RACE 1 – CNW WARNERS BAY PACE – 1609 metres

SHAME TO FAME– Broke stride in the latter stages of the score up and checked the running of JUST HOME GROWN NZ resulting in a false start being declared.  A warning was issued.

KOWHAI BLAZE NZ– Post-race sample was taken.

R ELEVEN ART NZ– Pre-race sample was taken. 

TE QUIRO– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages.

 

RACE 2 – HRNSW GUARANTEED LADYSHIP PACE – 1609 metres

PATSY OTARA– Hampered as the field raced into the home straight on the first occasion.

TEAK NZ– Pre-race sample was taken. 

THE GOVERNESS NZ– Broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn and galloped for a considerable distance before regaining its gait.  Driver J Gallagher advised that shortly after the start the hopple shortener on the near side failed to release and when attempting to remedy that gear rounding the first turn the mare broke stride.  Given the distance in which it galloped Stewards ordered THE GOVERNESS NZ to be placed on its last chance to race truly.

SII SEMPRE TILLY– Post-race sample was taken.

THREE CHORD RIFF– Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

 

RACE 3 – CNW MAITLAND PACE – 1609 metres

YESNOMAYBESO– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages

FIFTEEN ACES– Pre-race sample was taken.

PELICAN FLY– Post-race sample was taken.

MARIKA SPRINGFIELD– Pulled hard in early and middle stages of the score up.

 

RACE 4 – CNW SUPER BIG ONE PACE – 1609 metres

CHEVRONS BYPASS NZ– Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

ULTRA BLISS– Driver T Callaghan was cautioned in relation to when racing into the home straight for the run to the finish shifted wider abruptly underneath JOHNSON STEP NZ which was racing to its outside which was momentarily hampered. 

LITTLE DEMON– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event whilst leading.  Post-race sample was taken.

JOHNSON STEP NZ– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages and was hampered shortly after entering the home straight for the run to the finish.

MAJOR PETRO– Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported. 

HAZELNUTS – Pre-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 5 – CLIPSAL ICONIC WARATAH HEAT – 1609 metres

MUSTANG MILLY– Post-race sample was taken.

BETTERTHANFEDERER – Pre-race sample was taken.  Had a tendency to over race leaving the back straight on the final occasion and raced up on to the back of THE TIGER ARMY and as a result was checked and broke stride.

THE TIGER ARMY– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.

ONE REASON– Broke stride upon entering the home straight on the first occasion and raced somewhat roughly for the remainder of the event to finish well back.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.  Connections were advised that it would be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ– Checked as the field negotiated the final turn.  Upon request from connections was re-included into the mobile barrier draw.

CAPTAIN DAN NZ– Stewards questioned driver S Grima in relation to the tactics adopted.  Driver S Grima advised that after finding a spot in the running line in the early stages of the event was further back than anticipated.  He further added that with THE TIGER ARMY progressing forward elected to move forward onto its back in an attempt to find a position outside of the leader however it became apparent that THE TIGER ARMY had a tendency to over race when without cover which left CAPTAIN DAN NZ three wide for the remainder.  Stewards noted his comments.

 

RACE 6 – CLIPSAL WISER HOME PACE – 1609 metres

LADY PEBBLES– Hampered inside the final 100 metres.

SUNDAY SESH– Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance.  Stewards queried driver A Bourke in relation to the tactics adopted. A Bourke explained to stewards that it was the intentions as instructed to go forward in the event and attempt to find the marker pegs. He further added that after beginning well MISS SERENDIPITY was able to muster through and maintain the lead position and when attempting to ease and find a marker peg positon on the leaders back the tempo eased and was left racing without cover in the running line. He further added that prior to entering the home straight on the first occasion again increased the tempo to possibly gain the lead or to open the field up to obtain the leaders back however again was unsuccessful.

