Mr Ashwood advised it would have been detrimental to Mister Excessive chances to apply any pressure throughout the event as the gelding only has limited ability and was not suited racing without cover along with racing over the longer distance of 2190m as the gelding is better suited to the shorter distances. Mr Ashwood explained he raced back away from the leader in an attempt to gain cover if a runner progressed forward. Mr Ashwood added this was evident approaching the 400m when Mister Excessive was placed under pressure and only finished off the event fairly. Mr Ashwood further explained he was confident both runners would be competitive chances and elected to drive Mister Excessive over Wetsray due to since joining his stable Westray failed to work genuinely in trackwork when driven by himself and appeared to appreciate being driven by female drivers which he elected to engage Ms Michelle Phillips to drive the gelding and would be the stables intentions to continue engaging Ms Phillips or another female driver to continue driving Westray while under his care. Mr Ashwood added he would now reassess the racing future of Mister Excessive within his stable going forward.
