GENERAL:

Trainer S Elliott was fined the sum of $500 under rule 190(1)(B) for failing to provide her logbook to stewards when requested at a stable inspection conducted on the 17th July 2022. In assessing penalty stewards took into account her plea of guilt and record in relation to the rule.

 

RACE 1 – THE TAB APP PACE – 2030 metres

STEALTH BOMBA NZ– Broke stride as the field entered the back straight on the first occasion. A warning was issued. Stewards questioned driver J Gallagher in relation to the tactics adopted when catching the field after galloping, his decision to move three wide. Josh Gallagher reported to stewards that when getting back onto the tail of the field the tempo in the event was quite slow and had a tendency to over race which resulted in contacting the sulky of PRODIGAL GUINNESS NZ and as a result moved to a three wide position and continued to over race to which at that point driver J Gallagher elected to move forward in an attempt to find the position outside of the leader however was unsuccessful and remained racing wide for the remainder of the event. Post race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.

SPORTY HARMS– Locked wheels with CUSTOM NIKE over the concluding stages.

HIDDEN DELIGHT– Was checked and raced roughly as the field entered the back straight on the first occasion. Post race sample was taken.

PRODIGAL GUINNESSNZ – Pre race sample was taken. Was hampered as the field raced into the back straight on the first occasion. Received contact to the off side wheel racing down the home straight with a lap remaining.

MISS VERSTAPPEN NZ– Was hampered as the field raced into the back straight on the first occasion. Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages.

CUSTOM NIKE– Locked wheels with SPORTY HARMS over the concluding stages.

CASHWRANGS SMOKER– Was checked as the field raced into the back straight on the first occasion.

 

RACE 2 – $10 BURGER & BEV PACE – 1609 metres

FOXY DADA – Raced roughly in the latter stages of the score up. A warning was issued. Was checked and raced roughly entering the first turn.

MYKINDOFFEELING- Post race sample was taken.

CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD– Broke stride approaching the first turn. Connections were advised that given its recent record it will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

CASH EM IN SHANNON– Pre race sample was taken.

NIFTY STUDLEIGH– Was hampered in the middle stages of the score up.

 

RACE 3 – XMAS IN JULY 2022 PACE – 1609 metres

SURFING CLEAR – Broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn free of interference. Connections were advised that given his poor recent record will now be stood down from racing for a period of 28 days and until the completion of four re – qualifying trials.

KUDOS MASON– Weakened over the concluding stages of the event to be beaten some distance. Driver B Hughes explained to stewards that it was the intentions to race with cover in the event however when SPUNKYS PLAYING UP presented in the early stages of the event, did not feel they were a suitable runner to trail and elected to hold the front to which in hindsight believed it was not suited to the early pressure in the event. Post race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards issued a warning against the performance.

MELS ACE– Driver J Gallagher was fined the sum of $100 under 170(1)(a) in that when driving out over the final 100 metres allowed his right foot to come adrift from the sulky footrest.

MAXINES DELIGHT- Pre race sample was taken.

HEADLINE HUNTER- Post race sample was taken.

MIKE ORR– Was hampered as the field negotiated the first turn.

 

RACE 4 – MEMBERS NIGHT 29 JULY 2022 PACE – 2030 metres

MAMMALS RIDDLE – Broke stride in the latter stages of the score up. A warning was issued. Had a tendency to over race in the early and middles stages of the event.

ABDICATE – Pre race sample was taken.

WAYOUTWEST - Post race sample was taken.

GOODTIME HERO– During the first attempt at a score up driver J Hughes raised his hand to indicate an issue with the gear. Upon review it was established that the rein burr on the near side had become entangled with the neck strap. Sustained a flat tyre as the field negotiated the final turn.

RUBY BABY – When shifting down the track and attempt to gain clear running prior to entering the home straight, contacted the near side wheel of GOODTIME HERO.

WHAT NOW SHANNON– Prior to the declaration of all clear, stewards viewed the start of the event to which it was established that after MAMMALS RIDDLE raced roughly during the score up was checked and raced roughly losing momentum and as a result driver B Elder raised his hand however the start was effected shortly thereafter. As such stewards were of the view that it had not gained a fair start and as a result was declared a non - runner in the field.

