Driver Liam Older, when questioned in relation to the tactics adopted explained that he was able to obtain the lead relatively comfortably however despite that the lead time recorded was reasonably fast. Mr Older added that he was somewhat surprised as LORIMERMAJOR (A Scott) challenged briefly for the lead down the back straight on the first occasion and as that runner commenced to over-race he was unable to obtain the respite he desired. Mr Older further added that as NAKULA NZ improved quickly to his outside passing the 1000m he was then content to maintain the lead as AMORE ROCK continued to travel well and noting it was then inside the final lap. Mr Older considered that the pressure received in the lead and the longer distance in this event then may have contributed to the gelding giving ground over the latter stages. Mr Older’s explanation was noted.
