Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.
RACE 1 – SUMMIT BLOODSTOCK PACE (2130MS)
MAJESTIC STAR (K. Harper) – Broke gait in the score-up, was out of position at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness to the near-fore. No action was taken against the gelding for its barrier manner. Trainer was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to trialling or racing again.
RACE 2 – AARON BAIN RACING #EXPERIENCETHETHRILL CONDITIONED PACE (2130MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 3 – HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY NOAH GEORGE 3YO PACE (2130MS)
SWINGBAND (K. Symington) – Broke gait racing towards the front straight on the first occasion, as the gelding had offended previously will be stood down from racing for 13 days until it completes two satisfactory re-qualifying trials. The gelding returned having dropped its off-side knee boot.
ARDENS HORIZON NZ (C. Sevaljko) – Hung inwards momentarily prior to the finish, causing SEVEN NO TRUMPS (G. Hall Jnr) to race in restricted room for a short distance.
RODASI NZ (C. Lewis) – Disappointing performance. Driver reported the gelding contacted its own sulky in running and, as a result, didn’t settle as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 4 – MICHAEL YOUNG PACING STABLES PACE (2130MS)
TENZING BROMAC NZ (R. Warwick) – Galloped as the start was effected, checking RAGAZZO MACH NZ (S. Suvaljko). Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
KIMBLE (G. Hall Jnr) – Performed below market expectations. Trainer M.Young advised the gelding was not suited when having to be driven forward to race outside the leader in a fast lead time in the early stages, which has been detrimental to its finishing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Driver S. Suvaljko (RAGAZZO MACH NZ) was cautioned for using his whip outside the confines of the sulky.
TALKS UP A STORM was a late withdrawal at 4.13pm when Trainer M. Lindau advised the gelding had injured itself when in its stable.
RACE 5 – SUMMIT BLOODSTOCK NAVY CUP (G2) FFA PACE (2130MS)
DIEGO NZ (M. Brown) – Galloped as the start was effected, inconveniencing BABYFACE ADDA (C. Wallrodt). Will be placed outside the draw in future mobile barrier events.
RACE 6 – WWW.SUMMITBLOODSTOCK.COM.AU PACE (1730MS)
RENAISSANCE ART (C. Lewis) – Out of position at the start. Will continue to be placed outside the draw in mobile barrier events.
OUR SHELLEY BEACH NZ (S. Suvaljko) – When held up for clear running and travelling strongly, the gelding was restrained when racing close to the sulky of ADDA SOMETHING (M. Young) and broke gait, as a result of the circumstances no action was taken.
RACE 7 – WWW.AARONBAINRACING.COM.AU FILLIES & MARES PACE (2130MS)
SOVRANA (A. De Campo) - Performed below market expectations. Trainer/Driver advised the filly was not suited racing outside the leader when running fast sectionals in the early and middle stages of the race and as result gave ground from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no abnormalities. Trainer further advised he would assess the recovery of the filly and report any abnormalities.
THREE RUMOURS NZ (C. Lewis) – Broke gait racing in the front straight on the first occasion. It was established that the hopple shortening cord had entangled around the mares off hind leg, causing her to react and break gait. As a result, no action was taken.
RACE 8 – THE NULLABOR 14TH APRIL 2023 DIV.1 PACE (2536MS)
TELLMETOATTACK (J. Young) – Broke gait when contacting the near-side sulky wheel of ROCK ME OVER (C. Voak) racing towards the front straight on the final occasion. On inquiry it was established that when (J.Young) TELLMETOATTACK had attempted to obtain a marginal run to the inside of ROCK ME OVER, that gelding hung inwards momentarily despite the efforts of its driver. As a result, TELLMETOATTACK was tightened for racing room and broke gait. After considering all contributing factors to the incident Driver J.Young was advised to ensure there is sufficient racing room when attempting runs in future and a warning was placed on the race manner of ROCK ME OVER.
RACE 9 – SUMMIT BLOODSTOCK ‘THANKYOU TO OUR OWNERS’ DIV.2 PACE (2536MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 10 – SUMMIT BLOODSTOCK ‘OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE’ TROT (2130MS)
WESTLAND PEAK NZ (F. Bennett) – Broke gait in the early stages of the score-up and was out of position at the start. Will continue to be placed outside the draw in mobile barrier events.
PEACHEE (N. Johns) – Out of position at the start. Will continued to be placed right outside the draw in mobile barrier events.
ONE BID BUYS NZ (H. Charles) – Broke gait racing out of the back straight on the first occasion a warning was issued.
GOODTIME PE RABBIT (S. Suvaljko) – Trotted roughly shortly after the start.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into an incident which occurred racing towards the front straight on the final occasion where ELISH STAR (L. Harper) contacted the near-side sulky wheel of PEACHEE (N. Johns), which had been racing to the inside of GOODTIME PE RABBIT (S.Suvaljko).
