Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided stewards with their intentions prior to the event.

RACE 1  KINGSLEY LANE MEMORIAL  – 1609MS

BOBBYADLEM – Gave ground over the final 300 metres of the event to eventually be beaten 65.0 meters, as it was only the geldings first start, a warning was issued with respect to its performance.

TRIGGER – Hung in and contacted marker pegs near the 450 metres, a warning was issued. Stewards questioned trainer T Ryan regarding the performance of TRIGGER, due to the fact on face value the performance was below expectation. T Ryan stated that he was disappointed with the performance, as he believed the gelding was capable of winning the event, especially after finding the lead and being allowed to set a favourable tempo. He stated that Trigger had recovered well after tonight’s performance and had worked well at home since his previous start, which the gelding had won, albeit in slower time. T Ryan advised Stewards that he would continue to monitor Trigger recovery, after tonight’s meeting, and if anything was to arise which may explain the performance he would advise the Stewards, he also stated that he would not start TRIGGER again until he was confident the gelding would be more competitive.

KICKAPOO CREEK – Driver T McMahon advised Stewards that the deafeners failed to release when she attempted to activate them near the 250 metres.

RACE 2  HYGAIN SPRINT (ROUND 1) – 1100MS

IM THE MIGHTY JUDD – Stewards questioned driver L. Holman regarding the tactics she adopted in this event, in particular her decision to withstand a prolonged challenge for the lead, from ILLAWONG KIM, and then the ultimate finishing position of IM THE MIGHTY JUDD, which was last beaten 23.0 metres. L. Holman stated that it was the instructions of the trainer T. Olsen that due to the short distance of the race, it would be advantageous to hold the lead if possible. L. Holman also believed that surrendering the lead to ILLAWONG KIM would result in her not being able to win the race, and she was surprised that the pressure was applied for the amount of time that it was. She also stated that the gelding had over-raced when racing in a trailing position previously, so with all things considered she believed the best option was to hold the lead. Stewards noted her explanation.

ILLAWONG KIM – Driver M.A. Smith was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(c) for talking to another driver at the conclusion of the event. Stewards were concerned with his decision to wait at the top of the track until such time as he could speak to driver L. Holman, about the tactics she adopted. L. Holman confirmed the communication from M.A. Smith was not of an aggressive nature, however Stewards reminded M.A. Smith that the perception to the general public was a poor one and that in future he should wait until an appropriate time to discuss the race with other drivers. He was also advised it was unacceptable to look back over his shoulder for a prolonged period at the conclusion of an event, and a repeat performance would result in action being taken against him.

CELESTIAL DAYBREAK – Forced to race three wide for the duration of the event.

CHARMING MAJOR NZ – Underwent a veterinary examination at the conclusion of the race and it was established that the gelding had suffered a bilateral nasal haemorrhage, consequently the gelding was stood down from racing for 3 months and would then need to undergo a veterinary examination as well as complete a satisfactory re-qualifying trial.

RACE 3  VALE GRAHAM MAYWALD PACE  – 1609MS

FLEETING FEELGOOD – Gave ground over the final 400 metres of the event to eventually be beaten 35.0 meters, a warning was issued with respect to its performance.

CUTE ROCK – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

WINSTON ALEXANDER – Driver T. Mumford was fined $250.00 under rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a flicking motion.

INDYANNA – Had difficulty finding a clear run over the closing stages of the event, however, the mare had been put under pressure prior to running out of racing room.

RACE 4  VALE LAURIE BROOK PACE  – 1609MS

HALF MOON BEACH – Shifted out under pressure in the final straight, despite the efforts of driver M.A. Smith, a warning was issued.

DEAL BREAKER – Broke gait in the early stages of the score up and was out of position when the start was effected, taking no competitive part in the race, will now be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

TUSCAN STAR – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 5  CENTURIAN PACE – 2050MS

WEEROONA BOY – Showed gate speed and then obtained a trail shortly thereafter, however had a tendency to over-race when in a trailing position.

ABSTRACTOR – Utilised the sprint lane when it became available and was fully tested in the final straight.

RACE 6  HENRY OSBORNE FODDER SPRINT (ROUND 2) – 1100MS

CHARMING MAJOR NZ was a late scratching in this event due to the on-course veterinarian determining that the gelding had a bilateral nasal haemorrhage at the conclusion of Race 2, which was round 1 of the “dual race” All other runners were inspected and passed fit to participate in round 2.

ILLAWONG KIM – Raced fiercely in the score up, a warning was issued.

IM THE MIGHTY JUDD – Raced fiercely in the score up, and then after the start when being restrained to take a trailing position, a warning was issued. Gave ground from the 400 metres to eventually be beaten 63.0 metres, a warning was issued.

RACE 7   LAUCKE MILLS PACE – 1609MS

FOREVER BETTOR - Broke gait in the early stages of the score up and was out of position when the start was effected, will now be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

BUCKLEDOWN CHRISSY – Stewards questioned driver R. Hryhorec regarding being out of position at the start and then the tactics he adopted in the event, in particular his decision to push forward at the start and then sit on level terms with the leader throughout the event, which resulted in the mare giving ground and beaten 31.0 metres. R. Hryhorec advised Stewards that he had been advised by the trainer that the horse had a tendency to throw its head around if restrained and would race ungenerously as well. This is the reason he was out of position at the start, as R. Hryhorec had been reluctant to get on the gate too early, due to the characteristics of the mare, and had misjudged the start. BUCKLEDOWN CHRISSY was placed on its last chance in the draw. R. Hryhorec went on to say that with the mare’s reluctance to be restrained, this was also the reason he pushed forward after the start, as the trainer had advised that it would be best to find a position that BUCKLEDOWN CHRISSY would not need to follow another runner and allow the mare to run its own race. He attempted to reduce the tempo mid race, which was evident with the 32.0 second 2nd quarter. R. Hryhorec stated that BUCKLEDOWN CHRISSY still had plenty to learn about racing and was difficult to drive, which was evident when the mare hung in near the 1000 metres, however the trainer was taking the steps necessary to improve the racing manners of the mare. Stewards noted his explanation and placed a warning of the horse for hanging in.
