GENERAL: Prior to the declaration of All Clear, stewards reviewed the film in relation to LITTLE DEMON racing inside marker pegs leaving the 400 metres. After taking evidence from driver B Lindsay and trainer G Lewis and reviewing the available patrol footage, it was established that when leaving the back straight on the final occasion GROSESTAR had shifted up the track to which stewards were satisfied that a run had become available to the inside of GROSESTAR to progress into. Then as the field negotiated the final turn GROSESTAR drifted back down the track slightly which restricted the racing room of LITTLE DEMON which was also racing intractably at that stage and as such was obliged to race inside the line of three marker pegs. It was further ascertained that when racing inside the line of the marker pegs B Lindsay had not driven her horse forward at that point and had shifted LITTLE DEMON back outside of the marker pegs at her first available opportunity. After considering all the available evidence inclusive of the official films stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that there was insufficient racing room to the inside of GROSESTAR nor that LITTLE DEMON had gained an unfair advantage and as such declared All Clear on the judges numbers 9-2-10-1.

THE TIGER ARMY – Trainer R Roots Jnr was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare driver E Chapple by the prescribed time.

OVERTHEMOON – Improved three wide from the 1200 meters until obtaining the position outside of the lead approaching the 1000 meters.

STARZZZ REIGN – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected. A warning was issued.

MISS SERENA – Broke gait during the middle stages of the score up. A warning was issued. Approaching the 1200 meters shifted in momentarily as a result, LITTLE DEMON was placed in restricted room at that stage.

ONE REASON – Pre-race blood sample. Trainer R Roots Jnr was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare driver R Morris by the prescribed time. Stewards queried driver R Morris in relation to the tactics employed in the event. Mr Morris stated that he had received instructions from trainer R Roots Jnr to drive the mare conservatively and look to restrain and obtain cover in the early stages. Mr Morris added that, when he assessed the race he believed there to be good early speed from the runners drawn to his inside and as such was not surprised with the instructions he had received, however identified that at its most previous start the mare was driven positively in the early stages. Mr Morris explained that, in his opinion the circumstances were different in today’s event as the field was stronger compared to last start. Mr Morris further stated that, his runner was disappointing in the event and failed to quicken when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. The inquiry was adjourned with a date and time to be fixed, to afford stewards an opportunity to question trainer R Roots Jnr in relation to the tactics provided.

IM QUICK AS FIRE NZ – Completed a pre-race warm up prior to competing.

LITTLE DEMON – Approaching the 1200 meters was placed in restricted room momentarily when MISS SERENA shifted in at that stage. Had a tendency to over-race during the middle stages of the event.
