Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics. Stewards today inspected a number of Trainers’ stables with horses engaged at today’s meeting as part of the RWWA Compliance Assurance Activities.
RACE 1 – BARBAGALLO LUXURY CARS PACE (1730MS)
The photo finish system malfunctioned during the race and the placings were determined manually.

TALKS UP A STORM (D Egerton-Green)-Raced roughly in the front straight on the final occasion.
MASTER PUBLISHER (G Hall Jnr)- Raced roughly in the front straight on the final occasion.
RACE 3 – BARBAGALLO LAND ROVER PACE (2536MS)
DOC HOLLIDAY (E Suvaljko)-Trainer M Young expressed disappointment in the performance as the gelding was under pressure from the 400m and failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
TUAS DELIGHT NZ (C Suvaljko)-Broke gait at the start. Trainer/Driver C Suvaljko was advised that the gelding will now be placed out of the draw for future mobile events.
RACE 4 – BARBAGALLO LAMBORGHINI CONDITIONED PACE (1730MS)
Driver A De Campo (MIRACLE MOOSE) was reprimanded under HR156(2)(a) for using his whip in more than a flicking motion.
RACE 5 – BARBAGALLO JAMES BRENNAN MEMORIAL (G1) (2536MS)
TO FAST TO SERIOUS (D Egerton-Green)-Driver D Egerton-Green was interviewed regarding the reason for him maintaining the lead and withstanding the challenge from HAMPTON BANNER (C Lewis) with a faster than average lead time being recorded before then relinquishing the lead to MAGNIFICENT STORM (A Cortpassi). Mr Egerton-Green advised that as HAMPTON BANNER had not gained any advantage over TO FAST TO SERIOUS he was able to withstand the challenge, however due to the fast pace set in these circumstances he was concerned that TO FAST TO SERIOUS had already worked hard and would not be able to finish off the race if he persisted in holding the lead when MAGNIFICENT STORM was driven forward and he therefore elected to take a trailing position behind that gelding in an endeavour to have his drive finish off the race as best as possible.
HAMPTON BANNER NZ (C Lewis)- When interviewed in relation to his tactics in persevering in challenging the leader TO FAST TO SERIOUS (D Egerton-Green) with a faster than average lead time being recorded, Driver C Lewis explained that he was of the opinion that had he desisted in his endeavour to lead and relinquish his position earlier by allowing MAGNIFICENT STORM to cross he would remain left in the breeze which was undesirable given that he anticipated that gelding to be continue to be driven forward and cross to the lead and he therefore persevered with his challenge in anticipation of TO FAST TO SERIOUS relinquishing the lead to HAMPTON BANNER and thereby avoid being left racing outside the leader without cover, however he was unable to achieve this tactic when that gelding withstood his challenge before then taking a trailing position behind MAGNIFICENT STORM.
RACE 6 – BARBAGALLO NORMS DAUGHTER CLASSIC (G1) (2130MS)
No racing incidents to report.
RACE 7 – BARBAGALLO FERRARI 3YO PACE (2536MS)
SPEEDWAGON (A De Campo) -A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an elevated heart rate. Trainer R Bell advised he would have blood specimens taken and report any irregularities to the Stewards.
SEVEN NO TRUMPS (E Suvaljko)-Sustained a puncture to the offside sulky tyre. Slipped in the stall area and was found to have back soreness and received veterinary treatment and consequently was stood down from racing for 7 days.
General: K Symington was fined $100 for careless driving under HR168(1)(a) for contacting and puncturing the offside sulky tyre of SEVEN NO TRUMPS (E Suvaljko) in the back straight on the final occasion.
RACE 8 – BARBAGALLO ART PACE (2503SS)
AUSSIE SCOOTER (R Warwick)-Driver R Warwick reported that the offside sulky tyre deflated from the 1600m.
TROOPINGOFTHECOLOR (C Voak)-Galloped out. A warning was issued against the gelding’s starting manner.
THE STARS ABOVE (C Peterson)- Galloped out and will remain out of the draw for standing start events.
CAULONIA ARTY (E Suvaljko)-Galloped out and will remain out of the draw for standing start events. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Due to the uncompetitive performance, Trainer P Tilbrook was advised the gelding would be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until the completion of one satisfactory requalifying trial.
General: Driver S Suvaljko (DEEORSE) was fined $300 under HR156(2)(a) for using his whip in more than a flicking motion.
RACE 9 – BARBAGALLO WATCH PACE (2130MS)
RAGAZZO MACH NZ was a late withdrawal at 3.55pm when Trainer M Reed advised that a stable employee informed him that he may have inadvertently erred in giving the horse a feed intended for another horse in the same stable block which contained medication and in such circumstances the withdrawal was permitted for precautionary reasons.
Co-Trainers G & S Bond were fined $50 under 273(6)(b) for failing to advise of a gear change by the prescribed time for TENZING BROMAC (Hood Blinkers-Off). Notification of this gear change was publicly disseminated.
EXPERIA NZ (C Brown)-Gave ground from the 600m to be beaten 152m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Due to the uncompetitive performance, Trainer B Fyfe was advised the gelding would be stood down from racing for a period of 6 days and until the completion of one satisfactory requalifying trial.
WITHOUTTHETUH (K Symington)-Driver K Symington was questioned in relation to his tactics and the unplaced performance of the gelding and the reason for him recording a faster than average lead time of 35.3 seconds when leading with the gelding giving ground from the 400m to be beaten by 50.9m. Mr Symington explained that he had driven the gelding vigorously from the start to cross to the lead and shortly thereafter it commenced to over-race and failed to settle in running which was exacerbated when HIMSELF (D Egerton-Green) improved forward to race to his outside. Mr Symington added that WITHOUTTHETUH had raced in a fresh manner after not having started for a period of four weeks and consequently he was unable to restrain the gelding to take a trailing position behind HIMSELF. Although Stewards accepted that WITHOUTTHETUH over-raced, Mr Symington was advised that he is expected to show greater judgement in future and avoid recording considerably faster than average lead times wherever possible to avoid compromising his drives finishing efforts.
RACE 10 – BARBAGALLO IN OSBORNE PARK PACE (1730MS)
GLORAFILIA NZ- was a late withdrawal at 3.55pm when Trainer M Reed advised that a stable employee may have inadvertently erred in giving the horse a feed intended for another horse in the same stable block which contained medication and in such circumstances the withdrawal was permitted for precautionary reasons.
