FOUROEIGHT– Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 3 – TIM BUCKLEY’S GETTING MARRIED PACE – 2300 metres

ASHARK– Pre-race blood sample.  Stewards questioned driver Brad Elder with regards to the tactics he adopted in the event, in particular his decision to remain on the marker pegs during the middle stages rather than obtain a favourable position one out one back, in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which finished in tenth placing beaten 24 metres.  Mr Elder advised Stewards that he was offered instructions by trainer Melanie Elder to look for a forward position in running however the gelding was beaten for pace in the early stages by LOUIE THE PUNTER NZ and when he became aware that that runner was not going to hand up the lead he looked to take cover. Mr Elder further advised that he considered shifting from the marker pegs to a position in the running line passing the 1600 metres however he felt at that stage that it would not have been preferable to follow MAN FROM BRAAVOS as he wasn’t satisfied based on the form of that runner that it could take him into the event.  Mr Elder advised that he believed the performance of the gelding was disappointing despite the soft run and he was therefore unable to explain the performance, other than having not raced for five weeks and  racing over the unfavourable 2300 metre distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Elder Stewards determined to note his comments.

ROCK OF DELIGHT– Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 100 metres.

FAZE OF GLORY NZ– Caught racing three wide in the early stage of the event before working forward to the lead passing the 1300 metres.

LITTLE BLISS– Post-race swab sample.

OURSHOUTHERNSTAR– Pre-race blood sample.  Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1100 metres.

BETTOR BE KEPT– Pre-race blood sample.  Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Momentarily locked sulky stays with ZANADU passing the entry to the home straight when that runner hung out under pressure.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Stewards questioned driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the performance of the mare which despite suffering some interference entering the home straight tired over the concluding stages to finish in tenth placing beaten 21 metres.  Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that the mare was again disappointing this evening.  Mr Callaghan advised that despite the fast first sectional he felt he was able to get some respite racing outside the leader through the second quarter and as a result of the disappointing performance connections have advised that the mare would likely be retired.  After considering the explanation of Mr Callaghan Stewards determined to note his comments.

RACE 5 – MCLAREN REAL ESTATE RESIDENTIAL PACE – 1609 metres

ALLSET NZ– Broke stride during the middle stages of the score up and as a result was out of position at the start and took no competitive part in the event.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

CRUZ BROMAC – Trainer Jason Grimson was fined $100 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Amanda Turnbull as the driver of the gelding.

ALDEBARAN URSULA– Pre-race blood sample.

MAJESTIC SIMON NZ– Worked forward to the lead passing the 1200 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

DANCE SECRET– Pre-race blood sample.  Broke stride during the early stages of the score up and continued to gallop for the remainder of the event and unable to be restrained by driver Robert Morris.  Stewards after considering submissions from trainer Blake Fitzpatrick ordered the gelding be disqualified under Rule 15(t) for completing the entirety of the event in the incorrect gait.  In addition, after considering the recent record of the gelding, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.

VITELLIUS– Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the lead passing the 1800 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

ONE PINEVALE HILL– Out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver Andrew Towers.  After considering the recent record of the filly, it will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.  Stewards questioned driver Andrew Towers with regards to the racing manners of the filly which was unable to maintain a position with the remainder of the field for the first 1000 metres of the event.  Mr Towers explained that the filly having had only four race starts prior to this evening had a number of tractability issues and if pushed in the early stages of the event is likely to break gait, so he was happy for the filly to roll along under its own steam until becoming balanced. Mr Towers further advised that the filly would now go for a spell.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Towers, Stewards determined to take no further action.

UPTOWN LAD– Pre-race blood sample.  Over raced when racing at the tail of the field in the early stages of the event before commencing to improve to the position outside the leader from the 1300 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Leigh Sutton with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages of the event to finish in sixth placing beaten 28 metres.  Mr Sutton advised Stewards that he believed the gelding had failed to settle in the early stages of the event and over raced, potentially half choking off. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering further submissions from trainer David Van Ryn, the gelding was given its last chance to race truly.  Post-race swab sample.
