Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
GENERAL

RACE 1 – EUSTON CLUB RESORT PACE (1790 MS)
Riverina Flash was fractious in the score up and has been placed on its last chance in the draw.
Corey Johnson, driver of Rocknroll Ranger was fined $200 under AHR Rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to his drive with more than a wrist flicking motion.
El Queso underwent a post-race veterinary examination that showed the gelding to have a slow recovery.
RACE 2 – THE GATEWAY PACE (1790 MS)
This event was declared a no race after Doc Harvey, driven by Ryan Sanderson fell on the first turn resulting in Havelock (Aaron Dunn), Major West (David Smith) and Good Onya (Alex Ashwood) being checked and the drivers were dislodged from their sulkies.
Mr.Sanderson and Mr.Dunn were cleared of serious injury while Mr.Ashwood and Mr.Smith were transported to hospital for further assessment.
All four drivers were stood down by the on course medical team for the remainder of the meeting and will require a medical clearance before any future engagements.
Post-race veterinary examinations of Havelock, Major West and Good Onya failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Stewards interviewed Ryan Sanderson, driver of Doc Harvey regarding the incident. Mr.Sanderson stated that the gelding began well but was hitting its knee racing into the first turn. Mr.Sanderson added he was planning to take a trailing position behind Devil Of A Smile however was mindful of restraining Doc Harvey too quickly given the way in which the gelding was pacing. He added that as Devil Of A Smile found the lead, Doc Harvey then paced very roughly before breaking and subsequently falling. After taking into consideration the explanation of Mr.Sanderson and viewing all available video footage, Stewards were satisfied that the incident could not be attributed to any driver and that the main contributing factor was the racing manners of Doc Harvey.
Doc Harvey underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have cuts and abrasions to both front legs. Doc Harvey has been stood down pending a veterinary clearance and until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 21 JULY 2022
Andrew Vozlic, trainer of Doc Harvey advised subsequent to the incident at Mildura on July 15 2022, that the gelding had recovered well. Mr.Vozlic stated Doc Harvey will trial Sunday (24 July).
Malcolm Retallick, trainer of Havelock advised subsequent to the incident at Mildura on July 15 2022, that the gelding had recovered well. Mr.Retallick stated Havelock is engaged to race at Mildura on Friday (22 July 2022).
Ingrid Smith, trainer of Major West advised subsequent to the incident at Mildura on July 15 2022, that the gelding had recovered well. Ms.Smith stated Major West had worked well yesterday is engaged to race at Mildura on Friday (22 July 2022).
Sandra O’Connor, trainer of Good Onya advised subsequent to the incident at Mildura on July 15 2022, that the gelding had swelling in the neck and back. Ms.O’Connor would undergo further a veterinary assessment next week and advise Stewards of the results.
RACE 3 – ZILZIE WINES 3YO PACE (2190 MS)
Wayne Hill replaced Danielle Hill (unavailable) as the driver of Major Lincoln.
Jack Laugher replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Sunshine Warrior.
Prior to all clear, Stewards reviewed the video footage of the home straight regarding Rockets Mate racing inside the line of marker pegs for a brief stage in the home straight. Ellen Tormey, driver of Rockets Mate stated that the horse hung in for the majority of the event and after being held up on the final turn she established a run on the inside at the 150m, however the gelding proved difficult to drive over the final stages. Stewards were satisfied with the explanation of Ms.Tormey and declared all clear on the judges placings 5-2-8-4. A warning was issued against the racing manners of Rockets Mate.
RACE 4 – TASCO PETROLEUM PACE (1790 MS)
Bernie Winkle NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.
Wayne Hill replaced Aaron Dunn as the driver of Rocknroll Ronnie.
Sammys Ideal hung in under pressure in the home straight.
Stewards queried Ellen Tormey, driver of Bernie Winkle regarding the overall performance of the gelding and her decision to not move into a three wide position ahead of Rocknroll Ronnie with a lap to run. Ms.Tormey stated that instructions were issued by connections to not expose Bernie Winkle three wide as early as last start. Ms.Tormey added that the slower than average sectionals made it extremely difficult for Bernie Winkle to get into the race from a rearward position. The explanation of Ms.Tormey was noted.
RACE 5 - TENDERPRINT AUSTRALIA PACE FINAL (2190 MS)
Dwayne Locke replaced David Smith as the driver of Indyanna.
Corey Johnson replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Impetuoso.
Jordan Leedham replaced Aaron Dunn as the driver of Jimmy Reactor.
A warning was issued against Deekays Major which broke in the score up.
Jimmy Reactor broke gait when clear of interference at the 600m and has been placed on its last chance to race truly.
