Supplementary report Redcliffe race 8 - 27 October

Stewards completed their inquiry into the driving tactics adopted by Paige Bevan (Jingles Bromac NZ) from race eight at Redcliffe on 27 October 2022. Of concern to the Stewards was Paige Bevan’s failure to take the opportunity of racing with cover when Altana Blue improved three wide in the front straight with a lap remaining. In answer to the Stewards concerns Paige Bevan advised Stewards of instructions from the trainer were to lead if possible and should that plan not prevail, to race without cover and the horse had been driven in this manner. Stewards advised Paige Bevan the form line of Jingles Bromac NZ, that being the horse was second up from a spell and was the rank outsider in the field did not warrant the gelding to be driven aggressively which ultimately resulted in Jingles Bromac finishing in last position beaten 38 metres. Paige Bevan was advised that she had erred in her judgement by not taking cover and continuing to drive the gelding forward after being exerted earlier in the race for a forward position. Whilst Stewards did not lay a charge for an unacceptable drive on this occasion, Paige Bevan was advised her driving would be closely monitored and any future lapses in judgement of a similar nature may result in action being taken against their licence. Paige Bevan was reprimanded under AHR rule 43A (1) for leaving the racecourse within the prescribed timeframes without gaining permission from Stewards.

General

The all clear on this race was delayed to allow the Stewards the opportunity of viewing the start to establish if Swift Change was denied a fair start due to Short Leg Sue which was drawn directly in advance galloping prior to the starting point.
