STEWARDS REPORT FOR HAMILTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – SAVE THE DATE CUP DAY SUNDAY 15TH JAN 2023 PACE (2160 MS)
Race start time amended to 12:22pm due to the delayed arrival of the Veterinarian.
Irishmurphy underwent a pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV policy due to the gelding being 12 years of age. Both examinations revealed no abnormalities.
A warning was issued against the racing manners of Princess Alexandra which hung in and contacted marker pegs on the final turn.
Royal Apollo was held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.
Asharah utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.
Jackie Barker, driver of Irishmurphy, was fined $100 under Rule 156(3) for using the whip in an unapproved manner in that inside the final 200m she applied the whip on more occasions than permitted.
RACE 2 – GRAND CENTRAL HOTEL HAMILTON PACE (1660 MS)
No reportable racing incidents.
RACE 3 – TAYLOR MOTORS HAMILTON PACE (1660 MS)
Ryan Sanderson replaced Denbeigh Wade (indisposed) as the driver of Kempseys Delight.
Johnny Redcoat underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations in accordance with HRV policy due to the gelding having over 200 race starts. Both examinations revealed no abnormalities.
Kempseys Delight utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.
Shannon O’Sullivan, driver of Mister Uptown ($2.25fav) was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which tired from the 400m to be beaten 54m into last placing. Ms.O’Sullivan stated that Mister Uptown never travelled well while sitting outside the leader and could offer no other explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of Mister Uptown revealed no abnormality.
RACE 4 –FINCHETTS PLUMBING 3YO PACE (2160 MS)
A false start was declared when Peppermint broke in the score up, checking Emer. Peppermint will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
Connor Clarke, driver of Royal Saxon was issued a caution for failing to have the gelding in position at the start.
RACE 5 -BECOME A HHRC MEMBER TROT (2160 MS)
Katrina Fitzpatrick, trainer of Kyvalley Surfrider NZ was issued a caution for presenting the gelding late into the parade ring.
Lance Justice, trainer of Carnera was issued a caution for presenting the gelding late into the parade ring.
Old Villa Boy was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile starts.
Tictok was out of position at the start and broke after the start. The mare will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile starts.
Old Villa Boy broke gait when clear of interference at the 400m.
Kyvalley Surfrider NZ broke gait when clear of interference at the 200m, inconveniencing Perseveranse.
RACE 6 – MATTHEWS PETROLEUM PACE (1660 MS)
A warning was issued against the manners of Vegas Prince which was fractious in the score up.
Vegas Prince raced roughly at the 600m.
Fire Official was held up for clear running on the final turn.
Stewards inquired into an incident shortly after the start which resulted in Smile With A Grin being checked and breaking gait. After taking evidence from Lance Justice (Snazola), Lochie Cook (Smile With A Grin) and Rod Barker (Vegas Prince) it was established that during the score up Snazola hung in briefly and soon after the start hung out despite the efforts of Mr.Justice. Stewards were satisfied that the interference was due to the racing manners of Snazola and the mare will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.
Codi Rauchenberger, driver of Your A Shocker was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which gave ground in the home straight after leading to be beaten 13m into 7th position. Ms.Rauchenberger could offer no explanation for the performance and a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have symptoms of a virus. Your A Shocker has been stood down from racing pending a vet clearance.
RACE 7 – ALEXANDRA HOUSE SPORTS CLUB PACE (2160 MS)
Kolovos pulled hard outside the leader before tiring from the 500m, inconveniencing True Blue Rose and Frank Burns NZ. A warning was issued against the performance of Kolovos NZ
RACE 8 – 3 HA/MIXX FM PACE (1660 MS)
Gotta Smudge broke in the score up and has been placed on its last chance in the draw.
Gotta Smudge and Sunstar were held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.
Rory Coverdale, driver of Gotta Smudge was spoken to in relation to the manner in which she attempted to correct the gait of the gelding during the score up.
