STEWARDS REPORT FOR MILDURA

TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2022

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – EUSTON CLUB RESORT 2YO & 3YO PACE (2190 MS)

Art of Evil hung in and broke gait heading into the first turn and will now be placed on his last chance to race truly. Powerofpersuasion and Emjaybee were both inconvenienced by Art of Evil, having to navigate wider on the track around that runner. Imprincessmia who was trailing Art of Evil was inconvenienced by that runner and broke gait. Given the circumstances, no action was taken against Imprincessmia for breaking gait. Imprincessmia and Art of Evil trailed the field thereafter.

Our Master Play hung in under pressure and contacted a marker peg when giving ground over the concluding stages.

Tayla French, driver of Credulous was fined the sum of $200 under AHRR 156(3) which reads “a driver shall not use a whip in an unapproved manner” for applying the whip to her drive on more occasions than are permitted over the final 200m. In adopting this approach, Stewards noted that Ms French had been penalized under this rule in the preceding 28 days. 

RACE 2 – THE GATEWAY PACE (1790 MS)

The start time of this event was amended to 5.30pm at the request of Sky Channel.

Pet Kitty broke in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The mare trailed the field thereafter.

Shane Osborn, trainer of Egbert was issued with a caution for not declaring Jacob Kerridge as the driver of the gelding by the prescribed time.

Shane Smith was cautioned for tightening the racing room of Egbert (Jacob Kerridge) heading into the first turn, with Egbert subsequently contacting several marker pegs as a result. 

Woody Nightshade shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and a warning was issued. Lilbitahenrytee, who was placed to the outside of that runner was inconvenienced.

Good Word That hung in and broke gait free of interference passing the winning post with one lap to run. Given the gelding’s recent record, Good Word That will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one (1) occasion.

Tell Us We Dream was detained on-course for approx. three hours for the purpose of post-race blood sampling.

RACE 3 – CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY PACE (1790 MS)

Puopolo pulled hard in the score-up.

Ronzel Sonny broke in the score-up was out of position when the start was effected and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.  

Daryl Douglas, driver of Lochster was cautioned for allowing the gelding to shift off a marker peg position rounding the home turn on the final occasion and prior to the entrance of the sprint lane when not clear of CC Jones NZ (Jack Laugher) who was positioned to the outside of Lochster and was inconvenienced momentarily.

Trebek was detained on-course for approx. three hours for the purpose of post-race blood sampling.

RACE 4 – ICS SCAFFOLDING PACE (1790 MS)

Only In Rome NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare Policy, having attained 200 or more race starts with neither check revealing any obvious abnormalities.

Benjimagee ($81) pulled hard at various stages of the event before tiring to be beaten 126.8m and will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one (1) occasion. Benjimagee underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed uticaria (hives) across the back region, with no treatment administered or stand down period required.

Wemen Bella (James Herbertson) was beaten for early speed, then raced roughly after the start and a warning was issued. The mare was then inconvenienced by Benjimagee from approx. the 600m when that runner commenced to yield ground before being held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the final turn.

Andrew Vozlic, trainer of Half Moon Beach ($10 and winner of the event) was questioned regarding what appeared to be an improved performance from the gelding. Mr Vozlic explained that Half Moon Beach can mix his form and that he may have been better suited back in distance in tonight’s event. Mr Vozlic added that Half Moon Bay was held up and unable to improve into the race at Mildura on 8 November 2022. Stewards noted Mr Vozlic’s explanation.

RACE 5 - HATTAH ROADHOUSE PACE (1790 MS)

Fiftyshades Cresco was held up and unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

Fomo was held up and unable to obtain clear running from approx. the 300m to the finish.

Michelle Phillips, driver of Fomo was issued with a caution for shifting ground for directing the mare away from the leader’s back over the concluding stages, subsequently inconveniencing Coco Beach who was placed to her outside at the time.

RACE 6 – MILDURA BOAT & CAMP PACE (1790 MS)

Holzhauer broke in the early part of the score up, was then able to fulfill his position on the gate when the startw as effected and a warning was issued.

Abby Sanderson, driver of Cutty Sark was issued with a caution for tightening the racing room of Our Amazing Grace (Wayne Hill) heading into the first turn.

Aaron Coad, driver of Overpowering was issued with a caution for allowing his left foot to become removed from the sulky footrest in the back straight on the final occasion. In not acting further, Stewards considered that Mr Coad was reaching forward to activate removable gear at the time and replaced his foot in the footrest at the first available opportunity.

RACE 7 – TENDERPRINT AUSTRALIA PACE (1790 MS)

Murranji Track raced roughly in the early part of the score up and a warning was issued.

Rocknroll Ronnie (gate one) hung out in the score up and inconvenienced Wilshire Boulevard (gate two) and Thomas Heights (gate three) to varying degrees. Rocknroll Ronnie was issued with a warning for his manners.

RACE 8 – TASCO PETROLEUM PACE (1790 MS)

Filcarlo underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with the HRV Animal Welfare Policy, having not started in a race in 12 or more months with neither check revealing any obvious abnormalities.

United hung out after the start, heading into the first turn.

Alex Ashwood, driver of Lightning Jash ($2.15 favourite and winner of the event) was cautioned for a lack of control for allowing the gelding to shift out under pressure at the entrance of the home straight without taking sufficient corrective measures. Wild Man, who was placed behind Lightning Jash at the time was able to obtain a run along the marker pegs, to the inside of Lightning Jash. In not acting further, Stewards noted that Lightning Jash finished the event ahead of Wild Man. 

