Track: Rain affected |

Showers / Rain |
Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
GENERAL
Due to persistent rain the track was inspected by Stewards upon arrival, and the mobile barrier tested, with the rain continuing a further inspection and mobile barrier test was conducted 30 minutes prior to Race 1 with the track deemed suitable for racing.
RACE 1 – GOLDFIELDS FM 99.1 HARNESS RACING SHOW 2YO PACE (2190 MS)
Whos Watching Lilly pulled hard whilst racing outside the leader.
The Huntress hung in under pressure approaching the finish.
RACE 2 – RED HOUSE BAKERY PACE (1690 MS)
Thump underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations pursuant to HRV animal welfare policy due to not having started in a race since 26 March 2021. No abnormalities were detected.
Shady Dancer hung in in the score up and was out of position at the start and a warning was placed on its starting manners.
Stewards queried trainer Basil Dooley (Onwatch) as to the apparent improved performance of that runner. Mr Dooley explained that the gelding had been suited by racing in this class and from a favourable barrier draw was able to lead and dictate a suitable tempo. Mr Dooley also explained that in his opinion the previous start at Geelong was better than appeared on paper as the gelding had raced back on the peg line and had been held up, with the driver unable to activate removable gear until close to the finish. Stewards noted the explanation put forward by Mr Dooley.
Stewards queried driver Rory Coverdale (Regal Reggae). Ms Coverdale explained her instructions had been to go forward as the gelding had been competitive in recent starts when driven in that manner and had formed the view early in the race that Vallani Magic, which was racing outside the leader was looking for cover so she then persisted and was able to get to the position outside the leader and was then content to rate her drive from that point on. Stewards noted the explanation put forward.
RACE 3 – SKYVALLEY SPRINT LANE TROT (2190 MS)
Tictok broke as the start was affected and was placed out of the mobile barrier draw and after breaking on a further two occasions whilst trailing the field Tictok was also placed on its last chance to race truly.

Mielicki will remain out of the mobile barrier draw at the request of the trainer.
Keayang Chucky broke shortly after the start was affected and was placed out of the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 5 - CARISBROOK MOTORS 3YO PACE (2190 MS)
Star Celebrity failed to participate in the pre start circle. Given its inability to circle prior to the start and prior starting manners the filly placed out of the mobile barrier draw. Chris Alford was not listed in the racebook as the driver of Bitta Irish Luck.
