RACE 1 – NATIONAL TROTGUIDE PACE – 1609 metres

JUST FEELNGOOD – Passing the 100 meters was impeded momentarily and had to be steadied wider when MY CLASSY MATE commenced to shift out under pressure.

JAYTEES HAT – Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line leaving the 1100 meters.

RORY MCLORY – Stewards questioned driver B Bates in relation to the tactics adopted in the event, in particular from a point passing the 1100 meters when electing to improve three wide. Mr Bates explained that during the early stages of the second quarter the tempo had eased noticeably and his runner was resenting being restrained at that stage therefore attempted to improve three wide to the position outside of the leader. Mr Bates added that when improving three wide his runner failed to accelerate in the manner he was anticipating and once the gelding had improved to the outside of RONZEL GRINNER approaching the 900 meters the driver of that runner indicated that the position was no longer available, and as a result was caught racing three wide. Mr Bates stated that given the distance remaining in the event, it was not beneficial to restrain towards the rear of the field and continued to race three wide for the remainder. Mr Bates explained that the gelding had commenced to give ground over the final 500 meters, however thought the performance was credible given the amount of work his runner did in relation to the field and the beaten margin from the winner. Stewards noted his comments.

MY CLASSY MATE – Driver D Morgan was issued a reprimand under rule 162(1)(www)(a) in that, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent MY CLASSY MATE from shifting ground in the early stages of the run to the finish, as a result JUST FEELNGOOD was impeded at that stage when improving to the outside.  Post-race swab sample.

RONZEL GRINNER – Pre-race blood sample.

LAKER – Had a tendency to over-race throughout the early and middle stages of the event.

ALEX TEE – Had a tendency to over-race throughout the early and middle stages of the event.

RACE 2 – TAB.COM.AU PACE – 1609 metres

ALASKAN BOY – Driver B Greenwood was fined the sum of $50 under rule 162(1)(i) for failing to have the gelding in position by the nominated marker.  Commenced to weaken over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance.

AVAIDEN – Pre-race blood sample. Commenced to weaken over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance. Stewards questioned driver J Gallagher in relation to the below market performance of the gelding ($4.20) when finishing in ninth position beaten 35.9 meters. Mr Gallagher stated that after obtaining the lead in the early stages he was then challenged for the lead by PLAYBOY SHADOW in the middle stageswhich caused his runner to exert more energy than he was anticipating to do at that stage. Mr Gallagher explained that the pressure sustained in the middle stages was the main contributing factor for the gelding weakening over the concluding stages. Mr Gallagher added that he believed the gelding had run to its recent form given the winning mile rate of the event, and that his runners recent from had not warranted the market price. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards noted his comments.

LAYLALOU – Inconvenienced behind the tiring AVAIDEN between the 600 meters and the 400 meters. 

PLAYBOY SHADOW – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1200 meters.

POWER TO BOLT – Pre-race blood sample.

ROSARITO ROCK – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line passing the 1200 meters.

CHRISTIAN SHANNON – Post-race swab sample.

RACE 3 – GARRARD’S HORSE & HOUND MAIDEN PACE – 2030 metres

WILLROBY – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

BETTORS BEYOND – Post-race swab sample.

SWEETLY SPOKEN – Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line approaching the 1600 meters.

TEAK NZ – Inclined to hang out in the middle stages of the score up.

CARIBBEAN SPICE – Worked forward to obtain the lead leaving the 1700 meters.

LADYFEELGOOD – Pre-race blood sample. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

RACE 4 – PSC INSURANCE BROKERS PACE – 1609 metres

TACKAS LAST DANCE – Driver G Panella pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) for unapproved whip use in that, whilst applying the whip over the concluding stages she did so in manner not considered to be a wrist only flicking motion. When assessing penalty consideration was given to, Ms Panella’s recent record along with her guilty plea. G Panella was fined the sum of $200. Post-race swab sample.

