAL FEELING, especially considering his runner was having its first start in three months over the longer distance. A Clancy stated that he was mindful of his runner being first up over the longer distance, however, he was confident of it running well after trialling well leading up to the run. He added that when MACS A DUDE led, he was of the view that it was likely to surrender that position as he didn’t feel it had overly strong form and had not led in any of its recent starts. He further added that when UNREAL FEELING improved to his outside entering the first turn he felt it would be likely to keep going forward to the lead and he did not want to be left facing the breeze outside the leader. He also felt that MACS A DUDE commenced to ease as they started to round the turn and he hoped to be able to cross it and then surrender the lead to UNREAL FEELING. A Clancy added that it became apparent leaving the 1800 metres that MACS A DUDE was not going to surrender the lead to his runner, so he commenced to ease and got cover on the back of UNREAL FEELING. He added that in hindsight he would have obtained cover behind UNREAL FEELING earlier, although still felt if that runner had of got the position outside the leader earlier it would have been then able to continue to work forward to the lead. He further added that given the circumstances he was not too disappointed with his mare’s run and felt he may have been a bit easy on her with her work since the trial, and felt she would improve from tonight’s run.

UNREAL FEELING – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1600 metres. Driver O Frisby was given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding, she stated that after having to drive it forward harder than she would have liked in the early stages to get to the position outside the leader, she had difficulty in getting it to settle once it got to that position. She added with the early work and it not settling over the longer distance she reasonably pleased with its performance.

STUDLEIGH STARLITE– Raced roughly for a short distance during the score-up. Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from a poor post-race recovery. Connections were advised the mare would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

BEACHRIDE– Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

GABBYS SPORTSTAR – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

RACE 2 – BEDWELLS FEED BARN LADYHIP PACE – 1730 metres

ROCKINDOWNUNDER– Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

HALL CASH – Inconvenienced after the start by the galloping LADY ROCKABELLUM.

BLAZIN CHIMES – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it was having its first race start in over 12 months, and cleared to start. Inconvenienced after the start by the galloping LADY ROCKABELLUM. Raced ungenerously leaving the 1400 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance Driver J O’Shea stated that the mare’s near side hind hopple loop slipped down under its hock in the early stages of the event, placing the mare at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

RACE 3 – LION NATHAN PACE – 1730 metres

HUNK OF SPUNK – Raced roughly after the start.

VAPAR FIRE – Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

RACE 4 – PETER MOORE MEMORIAL – 2260 metres

CHASIN BETTER DAYS– Sulky wheel contacted by MARVELLOUS MAC near the 200 metres.

SCRUFFY NZ – Broke gait after the start for which a warning was issued. Dropped its near side knee boot in this incident. While galloping contacted the sulky of BETTING JEWEL.

KING BOBBIE– Checked after the start when SCRUFFY NZ broke gait.

VAMOS– Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

MARVELLOUS MAC – Hung-in near the 200 metres, for which a warning was issued, as a result contacted the sulky wheel of CHASIN BETTER DAYS and was checked and raced roughly.

BETTING JEWEL– Sulky contacted by the galloping SCRUFFY NZ near the 2000 metres, and was checked as a result.

RACE 5 – BATHURST PANTHERS PACE – 1730 metres

BO DUKE NZ – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres. Driver I Ross was given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding, she stated it was not suited, after having to work forward three wide in the early stages, by the relatively quick tempo of the race while racing outside the leader.

CARLO GAMBINO NZ– Post-race swab sampled.

MIGHTY JOE– Pre-race swab sampled.

RACE 6 – EQUISSAGE 2YO PACE – 1730 metres

RIKIBREAL– Post-race swab sampled.

JUNGLE DRAGON – Driver J Chapple was issued with a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that near the finish line he has attempted to take a run between TULHURST PARTYGIRL and DA VINCENT where there was insufficient room and made contact to the sulky wheel of DA VINCENT after passing the finish line and his runner has broken gait as a result.

DOLLY ROCKET– Pre-race swab sampled.

SHE THE DEVIL – Placed back in the draw for future mobile start races.

RACE 7 – BOURKES HORSE RUGS PACE – 1730 metres

LAYLA SHANNON– Pre-race swab sampled. Shifted out when being restrained from the back of NEVERTOOLATE when attempting to obtain clear running to the outside of that runner near the 200 metres, as a result MAKE MINE BETTOR was inconvenienced. Post-race swab sampled.

JOSEY MINT– Over-raced during the early and middle stages of the event. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn, prior to obtaining a run in the sprint lane. Driver P Wood was questioned regarding him not releasing the mare’s hopple shortener pin’s during the race. P Wood stated that the mare over-raced and he had difficulty keeping it back from the runner it was following, LAYLA SHANNON, during the event, as he felt if he attempted to do so it would make contact with that runner’s sulky. He added that when he obtained a run in the sprint lane, he felt his best course of action was to drive the mare out with the reins as soon as they got that run given how close they were to the finish, rather than attempting to release them which would delay placing her under pressure at that stage. He further added that the difference in length of the hopples on this particular mare with the shorteners in compared to when released is only minor and he felt it did not make a difference to the way the mare finished the race off, or her finishing position. Stewards accepted P Wood’s explanation with regards to the mare over-racing, but did feel he did have an opportunity to release the shorteners when he obtained clear running in the home straight, however given the particular circumstances, felt that there had been no material effect to the placings and subsequently took no action other than to advise P Wood of his obligations under Rule 162(1)(r).

MAKE MINE BETTOR – Inconvenienced and raced roughly near the 200 metres, when LAYLA SHANNON shifted out.
