R Eleven Art NZ (Angus Garrard) settled in a position one out two back early in the race and led the three wide line from the 800 metres but failed to run on in the concluding stages and finished in seventh position beaten 16 metres. Driver Angus Garrard advised he was not disappointed with the performance outlining the quick sectionals of 27.4 and 27.4 for the last 800 metres were the main contributing factor for the gelding not finishing closer. He advised he was obliged to move out three wide leaving the 800 metres when the three wide line improved and he did not want to risk being placed in a pocket at that point. He said the gelding maintained its ground when racing wide in the quick final half and given the circumstances he felt the gelding performed satisfactorily.

Stewards directed a veterinary examination be carried out on the gelding which revealed a laceration to the off side foreleg which required no standdown period. Driver Chloe Butler advised Stewards the gelding was irregular in its breathing during the race. Kadar was subsequently barred from racing until a satisfactory trial is performed.
