He stated that shortly after the start SUGAR HIGH commenced to over race and strike its own sulky which caused the mare to become unsettled and over race.  He added that he initially attempted to restrain the mare however the more restraint he applied the more SUGAR HIGH struck the wheels therefore he made the decision to allow the mare to stride forward in the hope that she may relax. However this did not have the desired effect.  B Portelli explained that he had not experienced this issue with SUGAR HIGH previously and he has a longer sulky than most. He added that he was surprised that the mare had the capacity to be able to strike a wheel in running due to the length of his sulky and the position that he had the sulky set at.  B Portelli said that SUGAR HIGH had raced previously at Penrith and trialled at the same venue without issue.  B Portelli added that he would ensure that he lets his sulky out to the extremities of its capacity if he is to bring SUGAR HIGH back to the smaller half mile track in future.  B Portelli was advised that despite his explanation SUGAR HIGH must complete one satisfactory trial for what was deemed to be an unsatisfactory performance.