 

RACE 5 – SOMERSET MEATS PACE – 1609 metres

JOHNSON STEP NZ - Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event whilst leading. Post race sample was taken.

ZOLIVER- Pre race sample was taken. Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.

PLEASE SHUDDUP NZ– Broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn. A warning was issued.

 

RACE 6 – HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY NOAH FRAZER PACE – 1609 metres

CAPTAIN DAN NZ – Was placed in restricted room as the field entered the first turn.

VANISH HANOVER– Sustained contact to the off side wheel racing into the back straight on the final occasion resulting in a puncture.

YUKO NZ- Pre race sample was taken. Driver J Gallagher was reprimanded under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when closing down toward a marker peg position entering the first turn placed CAPTAIN DAN NZ in restricted room resulting in that runner being hampered. Post race sample was taken.

SIR SIMON– Contacted the off side wheel of VANISH HANOVER racing into the back straight on the first occasion. Driver K Bigeni was reprimanded under rule 168(1)(a) for carelessness at that stage. In not tacking more severe action stewards were mindful of the relative inexperience of driver K Bigeni.

 

RACE 7 – SLICK CHICKS PACE – 1609 metres

AVAIDEN– Held up for clear running in the latter stages of the run to the finish.

SILENT LEGEND– Pre race sample was taken. Contacted the barrier arm and broke stride in the latter stages of the score up resulting in a false start being declared. Connections were advised that it would be placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw. Stewards were mindful of the tempo of the mobile at that point. Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.

NEW TRICKS NZ– Had a tendency to hang in shortly after the start was effected. A warning was issued. Continued to hang in throughout various stages of the event. A further warning was issued for in running. Driver J Brown reported that the anti – choking device had shifted throughout the event to which he believed may have contributed to the horse’s tractability.

AUSTRALIANA– Was held up for clear running over the concluding stages and was not fully tested.

SILVER LADY NZ– Post race sample was taken.

 

RACE 8 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE – 1609 metres

WAR WESTERN – Had a tendency to race roughly as the field rounded the final turn. A warning was issued.

GOTTA RUSH– Driver S Rushbrook was cautioned in relation to the manner in which he applied the whip over the concluding stages. Post race sample was taken.

JACKAROO SHANNON- Pre race sample was taken.

 

RACE 9 – PFD FOOD SERVICES PACE – 1609 metres

PARABELLUM – Broke stride in the early stages of the score up and continued to gallop for some distance resulting in SARGE being hampered where a false start was declared. A warning was issued.

LURKING– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event. Stewards queried driver G Chapple in relation to the tactics and overall performance. G Chapple explained that after the false start, commenced to over race severely and when moving three wide had some concerns that it may have choked down however went to move back into that position, however it had been filled by BELLA BRONSKI and was left racing wide for the remainder and weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance. Stewards issued a warning against the overall performance.

CASUAL RIVER– Was examined pre and post race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

OUR BUSHWACKER– Was examined pre and post race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

SARGE – Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event and when racing down the home straight with a lap remaining shifted wider on the track away from the marker pegs which hampered the run of BELLA BRONSKI. Stewards cautioned driver K Bigeni in relation to the incident.

BELLA BRONSKI- Pre race sample was taken. Galloped away as the start was effected. A warning was issued. Was hampered as the field raced down the hoe straight with a lap remaining.

PRESTIGIACOMO– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.

YELLOW TAXI NZ– Was slow away as the start was effected.

SIANGDI – Was held up for clear running in the early stages of the run to the finish.

CORPORAL JUJON- Had a tendency to hang out whilst under pressure over the concluding stages. Post race sample was taken.

CHRISTIAN BROTHER NZ- Was examined pre and post race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

TONY SLOY- Pre race sample was taken. Broke stride as the field negotiated the final turn free of interference. A warning was issued.

 

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT:

 

17/06/22 - NEWCASTLE MEETING – Race 5 – CLUB MACQUARIE PACE – 2030 metres

Driver J Callaghan (HAZELNUTZ) was issued with a reprimand under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that when racing down the back straight on the first occasion closed down the track and restricted the racing room of GLENGARRY ROSE which was hampered.