Alex Ashwood, driver of Lightning Jash was fined the sum of $100 under AHRR 162(1)(y) for running through the first half of the last mile in 64.9 seconds (0.9 seconds outside the requirements) when leading the event. In adopting this approach, Stewards considered that Mr Ashwood had a clear recent record under this rule.

Alex Ashwood, driver of Lightning Jash was fined the sum of $200 under AHRR 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to his drive with more than a wrist-only flicking motion, in an action which engaged the shoulder and displayed an excessive amount of force. In adopting this approach, Stewards considered that Mr Ashwood had a clear recent record under this rule.

RACE 9 – PARK DOUGLAS PRINTING 3YO PACE (1790 MS)

Alex Ashwood, trainer of Mister Excessive was fined the sum of $100 under AHRR 273(6)(a) for presenting the gelding to the parade ring in the incorrect saddlecloth number.

Dwayne Locke, driver of Ronzel Micky ($41 and tired to be beaten 128.7m) was questioned regarding what appeared to be a poor performance from the filly. Mr Locke could offer no tangible explanation for the performance and conveyed his disappointment in the effort. Ronzel Micky underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities and as such, will now be stood down pending the completion of one (1) satisfactory trial.

Wayne Hill, driver of Jay Miller ($3.40 and gave ground to be beaten 19.8m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Hill explained that Jay Miller had to endure a significant amount of work in rejoining the main body of the field after breaking gait and losing ground at Mildura on 8 November 2022, and consequently, the gelding may not have backed up well in tonight’s event. Jay Miller underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery, and nasal discharge. Stewards intend to follow up with connections as to the gelding’s recovery in the coming days.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 23 NOVMEBER 2022

Jamie Madruga, trainer of No Win No Worries reported subsequent to the meeting, that the mare had been diagnosed with a mild virus.  Mr.Madruga stated that No Win No Worries has been treated accordingly and would continue with the current preparation.

RACE 10 – TOBIN SOUND PACE (2190 MS)

Lovin Everyday ($61) tired to be beaten 53.6m and will now be placed on her last chance to race competitively.

Mark Riseley, driver of Tell a Tall Story ($34 and tired to be beaten 63.5m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding. Mr Riseley conveyed his disappointment in the effort and offered that Tell a Tall Story may be better suited to racing over shorter distances. Tell a Tall Story underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery. Tell a Tall Story was issued with a warning for the beaten margin. 

RACE 11 - MCDONALDS MILDURA & IRYMPLE PACE (2190 MS)

Sportseal was a late scratching at 9.37am on veterinary advice.

No Emotion broke gait free of interference heading into the back straight on the first occasion and will now be placed on his last chance to race truly.

Lets Go Exclusive hung in and contacted several marker pegs rounding the home turn on the final occasion.

Jordan Leedham (Our Modern Minnie) and Luke Watson (Four Starzzz Ruby) were both cautioned for the manner in which their respective drives jostled for the same position in the early stages. In not acting further, Stewards determined that both drivers had shifted simultaneously and were both entitled to complete for the position in the two-wide line on the back of That Luvn Feelin (Daryl Douglas). Stewards further noted that when Four Starzzz Ruby hung out and raced roughly shortly thereafter that it was at her own accord and not owing to any involvement from Mr Leedham’s drive.

Jordan Leedham (Our Modern Minnie) was cautioned for failing to remain on-course during an active inquiry, when directed to do so by Stewards 

RACE 12 – ZILZIE WINES PACE (2190 MS)

Luke Watson, driver of The Trainman ($41 and beaten 37.3m) was questioned regarding his driving tactics on the gelding. Mr Watson explained that after beginning from the gate cleanly, The Trainman was able to obtain the lead unchallenged and was then able to slow the speed, running through the first quarter of the last mile in 32.9 seconds without any serious pressure from another runner. Mr Watson added that when Mista Pumblechook, who was placed to the outside of his drive, continued to pull hard and race in advance of The Trainman in the home straight with one lap to run, he relinquished the lead and allowed that runner to progress to the lead. Mr Watson further explained that The Trainman had led and won a trial in the lead up to tonight’s event and was a consideration for connections in driving the gelding positively in tonight’s event. Stewards noted Mr Watson’s explanation.

Connor Clarke, driver of Mista Pumblechook ($2.00 favorite and beaten 32.5m) was questioned regarding his driving tactics on the gelding. Mr Clarke explained that his expectation was that The Trainman would relinquish the lead and take cover off Mista Pumblechook in the early stages, given that gelding’s usual racing pattern. When that did not eventuate, and The Trainman retained the lead, Mista Pumblechook commenced to pulled hard when positioned outside the leader, and continued to do so until the winning post with one lap to run. Mr Clarke added that at this point, he was fearful Mista Pumblechook would choke down, so he allowed the gelding to stride forward and obtain the lead, before commencing to give ground at approx. the 450m. Stewards noted Mr Clarke’s explanation. Mista Pumblechook underwent a post race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. 

Mexican Standoff was inconvenienced by Mista Pumblechook when that runner commenced to yield ground.

Eddee was inconvenienced by The Trainman when that runner commenced to yield ground.
