STEWARDS REPORT FOR YARRA VALLEY

MONDAY 1 AUGUST 2022

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted. 

RACE 1 – ASHMORES SMASH REPAIRS PACE (2150 MS)

Good Feelings underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations pursuant to HRV animal welfare policy due to its number of lifetime starts. Neither check revealed any abnormalities. 

A warning was issued against Princess Chilla which was out of position at the start.

Lotakevi was held up for clear running on the final turn prior to utilising the home straight.

Driver Annalise Scott (Lotakevi) was issued a caution for contacting marker pegs entering the home straight.

RACE 2 – IGA LIQUOR TROTTERS HANDICAP (2150 SS)

Savvy Kyvalley and Meghan NZ were held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.

RACE 3 – YARRA GLEN IGA 3YO PACE (2150 MS)

Serengeti Sunrise was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Very Tempting broke gait on the final turn when clear on interference and the gelding has now been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Shoobee Gotcha utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

Flo Jo Carvalho tired from the 400m to be beaten 97m into last place.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality and the filly has now been placed on its last chance to race competitively.

RACE 4 – YARRA VALLEY TOYOTA PACE (1650 MS)

Jasperine was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Conor Crook, driver of Island Rocknroll pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 165(1)(b).  The particulars of the charge being that approaching the first turn, Mr.Crook permitted his drive to shift in from a position one off the marker pegs when not the required clearance of Madame West causing that mare to be tightened, race roughly and subsequently lose its rightful racing position.  Mr.Crook licence to drive in races was suspended for 10 days.  In assessing penalty, in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards took into account Mr.Crook’s guilty plea, his good recent record under relevant rules and the degree of interference.                         

RACE 5 - UNITED PETROLEUM PACE (2150 MS)

Spencer, which was having its first start since August 2021 underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations which revealed no abnormality.

A warning was issued against the performance of Machavelli (last position, 59m) which tired from the 400m, inconveniencing Coveffe Hustler and Emjays Black Chip.

Coveffe Hustler, Emjays Black Chip and Spencer were all held up for clear running on the final turn.

Spencer utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

RACE 6 – DE BORTOLI PACE (2150 MS)

Reclusive broke in the score up and was out of position at the start.  The gelding will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Rock Phone hung in after the start.