A Bourke further explained that after the early pressure applied his drive commenced to over-race through the middle stages and raced on terms with the leader which in his opinion was the main contributing factor to the disappointing performance. Stewards noted his comments and advised that in the steward’s opinion he had erred in relation to the pressure he applied in the early stages of the event. Connections were also advised that SUNDAY SESH would be stood down until the completion of one re-qualifying trial.

ROCKNROLL TONY– Checked as the field left the back straight on the final occasion due to trailing weakening runners.

MYKINDOFFEELING– Pre-race sample was taken.

TO INFINITYNBEYOND– Driver R Atkins was reprimanded under rule 168(1)(a) in that when racing over the final 100 metres raced up onto the back of MISS SERENDIPITY which was weakening at that stage to which driver R Atkins was obliged to shift wider when racing wheel to wheel with LADY PEBBLES however given its momentum raced up inside of that runner to which was obliged to check back down the track and as a result broke stride.

CASUAL RIVER– Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

GENERAL – An inquiry was adjourned in relation to conduct revolving around trainer Chris Bourke, driver Andrew Bourke and also trainer Aaron Goadsby.

 

RACE 7 – CNW KANGA CUP PACE – 1609 metres

GENERAL– Stewards gave consideration to a protest which was lodged by driver B Hughes (PAYTONS ROCK NZ) second past the post against CUT GLASS NZ (M Callaghan) first past the post alleging interference over the concluding stages.  Upon taking evidence from all relevant parties and reviewing the patrol footage, Stewards acknowledged that CUT GLASS NZ did have a tendency to shift ground up the track whilst under pressure over the concluding stages however was not to the detriment of PAYTONS ROCK NZ as that runner in the view of the Stewards had not received any interference at that stage therefore the protest was dismissed and all clear on judges number.

MAJOR GNP NZ– Raced roughly in the middle stages of the score up.

CUT GLASS NZ– Had a tendency to shift ground up the track whilst under pressure over the concluding stages.  Post-race sample was taken.

BEATBOXER– Pre-race sample was taken. 

 

RACE 8 – CNW LAS VEGAS BOUND PACE – 1609 metres

HOME AND DRY NZ– Post-race sample was taken.

RINTIN– Momentarily restricted for racing room entering the first turn and contacted the sulky of SKYFALL BENCHMARK to which from that point SKYFALL BENCHMARK was restrained with RINTIN being dragged back to the rear of the field before making a three wide move to the position outside of the leader.

SKYFALL BENCHMARK– Placed in restricted room to the inside of STELLAS DELIGHT NZ entering the first turn and closed down the track into the running of RINTIN as a result the near side sulky wheel was contacted resulting in a puncture to which SKYFALL BENCHMARK was restrained out of the contest.

AMERICAN KESTREL– Broke stride in the early stages of the score up and was out of position as the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

CLASSIC ARC– Pre-race sample was taken. 

WALLAROY BOY– Hampered in the early stages of the score up.

 

RACE 9 – CNW & CLIPSAL BIG GAME PACE – 1609 metres

RABY BAY– Broke stride shortly after the start was affected.  Connections were advised that it will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

JUST FEELNGOOD– Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.   Driver E Nichols was fined the sum of $200 under rule 156(2)(a) in that when applying the whip over the concluding stages did so in an unapproved manner.

IRE OF THE DRAGON– Driver R Vernon pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when entering the first turn he closed down the track and restricted the racing room of NIFTY STUDLEIGH resulting in that running a position to which the Stewards believed it was entitled in the running line.  Mr Vernon’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 10 days.  When considering penalty Stewards took into account his record in relation interference.

EAGLE UNO– Pre-race sample was taken.

NASHOLI– Checked and broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn.

BIG TIME HUSTLER– Hampered shortly after the start was affected.  Checked and broke stride as the field negotiated the first turn.

NIFTY STUDLEIGH– Placed in restricted room as the field approached the first turn and lost its position in the running line to which Stewards believed it was entitled.  Shortly thereafter had a tendency to hang in placing BIG TIME HUSTLER in restricted room and when corrected shifted outwards and checked the running of NASHOLI which was checked and broke stride.  Post-race sample was taken.