Fomo was held up for clear running on the final turn.
RACE 6 – MCDONALDS MILDURA & IRYMPLE PACE (1790 MS)
Samantha Pascoe replaced Aaron Dunn as the driver of Frankntank.
Aaron Coad replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Gracie Cullen.
Jack Laugher replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Hesastar.
All Good was held up for clear running on the final turn.
Hesastar was held up for clear running on the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.
Jack Laugher, driver of Hesastar was issued a caution for shifting ground in the home straight inconveniencing Frankntank.
RACE 7 – MALLEE BEARINGS PACE (1790 MS)
Louis Emerson failed to appear in the racebook as the driver of Illawong Parris.
King Solomon NZ was a late scratching at 6.39pm with Stewards Permission.
A warning was issued against Illawong Parris which failed to circle prior to the start.
Yoursnmine was held up for clear running on the final turn.
United broke under pressure in the home straight and has been placed on its last chance to race truly.
Stewards queried Louis Emerson, driver of Illawong Parris ($3.90) regarding the performance of the mare which finished in last place beaten 154m. Mr.Emerson stated Illawong Parris raced fiercely and pulled extremely hard throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Illawong Parris has been stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
Stewards queried Jordan Leedham, driver of United ($2.15fav) regarding the performance of the horse which finished in 7th position beaten 29m. Mr.Leedham stated United travelled well in the lead however when pressured at the 600m the horse failed to respond to driving. The explanation of Mr.Leedham was noted and a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
Trainer Aaron Brown was fined $50 under AHR Rule 273(3) for failing to have a throat lash fitted to Illawong Parris.
Kaela Hryhorec, driver of Overpowering was fined $100 under AHR Rule 156(3) for using the whip more times than approved over the final 200m.
RACE 8 – TANKARD DENTAL PACE (2190 MS)
The Rocknroll King NZ was a late scratching at 6.39pm with Stewards Permission.
Neil McCallum replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Tact Tory NZ.
Samantha Pascoe replaced Aaron Dunn as the driver of Justanextragrand.
Corey Johnson replaced David Smith as the driver of Canada Bay.
Justanextragrand pulled hard through the middle stages.
Tact Tory NZ was inconvenienced by the tiring Petrea Bromac from the 600m-400m.
Stewards queried Wayne Hill regarding the performance of Petrea Bromac ($13) which finished in last position beaten 88m. Mr.Hill stated after finding the lead in the early stages, Petrea Bromac travelled comfortably until pressured during the middle stages by Nationaldraft which had made a midrace three wide move. After initially holding the lead, Mr.Hill then elected to take a trail behind Nationaldraft but soon after began to tire. Mr.Hill added that Petrea Bromac was first up since February and may have been in need of the run. The explanation of Mr.Hill was noted and a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Petrea Bromac NZ has been placed on its last chance to race competitively.
RACE 9 – WEIGHTMAN'S PACKAGING & STATIONERY PACE (1790 MS)
Only In Rome NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.
Ellen Tormey replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Jordie Dee.
Luke Watson replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Steal Some Time.
Stewards queried Ellen Tormey, driver of Jordie Dee ($2.50fav) regarding the performance of the mare which finished in last position beaten 32m. Ms.Tormey stated that Jordie Dee never travelled well and despite a nice trailing position the mare was under pressure at the 600m. The explanation of Ms.Tormey was noted and a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 10 – RED CLIFFS COLONIAL MOTOR LODGE PACE (1790 MS)
Arma Veyron was a late scratching at 6.39pm with Stewards Permission.
Kaela Hryhorec replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Rocking Wroxton.
A warning was issued against The Trainman which broke in the score up.
Stewards noted that the undercheck had broken on The Trainman during the event.
RACE 11 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE (2190 MS)
Jack Laugher replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Reality Player.
Neil McCallum replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Falcons Lad.
Mustang Max raced roughly in the score up.
Lorne Beach and Woody Nightshade pulled hard during the middle stages.
Falcons Lad tired from the 700m to beaten 158m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. The gelding has been stood down from racing for 10 days and until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
RACE 12 – HORSELAND MILDURA PACE (2190 MS)
Ellen Tormey replaced Alex Ashwood as the driver of Heza Western.
Neil McCallum replaced Ryan Sanderson as the driver of Sarah Bonus.
Taking into account the margin established by the placegetters, no action was taken against Lovin Everyday (55m) and Juslikeroyalty (65m) which both tired.
A warning was issued against Terror To Rock which was out of position at the start. The gelding tired to be beaten 104m and was placed on its last chance to race competitively.
Livinontheedge tired to be beaten 241m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality and the gelding has been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
