STEWARDS REPORT FOR TABCORP PARK MELTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 DNR LOGISTICS PACE (1720 MS)

Reactor Factor (Darryl Lawlor) was held up around the final turn as Thomas Heights yielded ground quickly resulting in the gelding being inconvenienced and to break gait upon straightening.

Magic Mike NZ (Jack Laugher) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Andy Gath, trainer of Thomas Heights ($4.40) which yielded ground from the 300m and finish in 10th and last position beaten 54.4m after leading was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Gath advised the gelding to be disappointing and was at a loss to explain the performance. Mr Gath advised Thomas Heights would now be spelled. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 2 EIPH

RACE 2 ALDEBARAN PARK TROT (2240 MS)

Peakz Luck (Kate Gath) was held up approaching the 300m prior to obtaining clear running.

Greg Sugars, driver of One Over All NZ ($2.50 fav) which finished in 5th position beaten 17.6m after leading from the 1100m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Sugars contributed the performance to combination of the gelding having not raced for three (3) weeks and enduring work during the middle stages to obtain the lead. Mr Sugars added One Over All NZ would derive benefit from the performance.

RACE 3 – BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS 3YO PACE (2240 MS)

Bet On The Tiger NZ (Ellen Tormey) hung outwards after start was effected. A warning was issued against the geldings starting manners.

Bet On The Tiger NZ & Ira Poole NZ (Anthony Butt) pulled hard throughout the event.

Ashleigh Markham, driver of Codename Marcus was issued a caution for the manner he shifted ground passing the 400m which inconvenienced Cobber (Ryan Sanderson)

Anthony Butt, driver of Ira Poole NZ ($10.00) which finished in 8th and last position beaten 31.4m after racing outside the leader from the 1700m was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Butt advised the gelding over raced throughout the event despite his efforts which was the main contributing factor in the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4 – ALLIED EXPRESS CINDERELLA STAKES (GROUP 3) (1720 MS)

Iolanta NZ (Michael Stanley) was tightened and contacted marker pegs around the final turn when improving to the inside of Enchanted Stride.

Enchanted Stride (David Miles) failed to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight.

Nathan Jack, driver of Im Off N Gone NZ ($12.00) which finished in 8th and last position beaten 25.1m after racing outside the leader throughout the event was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare. Mr Jack advised Im Off N Gone NZ to be disappointing and attributed the performance to the mare over racing throughout the event along with the mare was not suited in racing without cover with a quick overall mile rate and final half of 54.5 seconds. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities other than Grade 2 EIPH

RACE 5 - TAB PACE (1720 MS)

Ellen Rixon, driver of Franco Jolto was issued a caution for easing the pace approaching the 1100m after obtaining the position outside the leader resulting in Captain Confetti NZ (Abbey Turnbull), Braedos Lad (Jackson Painting) & Love Ina Chevy NZ (Lance Justice) which were all trailing in the running line to be inconvenienced or checked to varying degrees. In not taking more action against Ms Rixon stewards were mindful of the gradual decline in which she eased her runner.

Jackson Painting, driver of Braedos Lad ($3.10) which finished in 9th position beaten 25m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Painting advised the gelding to be extremely disappointing and was at a loss to explain the performance other then the gelding failed to race in a genuine manner after being inconvenienced at the 1100m when Captain Confetti NZ broke gait. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer David Kennedy will be contacted in the coming days relative to the progress of the gelding subsequent to the event.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 22 JUNE 2022

David Kennedy, trainer of Braedos Lad advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on June 18 2022, that the gelding recovered well.  Mr.Kennedy stated Braedos Lad will undergo a full veterinary check over the coming days and a decision on the current preparation will be made thereafter.

RACE 6 – VHRC CADUCEUS METROPOLITAN PACE (1ST HEAT) (2240 MS)

Greg Sugars, driver of Celestial Gossip was issued a caution for the manner which he shifted ground passing 400m which inconvenienced Helluva NZ (John Justice).

Sammys Ideal (Ashleigh Markham) pulled hard during the middle stages of the event & hung inwards around the final turn and contacted marker pegs.

Nathan Jack, driver of Mr Perfect ($2.80 fav) which finished in 6th position beaten 16.7m after leading was queried into the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Jack advised the gelding to be disappointing over the concluding stages and contributed the performance to a combination of the gelding rising in grade to its recent starts and the Mr Perfect being urged forward after the start to obtain the lead with a quicker than normal lead time recorded compared to its previous two (2) starts where the gelding has not been used off the mobile barrier gate. Mr Jack further advised Mr Perfect may be better driven more conservatively at this stage of its career & it would be the stables intention to have blood samples obtain for analysis in the coming days. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Russell Jack will be contacted in the coming days relative to the progress of the gelding subsequent to the event.

