STEWARDS REPORT FOR TABCORP PARK MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM METROPOLITAN PACE FINAL (GROUP 3) (1720 MS)

Soextra (barrier 11) broke gait during the early stages of the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

Major Major gave ground over the final 400m to finish in 10th position beaten 43.7m.

Foolish Pleasure was held up on approach to the home straight when positioned behind the weakening Major Major.

Rounding the final turn, Messerati hung in and was inconvenienced at the top of the home straight as a result of Major Major shifting slightly wider whilst giving ground to its inside.

Approaching the home straight on the final occasion, Drain The Swamp hung in and contacted a number of marker pegs prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Allshookup was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

RACE 2 DNR LOGISTICS PACE (2240 MS)

Entering the first turn, Shes A Hovercraft was crowded when positioned between runners and to the inside of Dancing Finn which shifted down the track slightly prior to being corrected by its driver.

Dougs Babe and Eva Mateo both pulled hard during the middle stages of the event.

Eva Mateo was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

RACE 3 – MIMOSA HOMES TROT (2240 MS)

One Over All NZ (barrier 12) broke gait shortly after the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Beau Garcon raced keenly during the middle stages as a result of Aldebaran Tess NZ improving three wide to its outside.

Aldebaran Tess NZ broke gait on two occasions during the event (1100m and 500m). Given the mare’s recent performances Aldebaran Tess NZ was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to its left hind pastern with no stand down or further action required.

Majestic Chick NZ was held for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Chris Svanosio, the driver of Brandlo Prince, was reminded of his obligations subject to Rule 162(1)(z) and advised that he must ensure that he fully tests his runners to the end of the race and particularly when in a position to place. In taking no direct action stewards did not find that the actions of Mr Svanosio had cost him a position.

RACE 4 – TAB SAPLING STAKES (2YO COLTS & GELDINGS) (1720 MS)

Dougs Platter (barrier 5) hung out during the score up.

Damian Wilson, the driver of Will He Reign (barrier 4) was cautioned for failing to maintain his position on the mobile barrier by the starting point.

Heathbern Bruce (barrier 6) began badly when galloping away and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Little Louie raced keenly during the middle stages and improved on to the back of Shades Of Louie near the 1100m.

Passing the 500m, Heathbern Bruce hung in and broke gait free of interference and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

Shades Of Louie was held up for clear running rounding the final turn and on the entry to the home straight, contacted marker pegs prior to utilising the sprint lane. Laura Crossland, the driver of Shades Of Louie, was cautioned for contacting marker pegs.

Rupert Ross hung in on the entry to the home straight and contacted marker pegs.

RACE 5 - MELTON CENTRALS FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB PACE (1720 MS)

Crime Writer was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of a reported major injury following the gelding’s previous preparation. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Yankee Gold NZ pulled hard during the middle stages.

Major Manbar pulled hard throughout the event.

Yankee Gold NZ hung in when placed under pressure over the finals stages.

Crime Writer was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and also over the concluding stages.

Rick Reilly NZ and Captain Confetti NZ were both held up for clear running for the entire length of the home straight and was not fully tested.

RACE 6 – IRT AUSTRALIA PACE (2240 MS)

High Flying Harry NZ (barrier 5) was fractious during the early stages of the score up.

Urus NZ pulled hard during the middle stages.

Greg Sugars, the driver of Chubby Checker NZ ($3.50 fav) which finished in 9th position beaten 24.8m, explained that he had made use of his gelding from inside the second line draw to maintain his position on the back of Tuppence and following the early use, Chubby Checker NZ raced keenly, failed to settle and this had contributed into the gelding performance. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any significant findings other than a Grade 1 EIPH with no stand down to be applied. Stewards will follow up with connections as to the gelding’s post-race recovery.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 1/6/2022

Jess Tubbs, trainer of Chubby Checker NZ advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on May 28 2022, that the gelding had recovered well.  Ms.Tubbs stated that Chubby Checker NZ would continue with the current preparation. 

