Racing towards the back straight on the final occasion, Treacheroustimes hung in and commenced to lose ground resulting in Our Cheeky Devil being inconvenienced when following. Jeremy Quinlan, driver of Our Cheeky Devil was subsequently cautioned for attempting to shift away from a position on the marker pegline during this section when there existed insufficient room to do so.

John Caldow, driver of Spendthrift reported that the gelding commenced to contact its own sulky, however he could offer no further explanation for the performance. A veterinary examination of Spendthrift revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Treacheroustimes gave ground over the concluding stages.

RACE 2 BUDS & BRANCHES FLORIST PACE (2180 MS)

Wonderforce which has attained the age of 12 was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Good Feelings which has competed in more than 200 races was examined by the veterinarian before and after the race in accordance with HRV policy which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Hand Writer galloped during the early part of the score up and was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

Drivers Bailey McDonough (Bart Maguire NZ), Abbey Turnbull (Kellys Ideal) and Ross Graham (Manbar Princess) were questioned regarding an incident shortly after the start where Kellys Ideal was tightened for room before being checked and breaking gait. After giving consideration to the evidence available it was established that shortly after the start, Bart Maguire NZ was inclined to shift out slightly where at the same time Manbar Princess had shifted in against the efforts of its driver causing Kellys Ideal to suffer interference. The cause of Manbar Princess shifting in was verified on the back straight camera angle, in that the whip of driver Ross Graham (Manbar Princess) had become entangled with Kellys Ideal contributing to Manbar Princess shifting in. In view of the contributing factors involved, and as no driver was held accountable for the incident, no further action was pursued.

Monique Burnett, driver of Wonderforce was questioned regarding her tactics during the early stages. Ms Burnett explained that she was able to maintain the lead from barrier 1 without placing her drive under any significant driving despite the initial challenge from Good Feelings (R Walters). Ms Burnett added that as Good Feelings was then continuing to challenge to her outside passing the 1800m, she then considered it to be in her best interests to no longer withstand the challenge and therefore she relinquished the lead into the back straight on the first occasion. Wonderforce ultimately finished in 6th position beaten approximately 14m. Ms Burnett’s explanation was recorded.

Robert Walters, driver of Good Feelings was questioned regarding his tactics during the early stages. Mr Walters explained that when drawn to do so, Good Feelings had been driven forward in an attempt to obtain the lead and after beginning quickly from barrier 7 he elected to persist with endeavouring to obtain the lead given the relative advantage he had obtained past Wonderforce (M Burnett), however he considered that Good Feelings was somewhat reluctant to progress past that horse. Mr Walters added that after further driving he was then able to obtain the lead approaching the 1600m prior to then completing the first half of the last mile in 64 seconds and ultimately finishing in 7th position beaten 19m. Mr Walter’s explanation was recorded.

Ross Graham, driver of Manbar Princess explained that approaching and passing the winning post with one lap remaining the mare commenced to over-race and that combined with the leader (Good Feelings) easing the tempo further, Manbar Princess raced in advance of the leader. Mr Graham added that he was also aware that Good Feelings had worked considerably during the early stages to obtain the lead and he felt that he may be able to cross to the lead during this section which failed to eventuate. Mr Graham’s explanation was recorded.

Manbar Princess pulled hard during the middle stages.

Robert Walters, driver of Good Feelings was cautioned for allowing his body to protrude back and beyond the sulky confines over the latter stages.

Karalta Courage (2nd place) was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.

Kellys Ideal (5th place) was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and in the early part of the home straight.