Mark Pitt, driver of High Flying Harry NZ ($4.00) which finished in 10th and last position beaten 23.9m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Pitt explained the gelding to be extremely disappointing and could offer no tangible explanation for the performance other than the gelding may not be suited in leading up the three (3) wide line from the 800m and may be best driven with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding displaying Cardiac Arrythmia in accordance with AHR Rule 101C(2)(a) High Flying Harry NZ will now be stood down from racing for a period of fourteen (14) days an ECG & Veterinary report along with trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 22 JUNE 2022

Nathan Jack, stable representative of Mr Perfect NZ advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on June 18 2022, that the gelding had recovered well and blood tests had revealed no abnormality.  Mr Perfect NZ is engaged at Tabcorp Park Melton this Saturday (25 June 2022).

RACE 7 – DANN EVENT HIRE PACE (2240 MS)

Khaki Nui NZ (Ellen Tormey) broke gait shortly after the start was effected. Khaki Nui NZ will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

Simone Walker, driver of Denis William was issued a caution in the manner which she shifted ground at the 1700m which inconvenienced Tango Tara NZ (Kate Gath), Better Eclipse (Greg Sugars) & Khaki Nui NZ all to varying degrees. In not taking more action against Ms Walker stewards were mindful the speed of the event decreased simultaneously.

Simone Walker, driver of Denis William was fined the sum of $200 under AHR Rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to the gelding over the concluding stages with more than a wrist only flicking action.

RACE 8 – VHRC CADUCEUS METROPOLITAN PACE (2ND HEAT) (2240 MS)

No racing incidents.

RACE 9 – HYLANDS 3YO TROT (2240 MS)

A false start was declared at the first attempt when Meadow Valley Star (Anthony Butt) which was drawn inside the second row (Barrier 8) took charge of its driver and forced its way onto the front row and could not be restrained by its driver resulting in Arcee Phoenix (Chris Svanosio) being unable to allocate to barrier position.

A false start was declared at the second attempt when Meadow Valley Star again took charge of its driver shifting inwards checking Hesanavenger (Jack Laugher) & Arcee Phoenix and getting its head over the mobile barrier arm and being unable to be restrained by its driver. In accordance with AHR Rule 141(4) Meadow Valley Star was declared a late scratching at 9:09pm by order of stewards for causing two (2) false starts.

Meadow Valley Star will now be placed right outside the draw in future mobile start events and stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

Arcee Phoenix (Chris Svanosio) began badly when the start was effected at the third attempt. Due to the multiple false starts no action was taken against the gelding.

Bee Bee Beroc (Josh Duggan) began badly as the start was effected at the third attempt shifting outwards checking Stingofawasp (Kate Gath) & Mangana Joe (Kerryn Manning) to varying degrees. Due to the multiple false starts no action was taken against the colt.

Arcee Phoenix broke gait clear of interference approaching the 150m.

Meadow Valley Star underwent a veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have multiple minor lacerations to the nasal area and received precautionary treatment on course however no veterinary stand down was required.

RACE 10 – HYGAIN 2YO PACE (1720 MS)

Oliver Dan (Mark Pitt) broke gait shortly after the start was effected. Oliver Dan will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start events.

RACE 11 – WHAT THE HILL @ WOODLANDS STUD NOOPY KIOSK TROTTERS FREE FOR ALL (GROUP 3) (1720 MS)

Majestuoso NZ (Kate Gath) began badly as the start was effected. Majestuoso NZ will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start events.

A warning was issued against the racing competitiveness of Redriverdebba (Jack Laugher) & McLovin NZ (Brad Chisholm) which were beaten in excess of 60.2m.

Mark Pitt, driver Sundons Courage ($5.00) which finished in 4th position beaten 18.1m was queried into the overall performance of the entire. Mr Pitt advised Sundons Courage to be disappointing over the concluding stages and attributed the performance to the entire sucking wind shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Andy Gath, trainer of McLovin NZ ($17.00) which yielded ground from the 700m to finish in 6th and last position beaten 65.2m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Gath could offer no tangible explanation for the performance. Mr Gath added it would be his intentions to have the gelding examined by the stable veterinarian in the ensuring days. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Andy Gath will be contacted in the coming days relative to the progress of the gelding subsequent to the event.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 22 JUNE 2022

Andy Gath, trainer of McLovin NZ advised subsequent to the poor performance at Tabcorp Park Melton on June 15 2022, that the gelding had some minor knee soreness that has now been treated.  Mr.Gath stated McLovin NZ would continue with the current preparation.