PARBELLUM – Momentarily locked wheels with RINTIN rounding the final turn.

ADAMS IT – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line passing the 1100 meters.

JEFFCOATE – Approaching the 50 meters was inclined to race roughly when placed under pressure. A warning was issued.

RINTIN – Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line leaving the 1100 meters.

KUDOS MASON – Approaching the 50 meters had to be steadied away from BIG TIME HUSTLER which was shifting up the track at that stage.

BEIDERBECKE – Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line passing the 1100 meters. A post-race veterinary exam failed to reveal any abnormalities.

BIG TIME HUSTLER – Driver B Lindsay was advised to exercise greater care in that, when approaching the 50 meters she had permitted her runner to shift wider on the track and race inside the line of KUDOS MASON which had to be steadied at that stage.

RACE 5 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 1609 metres

CASUAL RIVER – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRNSW’s welfare policy. No abnormalities were reported.

ROCKNROLL TONY – Pre-race blood sample.

NIGHTWATCH STAR – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line leaving the 1200 meters.

GALIANT NIGHT – Commenced to weaken over the final 400 meters to be beaten 55.6 meters. Stewards queried driver S Rushbrook in relation to the driving tactics and overall performance of the gelding. Ms Rushbrook explained that the pre-race instructions given by trainer J Carroll were to attempt and gain the lead in the early stages and if unsuccessful work forward to try and obtain the lead. Ms Rushbrook explained that although challenging for the lead in the early stages, she had yielded her attempt leaving the 1200 meters. Ms Rushbrook added that her runner does not appreciate being restrained, and as such allowed the gelding to continue under its own steam throughout the middle stages. Ms Rushbrook stated that the first half recorded in 57.6 seconds was within the gelding’s capabilities given its recent form and was expecting her runner to finish the race in a competitive manner. Ms Rushbrook added that the gelding was disappointing in the event and that she was expecting a more forward showing in the race. After considering the circumstances and the recent record of the gelding, GALIANT NIGHT was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.

RACE 6 – PITCHER PARTNERS NEWCASTLE PACE – 2000 metres

BEATBOXER – Post-race swab sample.

BIG SHADOW – Trainer K Morris was fined the sum of $50 under rule 268A(1) for failing to lodge a gear form for the colt. Became unbalanced and broke gait shortly after the start. Due to the colt having its second race start, connections were advised BIG SHADOW would now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw. Approaching the 200 meters became unbalanced and broke gait. Due to the colt having its second race start, BIG SHADOW was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.

BROOKLYN RAINBOW – Driver G Chapple was issued a reprimand under rule 170(1)(a) in that, when approaching the 400 meters he had allowed his right foot to drop below the foot rests when activating gear for a short distance. Approaching the 200 meters became unbalanced and broke gait. After considering the recent record of the filly, BROOKLYN RAINBOW was stood down to one re-qualifying trial.

CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, restraining towards the rear of the field to obtain a position in the running line approaching the 1100 meters.

HASLER – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 7 – AVE TECHNOLOGIES PACE – 1609 meters

GENERAL: During the latter stages of the first attempt to score up KUDOS ALBERTINA became unbalanced, raced roughly and subsequently blundered and fell which in turn dislodged driver G Panella from the sulky. KUDOS ALBERTINA then became entangled within its own gear and the race was ordered to a stop as the field rounded the first turn. KUDOS ALBERTINA was then examined by the veterinarian on track which revealed that the filly had sustained lacerations to both fore knees and was declared a late scratching at 4:45pm on veterinary advice. Driver G Panella was assessed by the on course paramedics who reported that she was displaying swelling in the right knee. G Panella was stood down from all future driving engagements pending a medical clearance. Prior to the re-run of the event all other runners were inspected by the on course veterinarian and passed fit to start, whilst all other drivers were interviewed by stewards and content to proceed with the running of race 7. A track inspection was conducted and subsequently repairs were made prior to the re-run. Race 7 was re-scheduled to run at 4:55pm.

