RACE 1 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE – 2125 metres

LETS PARTY BABY– Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Prior to the declaration of all clear driver C Geary on behalf of connections of second past the post LETS PARTY BABY, exercised his right to review the official film regarding the concluding stages.  C Geary then lodged a protest on behalf of connections alleging interference over the final 200 metres.  It was established that near the 150 metres LETS PARTY BABY had improved to the outside of MUSCLE BART then, MUSCLE BART shifted out causing LETS PARTY BABY to be checked away from that runner and lose significant momentum. Then near the 100 metres LETS PARTY BABY was hampered on a second occasion when MUSCLE BART shifted out under pressure.  Given the degree of interference, the manner both runners were travelling leading up to the incidents, proximity of the incidents to the finish of the event and the margin of a head, Stewards were satisfied that had the two incidents not occurred, LETS PARTY BABY would have finished ahead of MUSCLE BART and subsequently the protest was upheld.  The all clear was then given on the new numbers of 2, 4, 1 and 7.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.

MUSCLE BART– Approaching the 150 metres commenced to shift out under pressure as driver R Morris was releasing the deafeners then near the 100 metres shifted out under pressure on a second occasion.  Subsequently MUSCLE BART which was first past the post, lost that position on protest to LETS PARTY BABY.  A warning was placed on MUSCLE BART for its racing manners over the final 200 metres.  Post-race swab samples were obtained.
