RACE 4 – NYE BOOKINGS NOW OPEN DIV.1 PACE (2130MS)
BATAVIA BLACKHOLE (C Voak) - Driver C Voak was interviewed in relation to his tactics in holding the lead after being challenged by POCKETFULLOFPEPPER (J Suvaljko) and then endeavouring to maintain the lead when GETN WIGGY WITHIT NZ (G Hall Jnr) was driven forward racing into the back straight on the first occasion, before then relinquishing the lead to that gelding near the 1200m. Mr Voak explained that he was he was instructed to lead from barrier one and was reluctant to relinquish the lead to GETN WIGGY WITHIT NZ after that gelding’s unplaced performance at its prior start. Mr Voak stated that his instructions to lead were based on the BATAVIA BLACKHOLE having raced competitively in recent starts, including when positioned outside the leader. Mr Voak’s instructions were confirmed with Trainer H Reeves. Given the beaten margin being in excess of 50m, together with the first quarter being run in 28.4, Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Voak had erred in his tactics by continuing to hold the lead for some distance when challenged by GETN WIGGY WITHIT, however his error was not deemed to be culpable under the rules and he was told to exercise better judgement in future.
BURGHLEY SHARD NZ (M Miller) - Shifted inwards and contacted the sulky wheel of GETN WIGGY WITHIT NZ (G Hall Jnr) and raced tightly with that gelding in the front straight on the first occasion.