UNSULLY – Pre-race blood sample. In the second running of the event, driver J Coney was issued a reprimand under rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that, when leaving the 300 meters she had shifted her runner wider on the track without the required clearance over CASH EM IN SHANNON resulting in UNSULLY contacting the off side wheel of that runner and subsequently was checked and raced roughly for a short distance. In not taking more severe action stewards were mindful that the incident had not detrimentally impacted either runner.

CASH EM IN SHANNON – In the second running of the event, sustained contact to the offside wheel leaving the 300 meters.

KUDOS ALBERTINA – In the first running of the event, blundered and fell at the start. After consideration, connections were advised KUDOS ALBERTINA would now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw, and be stood down to one re-qualifying trial. A post-race veterinary exam revealed the filly had further sustained lesions to the near side stifle and off side shoulder in addition to the lacerations on both fore knees. As such the on course veterinarian treated KUDOS ALBERTINA with an anti-inflammatory and bandages were applied to the wounds. Acting on veterinary advice KUDOS ALBERTINA was stood down for a period of 14 days in addition to, requiring a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to returning to race.

BOOMER ROCK – In the second running of the event, caught racing three wide in the early and middle stages prior to, working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader approaching the 1000 meters. Passing the 300 meters became unbalanced and broke gait. After considering the gelding’s recent record, BOOMER ROCK was stood down for a period of 28 days in addition to, the completion of four re-qualifying trials prior to returning to race.

JACKEROO SHANNON – Pre-race blood sample. In the second running of the event, caught racing three wide in the early stages prior to, working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader approaching the 1200 meters.

RACE 8 –TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE – 1609 meters

MAXINES DELIGHT – Pre-race blood sample. Driver J Osborn pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 156(2)(a) for unapproved whip use in that, whilst applying the whip over the concluding stages she did so in manner not considered to be a wrist only flicking motion. When assessing penalty consideration was given to, Mr Osborn’s recent record along with his guilty plea. J Osborn was fined the sum of $200. Post-race swab sample.

MARIKA SPRINGFIELD – Post-race swab sample.

STEALH BOMBA NZ – Broke gait in the latter stages of the score up and consequently was out of position at the start. A warning was issued.

MIKE ORR – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

ITSALLABOUTJACK – Had a tendency to over-race throughout the early and middle stages of the event.

DONEDEAL – Trainer D Caffyn was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare B Hughes as the driver by the prescribed time. Had a tendency to race roughly when rounding the first turn. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event prior to, working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader approaching the 1000 meters.

STELLAS DELIGHT NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

WUNDERLAND – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

IRE OF THE DRAGON – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

RACE 9 – SHARP OFFICE PACE – 2030 meters

FIFTEEN ACES – Pre-race blood sample. Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian in accordance with HRNSW’s welfare policy. No abnormalities were reported. Driver N Xuereb pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that, when approaching the 100 meters he had permitted his runner to shift wider when insufficiently clear of ROCKTAGONAL which was racing to the outside, as a result ROCKTAGONAL sustained contact to the near side hind leg and was subsequently checked and raced roughly for a short distance. When assessing penalty consideration was given to, Mr Xuereb’s guilty plea, his overall driving record and the degree of interference. N Xuereb’s license to drive in races was suspended for a period of 14 days commencing midnight 04/08/2022.

YUKO NZ – Post-race swab sample

WHAT NOW SHANNON – Broke gait in the latter stages of the score up and consequently was out of position at the start. A warning was issued.

ROCKTAGONAL – Improved three wide from the 1200 meters until obtaining the position outside of the leader approaching the 900 meters. Checked and raced roughly approaching the 100 meters as a result of, FIFTEEN ACES shifting wider at that stage.

PLEASE SHUDDUP NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Had a tendency to over-race throughout the early and middle stages of the event.
