General– Prior to the all-clear being given, T Day the Driver of the fifth placed runner SO HIDDENadvised Stewards he would like to view the patrol footage of near the 1000 metres to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the third placed CINDAROCKINRELLA. After viewing the footage, T Day elected not to proceed with an objection. Furthermore, prior to the all-clear being given, N Turnbull the Driver of the second placed runner TIGER TOMMY NZadvised Stewards he would like to view the patrol footage of the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the first placed CAMNAT. After viewing the footage, N Turnbull lodged an objection against CAMNAT,alleging interference upon entering the home straight and in the home straight. His stated grounds being that CAMNAThad shifted out and he had to check his runner wider a number of times as a result. Evidence was heard from the Trainer/Driver of CAMNAT – I Butt, and further evidence from N Turnbull, and the patrol footage was further reviewed. Stewards upheld the protest as they were of the view that CAMNAThad in fact hung-out upon entering home straight and in the home straight, resulting in TIGER TOMMY NZ being inconvenienced upon entering the home straight and again near the 100 metres, and given the margin of a nose between those two runners at the finish, felt that if the interference had not occurred, TIGER TOMMY NZ would have beaten CAMNATto the finish line. All clear was given on the new numbers – 3, 5, 1, 8.
CINDAROCKINRELLA – Hung-out near the 1000 metres, for which a warning was issued.
CONROD KENZE – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start.
TIGER TOMMY NZ– Inconvenienced when taken wider upon entering the home straight and near the 100 metres when CAMNAT shifted-out, successfully protested against that runner. Post-race swab sampled.
CAMNAT– Pre-race swab sampled. Worked forward to take over the lead from CONROD KENZE leaving the 1200 metres. Hung-out under pressure upon entering the home straight and near the 100 metres, inconveniencing TIGER TOMMY NZ, for which a warning was issued. Lost first place on protest to TIGER TOMMY NZ. Post-race swab sampled.
SO HIDDEN– Forced out to a three wide position near the 1000 metres, when CINDAROCKINRELLA hung-out. Then raced three wide until taking over the position outside the leader near the 800 metres.
REGAL FINALE– Pre-race swab sampled.
RACE 7 – SOUTHWEST TRACTORS LADYSHIP PACE – 1720 metres
ALICE ON THE BEACH– Pre-race swab sampled. Broke gait free of interference and almost fell rounding the first turn, for which a warning was issued, and was retired from the event. A post-race Veterinary examination of the mare revealed no significant abnormalities, although it did have a superficial cut to the back of its off fore heel.
IRON ANNIE – Broke gait for a short distance during the early part of the score-up, given the mare’s record and the circumstances, connections were advised it would be placed on its last chance in the draw. Inconvenienced and then worked forward to take over the lead from ALICE ON THE BEACH, when that runner broke gait, approaching the 1400 metres.
TASTE IT– Checked and broke gait during the early part of the score-up when IRON ANNIE broke gait, then inconvenienced during the latter part of the score-up when FLEUR BELLA hung-in and was out of position at the start. RACE 8 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY MAIDEN PACE – 2100 metres
MATATOA– Pre-race swab sampled. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event. Held up for clear running until near the 100 metres. Driver N Turnbull was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare, in particular whether there was an opportunity to shift out from his marker peg position from near the 600 metres to near the 400 metres in an endeavour to obtain clear running in the home straight. N Turnbull stated that he doesn’t feel the mare is very strong given the way it was unable to finish the race off last start after leading over the shorter distance and was trying to give it the shortest run to the line he could. He added at that stage of the race he was following the leader, which was favourite and he expected it to take him further into the race than it did. He further added that approaching the 400 metres GELIGNITE JOE which was racing outside the leader, looked to be under pressure so he was of the view that it would drop back and he would be able to save ground rounding the home turn and then get out in front of it, but it didn’t drop off as he expected.
JUST CALL ME HARRY– Pre-race swab sampled. Driver R Coelli was asked to comment on the gelding’s below market expectations performance, he stated he was disappointed with its effort over the concluding stages given it had been able to run at a steady tempo during the early and middle stages of the event. He added that the extra distance of tonight’s race may not have suited it at this stage of its preparation.
SOLDTOYOUSIR – Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.
MURIEL– Driver M Day was fined the sum of $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) for using his whip with an action that was more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight. Post-race swab sampled.
