Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – APG OFFERS $2.2M IN PRIZEMONEY 2YO PACE (2100 SS)
Jodie Quinlan was accepted as a late driving change on Thenotoriousmacee due to the listed driver Jack Laughter being held up enroute.
Goodtime Miki galloped shortly after the start inconveniencing trailing runners Sophisticated Franco and Benbullan. Goodtime Miki was placed outside the draw for future mobile start races.
Benbullan commenced to pull hard at approximately the 1500m. Benbullan raced forward and contact the sulky of Goodtime Miki resulting in the gelding galloping in consequence. Benbullan continued to pull hard and driver James Herbertson elected to improve three wide. Benbullan then tired to be beaten 83m. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Mr Herbertson advised that the colt had become fierce after contacting its own sulky wheels during the race. Considering the colts manners and performance, Benbullan was placed on its last chance to race truly.
Driver Joe Pace (Hurrikane Franco) was caution for shifting ground outwards just prior to the candy pole in the back straight on the final occasion which momentarily inconvenienced Goodtime Miki.
Driver Craig Demmler, (Wheresthestorm), was issued with a caution for the manner in which he shifted ground at approximately the 300m which momentarily inconvenienced Sherocks Sherolls. When assessing the incident, Stewards took into consideration the inexperience of both Wheresthestorm and Sherocks Sherolls.
Seventy Four Gee commenced the race roughly rounding the final turn while giving ground and shifted in and contacted marker pegs. Given the racing record of this gelding a warning was issued.
RACE 2 – APG - BRINGING THE SALES & RACES TO OWNERS PACE (2100 MS)
The race book failed to show Kate Hargreaves as the driver of Bulldog Macray.
The race book failed to show Brent Murphy as the driver of Oscar Bravo.
The race book failed to show Corey Bell as the driver of Didn’t I.
Pre-race and post-race veterinarian examinations were conducted on Bulldog Macray under the HRV horse welfare policy, due to the gelding not racing since September 2021. Both examinations cleared the gelding of any abnormalities
Driver George Schembri (Rhyflective) was fined $200 under Rule156(2)(a) for his unapproved whip use, in that he applied the whip with more than a wrist only flicking action during the early stages of the home straight.
RACE 3 – RICH RIVER GOLF CLUB - THE PERFECT DESTINATION FOR YOUR NEXT GOLF TRIP 3YO PACE (1609 MS)
Goodtime Jessie was a last scratching at 10.30am on veterinary advice.
Betonbetty and Mon Soleil both shifted out under pressure in the home straight and warnings were issued against their racing manners.
Female Assassin raced roughly after showing initial gate speed during the early stages when racing outside the leader. Entering the back straight on the final occasion Female Assassin commenced to hang in and lost ground rapidly. Female Assassin then improved rounding the final turn before becoming unbalanced and racing roughly under pressure in the home straight. Given the filly had not raced since June 2022 stewards refrained from taking any action other than to note the performance on this occasion.
RACE 4 –BENSTUD STANDARDBREDS PACE (1609 MS)
Jasperine was required to start from the outside of the front row, due to the mare being placed out of the draw at its most recent start on the 27th of October.
Corey Bell failed to appear in the race book as the driver of Good Feelings.
Pre-race and post-race veterinarian examinations were conducted on Good Feelings under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding racing on more than 200 previous occasions. Both examinations cleared Good Feelings of any obvious abnormalities.
Good Feelings pulled hard while leading during the middle stages. Entering the home straight on the final occasion Good Feelings shifted in under pressure. Driver Corey Bell was issued with a caution for failing to make sufficient effort to correct Good Feelings which raced marginally into the sprint lane over the concluding stages.
Trainer representative Robert Walters (Good Feelings) was fined $100 under Rule273(3) for failing to have a throat lash fitted to the bridle worn by the gelding.
RACE 5 -BECOME A VHRC MEMBER TODAY PACE (1609 MS)
Ellen Rixon (Modern Bliss) was cautioned for the manner which she shifted ground outward just prior to the candy pole in the back straight on the final occasion which inconvenienced Our Uncle Jim.
Jackierabbit was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn before utilising the sprint lane in the home straight.
Champagne Rockstar was held up behind the leader Kolovos NZ as it commenced to give ground rounding the final turn then obtained a clear run from approximately 150m. Driver Greg Sugars was questioned in regard to relinquishing the lead to Kolovos NZ during the early stages after leading. Mr. Sugars stated that he was mindful of the speed at that stage and was of the opinion his filly would not benefit from maintaining the lead given the pressure applied.
RACE 6 – APG - SERVING THE INDUSTRY FOR 32 YEARS PACE (2100 MS)
The race book failed to show David Murphy as the driver of My Mikimoto.
Elli Joh was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
My Mikimoto gave ground over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. At the request of the trainer, My Mikimoto was administered medication for which the mare was stood down for a period of 7 days.
Chris Alford driver of Captain Maastricht was fined $200 under Rule156(2)(a), in that he applied his whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight on the final occasion.
RACE 7 – RENOWN SILVERWARE PACE (1609 MS)
Pre and post-race veterinary examinations were conducted on Baccarat under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding racing on more than 200 previous occasions and the gelding being 13 years of age. Both examinations cleared Baccarat of any obvious abnormalities.
Near the 500m Jay Bee was inconvenienced when locking wheels briefly with Welease Woger which shifted ground.
Ewa Justice the driver of Mister Nien was reminded of her obligations with regards to her whip use displayed in the home straight on the final occasion.
Your a Shocker was held up for clear running in the early stages in the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.
RACE 8– VHRC / ALDEBARAN PARK BENEFITING OUR MEMBERS TROTTERS HANDICAP (2100 MS)
David Murphy failed to appear in the race book as the driver of Cork.
Dicko Dixon swung sideways at the start, was slow to begin and will continue right out of the draw for future standing start races.
Just Abit Dusty began badly checking trailing runner Wisp Of Smoke and will continue out of the draw for future standing start races.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion Just Abit Dusty galloped again and trailed the field thereafter. Given recent racing record of this gelding Just Abit Dusty was stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
Sovereign Tiger stood flat footed initially before swinging sideways and galloping shortly after the start, checking trailing runner Valley Star NZ. Valley Star NZ galloped as a result. Both Sovereign Tiger and Valley Star NZ trailed the field thereafter. Sovereign Tiger was placed outside the draw for future standing start races.
Aldebaran Boyd galloped in the final stages of the race and remained in a gallop when crossing the finish line. Given its finishing position in second place and the significant margin to the third placed runner, All Clear was given on the judges numbers. Taking into consideration the recent racing manners of this gelding Aldebaran Boyd was issued with a warning.
RACE 9 – HEYWOODS SHEPPARTON MOTOR PANELS MAIDEN PACE (2100 MS)
Craig Demmler failed to appear in the race book as the driver of Judes Dude.
Corey Bell failed to appear in the race book as the driver of Cantseeme.
Aboutagirl was examined pre and post-race under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the mare not racing since August 2021 and was cleared of any obvious abnormalities.
Alook A Like galloped clear of interference when attempting to improve from the 600m. The gelding will be given one last chance to race truly.
It was noted that Majestic Sue, contacted the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane in the home straight.
Cantseeme pulled hard while racing with cover on the peg line during the middle stages.