RACE 7 – TAB BOLD DAVID FREE FOR ALL (2240 MS)

Bernie Winkle NZ was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the gelding racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Code Black NZ hung in and contacted marker pegs when yielding ground rounding the final turn.

Im  No Outlaw NZ was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Bernie Winkle NZ was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Khaki Nui NZ broke gait when placed under pressure near the 100m for a short distance.  Prior to the declaration of all clear stewards reviewed the gelding breaking gait and found that its driver Daryl Douglas and Khaki Nui NZ had met their obligations by way of restraining and losing ground and consequently gained no advantage to the detriment of other runners. In view of these findings stewards declared the all clear.

RACE 8 – PRYDES EASIFEED 3YO PACE (2240 MS)

Near the 1400m and after challenging for the lead, Relentless Me was eased by its driver Jack Laugher and in doing so broke gear, lost control of the filly and alerted the clerks for assistance. As the field preceded into the home straight, Relentless Me raced forward of the main body of the field uncontrolled. As the field approached the back straight on the final occasion, the Clerk of the Course approached Relentless Me and took control of the filly near the 500m. Following the completion of the event, Stewards delayed the all-clear to review the patrol vision and interviewed all relevant drivers regarding any impediment caused by the Clerk of the Course in its efforts to take control of Relentless Me. As it was established that the field were unable to compete for an extended distance and this had an effect into the integrity of the race, Stewards ordered that Race 8 be declared a no-race. Following the announcement, Stewards reviewed the broken gear (snaffle bit) and found it to be of suitable quality and condition with no obvious reasons for the break. Consequently no further action was taken.

A post-race veterinarian examination of Major Annie NZ revealed the filly to be suffering the thumps and acting on veterinarian advice was stood down for a period of 10 days.

RACE 9 – LOGICAL STAFFING SOLUTIONS PACE (1720 MS)

Majaliner was presented on-course 4 hours prior to the starting time for Race 9 as a result of the gelding being listed on the elevated TCO2 listing.

Madeeba (barrier 6) broke gait during the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

Ryan Sanderson, the driver of Gobsmacked (barrier 7), was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position by the starting point resulting in his gelding being out of position at the start.

Amillion Promises was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Dont Need An Excuse NZ was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

RACE 10 – ALDEBARAN PARK SWEETHEART TROT FINAL (2240 MS)

Tetra gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 10th position, beaten 48.6m

Near the 500m Beautiful Sunrise broke gate free of interference and was issued a warning.

Anthony Butt, the driver of Aldebaran Misty ($6.50) which finished in 9th position beaten 42.8m, explained that he was disappointed in the run given the run in transit when able to lead however he did note that following the event the filly made an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinarian examination including an endoscopic examination, revealed and epidotic entrapment with no stand down to be applied. Stewards will follow up with connections regarding the filly’s prognosis and in addition the immediate racing plans.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 1/6/2022

Geoff Webster, trainer of Aldebaran Misty advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on May 28 2022, that the filly had recovered well and would now be given a short break from racing. 

RACE 11 – GARRARDS PACE (1720 MS)

Believe In Forever was inconvenienced after the start when shifting away from Sassyola (barrier 6) which hung in.

Neanger Guy pulled hard whilst positioned outside of the leader.

Clem Mcardle was held up for clear running in the early and latter stages of the event.

Amore Rock, which was caught wide rounding the first turn before being restrained during the middle stages, gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 9th position beaten 50.8m. Given the run in transit no direct action was taken against the gelding for its finishing position.

Near the 300m Neanger Guy was taken slightly wider by Clem Mcardle which shfted out slightly resulting in Sassyola and Believe In Forever coming together and was inconvenienced. Following review stewards determined that this incident was not as a result of any careless driving and noted that Neanger Guy NZ had over-reacted to the movement from Clem Mcardle.

Sassyola was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to the event after being nominated and declared to race the night following at Cranbourne.
