Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – GRAFTON ELECTRICS 3YO PACE (1780MS)
Stewards held up the All Clear and advised patrons to hold all tickets after the driver of RELLIM, (D. Miller) requested to view the official patrol film. After reviewing the film Mr Miller lodged a protest against 1st place ROLLINDOWNTHERIVER (S. McDonald) alleging interference racing into the back straight on the final occasion, specifically that he was forced wide by that runner. Stewards after considering all evidence presented, dismissed the protest and found that while RELLIM had been forced to cover more ground just prior to the ease out pole, ROLLINDOWNTHERIVER remained in advance of RELLIM after the pole and was entitled to shift the colt wider thereafter and would not have been forced to remain in the one wide line. Further, the extra ground the colt would have covered was minor and given the 5-metre margin between the two runners, Stewards were not satisfied that had the interference not occurred that RELLIM would have beaten ROLLINDOWNTHERIVER.
Stewards cautioned Driver S. McDonald (ROLLINDOWNTHERIVER) and advised him to ensure in future that he must make sure he reaches the ease out pole comfortably prior to shifting ground in future race starts.
RACE 2 – WHITTINGTON ELECTRICAL FILLIES & MARES PACE (2190MS)
This race was delayed by approximately 5 minutes after JADES FORTUNE (D. Miller) broke its near side spreader in the preliminary and this had to be replaced.
JADES FORTUNE (D. Miller) – Inconvenienced behind tiring runners racing into the front straight on the final occasion.
RACE 3 – WINPRO ELECTRICAL PACE (1780MS)
This race was delayed by approximately 4 minutes after a false start was declared on the first occasion when LILLY LAGUNA (P. Miller) broke gait and inconvenienced WATCH THE STARTS (T. Wheeler).
TIGER TOAST (K. Symington) – Inconvenienced behind a tiring runner racing into the front straight on the final occasion.
WATCH THE STARS (T. Wheeler) – Broke gait racing in the front straight on the final occasion. Will be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until such time as the completion of 1 satisfactory re-qualifying trial.
LILLY LAGUNA (P. Miller) – Broke gait in the score-up and caused a false start. Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
Trainer P. Miller was reprimanded under R238 for failing to advise Stewards of his tactics for dual runners in this event.
RACE 4 – VERLINDEN ELECTRICAL PACE (2190MS)
SLEEK AND SWEET (D. Harper) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind and near fore. Trainer T. Allington was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness would need to be produced prior to racing or trialling again. Trainer further advised the mare would go for a short let up.
RACE 5 – VINCELEC PACE (2620MS)
MISTA EDITORIAL NZ (K. Symington) – Stewards questioned Driver K. Symington for the reasons he shifted from the peg line in the early stages to a position in the moving line racing out of the back straight on the first occasion. Driver K. Symington put forward that he didn’t think the gelding had a strong sprint and given the slow pace through the early sections, elected to shift wider and increase the tempo of the race. Stewards noted Mr Symington’s comments.
RACE 6 – SKEETS ELECTRICAL PACE (1780MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 7 – DRACO AIR PACE (2190MS)
On inquiry Driver S. Steele (MANGO TANGO) was reprimanded for driving in a careless manner in allowing his drive to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of BOLD JACKIE (K. Harper) racing to his inside causing that runner to be held tight and contact several marker posts.
MIDWIFE CALLING (D. Harper) – Checked and broke gait racing out of the back straight on the first occasion.
MANGO TANGO (S. Steele) – Broke gait after the start was affected. Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
