The sprint lane was in operation at today’s event.
RACE 1 – CAROLYN JULL 2YO PACE (2185MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 2 – CON GALATI 3YO PACE (2185MS)
The field were turned away in the score-up as the lugging pole had become detached on DEVILISH GRIN (E. Johnson).
RACE 3 – RUSSELL EDDY 3YO PACE (2185MS)
IM ROCKIN ROD (K. Harper) – Broke gait shortly after the start. Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned as to why he went forward after losing ground at the start, Driver D. Harper explained that the gelding is very much one paced and with the moderate speed at that point he felt it was his only chance to put it into the race. The gelding which commenced to give ground in the back straight with 800m to run and was beaten 160m will be stood down from racing until such time as the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
POINTOPROVE (G. Schofield) – Reinsperson G. Schofield was fined $100 under R168(1)(a) for careless driving in that he contacted and punctured the offside sulky wheel tyre of SPEEDWAGON (K. Symington) racing in the back straight on the first occasion, SPEEDWAGON was retired from the event at this point.
RACE 4 – JAMES GIUMELLI FILLIES & MARES PACE (2185MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 5 – MARLENE KEIL PACE (2185MS)
Permission was given for LUCKY GALLEON NZ (D. Egerton-Green) to race bare in front after it had cast a shoe in its preliminary.
General: Stewards questioned Drivers G. Johnson (IM BIDDY) and K. Harper (MOTOR ON LILLY) as to the reason IM BIDDY broke gait near the 400m on the final occasion.
It was established that MOTOR ON LILLY (K. Harper) was being eased outwards to gain clear running and IM BIDDY which was racing to its outside did not respond to the efforts of the driver and go with the move of MOTOR ON LILLY.
Further, just prior to IM BIDDY breaking gait Driver G. Johnson had been applying pressure to his drive which then had a tendency to shift inwards and become unbalanced.
Driver G. Johnson was advised that in similar circumstances he may be best served to steady his drive.
RACE 6 – JANINE SCOTT PACE (2185MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 7 – GARRY SCOTT PACE (2631SS)
THE VERANDAH (L. Harper) – Galloped out from the barrier. A warning was issued.
CALL TO ARMS (D. Miller) – Utilised the sprint lane to win the race.
RACE 8 – TENILLE GREEN TROT (2682MS)
No racing incidents to report.
