STEWARDS REPORT FOR GEELONG

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

RACE 1 – CAINY'S PLUMBING & AGG SERVICES PACE (1609 MS)

The official race book was amended to correct the starting time to 6.35pm.

Craig Demmler was approved as a late driver replacement on Playful Miss.

Ryan Sanderson was approved as a late driver replacement on Denstown NZ.

River Patrol NZ was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the gelding racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Mach Charm was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the mare racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Good Feelings was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the gelding racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Craig Demmler, the driver of Playful Miss was cautioned for half carting when trailing the wheel of Silver Domino between the 600 and 400m.

Passing the 400m, Nicolescruiser hung in and contacted the sulky of Mach Charm.

Good Feelings was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Michelle Phillips the driver of River Patrol NZ was reminded of her obligations with regards to her whip use displayed in the home straight on the final occasion.

RACE 2 SOUTHERN CROSS FEEDS PACE (1609 MS)

Emma Stewart, the trainer of Wheres The Gold NZ was fined $200 under Rule 273(6)(b) for failing to have the gear form for the gelding accurately recorded.

Iambecauseofyou which improved 3 wide during the early stages to improve to the position outside of the leader, hung in at various stages and near the 700m hung in badly resulting in Major Major which was positioned to its inside being hampered and consequently lost its rightful running. It was further noted that Iambecauseofyou continued to hang rounding the final turn and gave ground before its driver Daryl Douglas moved the gelding inside the line of the marker pegs and failed to compete thereafter. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the manners displayed and poor performance stewards ordered that Iambecauseofyou will now be stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

Major Major was checked from the 400m and up to the entry of the home straight when taken back by the weakening Iambecauseofyou.

RACE 3 – BARWON FACILITIES MAINTENANCE 2YO PACE (2100 MS)

Nathan Purdon, the trainer of Alanna Miki was cautioned for failing to have the gear form accurately recorded for the filly.

Hugo Maguire NZ hung in at various stages whilst positioned outside of the leader.

Approaching the home straight on the final occasion, Alanna Miki paced roughly before shifting in and raced to the inside of the final marker peg prior to utilising the sprint lane. Prior to the declaration of all-clear stewards reviewed this matter and determined that the filly gained no advantage as a result of its positioning inside the final marker peg and consequently the all-clear was announced.

My Ultimate Jacko hung in when placed under pressure on the entry to the home straight.

Jack Laugher, the driver My Ultimate Jacko was reminded of his obligations with regards to his whip use displayed in the home straight.

RACE 4 –THE LANG TROT FINAL (2100 SS)

Savvy Kyvalley (Ft handicap) began badly when galloping out and will continued to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

Carnera (Ft handicap) began badly when galloping out and will continues to be excluded from the standing start barrier draw.

Near the 600m, Claudy An Gus broke gait free of interference for which a warning was issued.

A post-race veterinarian examination of Rogue Gentleman revealed a minor amount of blood in its mouth.

Shield Maiden was examined by the club’s Veterinarian following the event as a result of the mare being engaged to compete the day following at Maryborough.

RACE 5 -HARAS DES TROTTEURS MCNAMARA MEMORIAL TROTTERS CUP (GROUP 3) (2570 SS)

Baltica Nz (10m handicap) was fractious prior to the start resulting in a slight delay and was issued with a warning.

Well Defined NZ (10m handicap) raced roughly shortly after the start.

An inquiry was opened with regards to the circumstances surrounding Well Defined NZ breaking gait on the entry to the first turn when positioned to the outside of Bromwich. It was noted that as of a consequence of galloping the trailing Baltica NZ was checked and galloped in addition to Powderkeg, Robbie Royal NZ and Hopeful Beauty FRA all being inconvenienced. Upon review stewards established that as the field approached the first turn, Bromwich and Well Defined NZ had both been endeavouring to obtain a position one off the marker pegs and came together resulting in Well Defined NZ being checked and breaking gait. As Stewards were satisfied that both runners were entitled to challenge for the position and the incident was not found to be as a result of careless driving, the incident was reported and no further action taken.

Victree Hill had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight on the final occasion.

RACE 6 – YABBY DAM FARMS TROT (2100 MS)

No racing incidents to report

RACE 7 – APG - DEVCON PROPERTIES GEELONG PACING CUP (GROUP 2) (2570 MS)

Sebs Choice was declared a late scratching at 10:20am on veterinarian advice.

Near the 400m, Willy Go West NZ broke gait free of interference and was placed on its last chance to race truly.

Max Delight was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

Tango Tara NZ was held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the event.

Greg Sugars, the driver of Triple Eight NZ reported that his gelding was not suited when positioned outside the leader and given the beaten margin (13.2m) he was satisfied with the gelding’s efforts.

 

RACE 8 – JIMS MOWING PACE (2100 MS)

Rocket Boy raced keenly during the middle stages.

Glen Craven, the driver of Kowalski Analysis ($1.85 favourite) explained that given the gelding was first up since the 7th of May 2022, connections elected to take the gelding back at the start and drive for one run and this tactic would likely continue in the near future.

RACE 9 – SAIL TO THE MORNINGTON PENINSULA PACE (2100 MS)

Michael Bellman, the driver of Iamawingate (9th position beaten 47.6m) was unable to offer any excuse with regards to the performance. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

GENERAL

An inquiry was adjourned with regards to an alleged incident involving licence participants Mr. Ash Warton and Mr. Lauchlan Steenhuis.
