Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 DNR LOGISTICS PACE (2240 MS)

Musztang (John Caldow) approaching the 1800m broke its first nearside carrying strap resulting in the gelding stepping out of its hopple. Musztang was subsequently retired from the event a short distance latter.

Mister McLintock NZ (Michael Stanley) was inconvenienced when Musztang was being eased out of the event passing 1700m.

Urus NZ (Jayden Brewin) & Hayden Bromac NZ (Nathan Jack) were both held up during the early stages of the home straight prior to obtaining clear running.

Kerryn Manning, trainer/driver of The Kingsman NZ ($4.80) which finished in 10th position beaten 14.2m after racing outside the leader from the 1800m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Ms Manning contributed the performance to the gelding racing without cover with a quicker than average lead time and overall quick mile rate recorded. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 1 EIPH.

RACE 2 GRAEME MAHER MEMORIAL TROT (2240 MS)

Kyvalley Clichy (Anthony Butt) hung inward approaching the 200m and contacted marker pegs.

Humble Ladd NZ (Alex Ashwood) was held up during the early stages of the home straight prior to obtaining clear running.

Greg Sugars, driver of One Over All NZ ($3.20 Fav) which finished in 7th position beaten 20.1m after racing behind the leader from the 1600m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Sugars advised the gelding to be disappointing and may have come to end of its preparation. Mr Sugars added the stable would spell One Over All NZ. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 2 EIPH.

Anthony Butt, driver of Kyvalley Clichy ($5.00) which finished in 8th position beaten 20.9m after leading from the 1600m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Butt contributed the performance to Kyvalley Clichy enduring more work than expected during the early stages of the event along with the quicker than average lead time being recorded which were the main combinations into the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 2 EIPH.

Ross Payne, driver of Chief Runningcloud pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 165(1)(b) the particulars of the charge being entering the first turn he permitted Chief Runningcloud to shift in when not one (1) metre clear of the extended front legs of Beau Garcon (Nathan Jack) causing Beau Garcon being taken inwards and forced over the line of  several marker pegs and having to be checked by its driver, losing its rightful racing position to the inside of Chief Runningcloud. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the relevant considerations as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines placing particular weight on Mr Payne’s guilty plea along with the low degree of carelessness & interference. Mr Payne’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 2 weeks which was deemed to commence midnight 29th June 2022.

RACE 3 – GRAEME MAHER MEMORIAL TROT (2240 MS)

David Murphy, trainer/driver of Final Peace ($34.00) which finished in 7th position beaten 50.8m after leading was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare which yielded ground from the 400m. Mr Murphy contributed the performance to the quicker than average lead time and overall mile rate. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations revealed the mare displaying Grade 3 EIPH. In accordance with the HRV EIPH Endoscopic Examination Policy Final Peace will now be stood down from racing for a period of twenty-eight (28) days a veterinary clearance and trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

Anthony Butt, driver of Let It Linga ($126.00) which finished in 8th position beaten 64.8m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare which yielded ground from the 500m. Mr Butt contributed the performance to the mare being up significantly in grade compared to recent starts along with quicker than average lead time and overall mile rate. A warning was issued against the mare’s racing competitiveness. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 2 EIPH.

Richard Brosnan, trainer/driver of Vincenzina ($13.00) which finished in 9th and last position beaten 75.4m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare which yielded ground from the 500m. Mr Brosnan advised the mare pulled extremely hard during the early & middle stages of the event which was the main reason in Vincenzina yielding ground. A warning was issued against the mare’s racing competitiveness. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4 – IRT AUSTRALIA MATRIARCH TROT (GROUP 2) (2240 MS)

At the request of trainer Anne-Maree Conroy Aldebaran Belle NZ will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

Elegant Peak NZ (Nathan Jack) yielded ground from the 800m to finish in 9th and last position beaten 66.5m. A warning was issued against the mare’s racing competitiveness.

Glen Craven, driver of Imamaorijet ($8.00) which finished in 7th position beaten 15.3m after leading was queried into the overall performance of the mare. Mr Craven advised Imamaorijet to be disappointing over the concluding stages and attributed the performance to the mare enduring work during the early stages of the event to obtain the lead and may have not backed up from racing seven (7) days prior. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities.                                                                                      

RACE 5 - VHRC CADUCEUS METROPOLITAN PACE FINAL (GROUP 3) (2240 MS)

Mr Perfect NZ (Nathan Jack) hung inwards upon straightening and contacted a marker peg.

Rocknroll Runa (Jackson Painting) was held up for clear running during the early stages of the home straight.

Something Bettor (James Herbertson) failed to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight.

Mark Pitt, driver of Delightful Angel was found guilty of a charge under AHR Rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to his drive from the 200m onwards with more than a wrist flicking motion and with overt force. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the relevant considerations as outlined within the HRV Stewards Minimum Penalty Guidelines along with this was Mr Pitt’s third offence under this rule within the past twenty-eight (28) days. Mr Pitt’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 2 weeks commencing midnight 25th June 2022.

RACE 6 – PCFA CRITICAL CATCH PACE (1720 MS)

Glenn Douglas, Stable representative for Juile Douglas trainer of Ozzie Playboy ($12.00) which finished in 6th position beaten 22.3m after racing behind the leader for majority of the event was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Douglas advised the gelding has a tendency not to race in a genuine manner. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities.  

RACE 7 – TAB BLACKS A FAKE FREE FOR ALL (1720 MS)

Rackemup Tigerpie (Michael Stanley) hung inwards and contacted a marker peg approaching the 200m.

RACE 8 – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE KEITH FREEMAN PACE (2240 MS)

Cherokke Joe was declared a late scratching at 2:35pm acting on veterinary advice.

Captain Confetti NZ (Abbey Turnbull) broke gait clear of interference approaching the 1900m.

Mighty Flying Art NZ (Jayden Brewin) pulled hard throughout the event prior to yielding ground from the 400m to finish in 8th and last position beaten 51.4m. A warning was issued against the geldings racing competitiveness.

RACE 9 DYNAMIC PRINT GROUP 2YO PACE (1720 MS)

Lizzy Mac (Glen Craven) broke gait momentarily during the early stages of the score up. A warning was issued against the filly’s barrier manners.

Lizzy Mac broke gait clear of interference passing the 700m. Lizzy Mac will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion. In taking this action stewards were mindful the filly was placed on its last chance to race truly three (3) starts prior on the 30th May 2022.

Michael Stanley, trainer/driver of Soho Lumine ($5.00) which finished in 5th position 22.8m after racing behind the leader for majority of the event was queried into the overall performance of the filly. Mr Stanley advised Soho Lumine to be disappointing over the concluding stages in particular hanging inwards which he felt to be an underlying issue with the filly with possible shin soreness. Mr Stanley advised he would monitor the filly in the ensuring days and consult with connections in regards to Soho Lumine current preparation. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 1 EIPH. Michael Stanley will be contacted in the coming days relative to the progress of the filly subsequent to the event.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 29 JUNE 2022

Michael Stanley, trainer of Soho Lumine advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on June 25 2022, that the filly was shin sore in the off side foreleg.  Mr.Stanley stated Soho Lumine has now been sent for a spell.
