RACE 1 – DOWNLOAD THE APP TODAY PACE – 2030 metres

ROCKNROLL TONY– Stewards queried driver T Ison in relation to the tactics adopted. Driver T Ison explained that in the early stages it was intention to move forward with CLASSIC ARC as he felt that it would have crossed in advance of SNEAKY PEAK however it became evident shortly after the start was effected with the speed that SNEAKY PEAK showed that this was unavailable and made a quick decision to restrain to gain cover. He further added that when restraining had a tendency to hang in at various stages of the event. Stewards noted that ROCKNROLL TONY was held up for clear running over the concluding stages and also issued a warning for hanging in after the start was effected.

SUNDAY SESH– Pre race sample was taken.

YELLOW TAXI NZ– Was examined pre and post race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.  Had a tendency to hang in rounding the final turn.

SUNNY TOWN– Was hampered rounding the final turn when racing to the inside of YELLOW TAXI which hung in momentarily and as a result raced inside the line of the marker pegs. At a subsequent inquiry driver S Rushbrook was fined the sum of $100 under rule 163(2) in that when racing inside the line of the marker pegs applied the whip and failed to restrain before returning to the course proper.

CASUAL RIVER- Was examined pre and post race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

HEZASHADOWPLAYA NZ– Post race sample was taken.

CASH EM IN SHANNON– Stewards queried driver Joe Taaffe in relation to the tactics adopted. Joe Taaffe explained that he felt that he would have superior speed in the early stages of the event to cross down to a marker peg position and take cover. He further added that there was more speed than anticipated in the early stages of the event and had to make some use of his drive to find the position along the marker pegs. He further added that after taking cover was quite comfortable in the run and was not overly disappointed in the performance given the early tempo. Stewards noted driver J Taaffe’s comments however believe he had erred somewhat in the pace that was shown in the early stages of the event and advised greater judgement needs to be shown in similar circumstances. Post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Driver B Lindsay was advised to take greater care in that when racing into the back straight on the first occasion reduced the tempo in the running line to a degree which hampered runners trailing. Broke stride free of interference as the field left the back straight on the final occasion. A warning was issued.

RACE 7 – THE FEATURE SWEEPSTAKES 2YO PACE – 1609 metres

TREACHEROUS HEART – Broke stride in the middle stages of the score up and regained gait to take its place on the mobile barrier. Stewards advised connections that it would be stood down until it can re – qualify on one occasion.

AMERICAN MANDY– Sustained a flat near side tyre as the field negotiated the final turn.

CRACKER BARREL– Galloped away as the start was effected. Connections were advised that given its recent record it would now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Had a tendency to race roughly at various stages of the event when trailing.

WALLAROY BOY– Was checked and broke stride as the field negotiated the final turn.

THE THUG NZ– Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for WALLAROY BOY breaking stride rounding the final turn. Upon review and taking evidence from all parties it was established that THE THUG NZ which commenced to shift wider on the track to move forward in the event failed to move forward from the event and may have closed back down the track with WALLAROY BOY progressing to its inside with limited room and as a result was checked and broke stride. Stewards could not lay blame on any horse or driver for the incident and advised drivers to take greater care in similar circumstances.
