OFFICIALLY SAID – Raced roughly after the start for which a warning was issued. Driver P McRae was questioned regarding the below market expectation performance of the gelding, he stated that it didn’t handle racing back on the smaller track, resulting in it racing roughly after the start and was brushing its knee at stages throughout the race. He added he attempted to improve into the race from near the 400 metres but was pushed wider rounding the home turn and the wider on the track the gelding got the more it was inclined to hit its knee and was unable to improve as a result.

ASH BEE– Driver M Turnbull was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that shortly after the start he shifted the geldingin when not sufficiently clear of LIGHTNING BAY, which was tightened for room between his runner and CHILL AND BURN, which hung-out slightly, and was checked and broke gait. In not issuing a more severe penalty Stewards took into account, there was the contribution to the incident by CHILL AND BURN.

PETES ART FOLLY NZ – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres.

Tired over the concluding stages of the race.

SHANDIN BEACH – Tired over the concluding stages of the race.

OH SO TINNY– Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres. Driver M Hewitt was questioned regarding his tactics, in particular him leaving the one-out one back position to improve to the position outside the leader near the 1200 metres. M Hewitt stated that the gelding is more of a staying type of horse than a sprinter and with the field travelling so slowly at that point in the race felt his runner would be outsprinted to the finish. He added that he had in his mind also that the gelding had performed well racing outside the leader at its most recent start at Griffith so was happy to take up that position when it appeared available. He further added that again given the slow tempo one of the other runners behind him were likely to improve three wide to that position pushing him further back and making it tougher again for his runner given it is not a quick sprinter. M Hewitt added that he was pleased with how the gelding toughed it out tonight and felt it was the way to drive it given how the race was being run.
