Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – SEAROAD FERRIES PACE (1690 MS)
Athena Babe was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 6:18pm.
Southern GNP NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the geldings having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.
Gigis Grinner (Jeremy Quinlan) was fractious during the early stages of the score up.
Rambunctious (Dwaine Rumble) pulled hard throughout the event.
Robert Walters, driver of Got The Goods was issued a caution for shifting ground approaching the 800m which inconvenienced Rambunctious.
Got The Goods hung inwards approaching the 400m and raced roughly.
Julie Douglas pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 45(5) which reads; A person shall ensure that the correct horse is presented to start in a race The particulars being that as the trainer of Athena Babe Mrs Douglas presented The Egg Counter, the incorrect horse, to start when Athena Babe was engaged to compete resulting in Athena Babe being declared a late scratching. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful of Mrs Douglas guilty plea & prior good record, the circumstances surrounding the error, previous penalties imposed, the seriousness of the offence, specific and general deterrence, and the ultimate responsibility under the AHR Rules rests with the trainer to present the correct horse to start in a trial or race. Mrs Douglas was fined the sum of $1000.
RACE 2 – CGI PACE (2100 MS)
Mach Charm underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.
Baccarat underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races & attaining the age of 12 years or older. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.
Approaching the 600m Be The One (David Murphy) sustained an offside flat tyre when shifting from a running line position to a three (3) wide position simultaneously as Silver Domino (Connor Clarke) which was trialling. Stewards could not place sole blame upon Mr Clarke for this incident with the simultaneous movement.
RACE 3 – SOUTHERN CROSS FEEDS PACE (1690 MS)
Hey Goyougoodthing NZ hung outwards during the score up and was out of position when the start was effected. A warning was issued against the gelding’s barrier manners.
Machavelli (Jack Laugher) & Coveffe Hustler (Robert Walters) failed to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight.
Chris Alford, driver of Hey Goyougoodthing NZ ($12.00) which finished 10th and last position beaten 85.6m was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding. Mr Alford advised the gelding to be disappointing & failed to race in a genuine manner. Hey Goyougoodthing NZ will now be placed on its last chance to race competitively. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Brent Lilley trainer will be contacted in the coming days relative to the gelding’s progress subsequent to the event.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 23 NOVEMBER 2022
Brent Lilley, trainer of Hey Goyougoodthing NZ reported subsequent to the meeting, that the gelding had been treated for a hoof abcess. Mr.Lilley stated that Hey Goyougoodthing NZ will continue with the current preparation.
RACE 4 –VHRC / ALDEBARAN PARK BENEFITING OUR MEMBERS TROT (2100 MS)
Homonym NZ (Emmett Brosnan) began badly as the start was effected. Homonym NZ will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start events.
You Really Got Me NZ (Bailey McDonough) broke gait clear of interference on two (2) separate occasions at the 1900m & 700m. You Really Got Me NZ will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.
One Apollo NZ (Chris Alford) broke gait clear of interference approaching the 200m. A warning was issued against the geldings racing manners.
Valley Star NZ (Brad Chisholm) broke gait clear of interference inside the final 100m and galloped across the line to finish in 4th position. Stewards were satisfied Mr Chisholm had complied to his requirements under the AHR Rules in taking immediate restraint of the gelding along with gelding was not covered when crossing the line by any other runner with a 12.1m margin back to the nearest runner.
RACE 5 -YEOMANS SLATE & STONE - FOR ALL YOUR SLATE & STONE NEEDS 3YO PACE (2100 MS)
Glenline (Anne-Maree Conroy) was slow to begin and will now be placed on its last chance in the draw.
Eye See Amour (Jodi Quinlan) hung outwards and broke gait approaching the 1900m. Eye See Amour will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.
Eye See Amour hung inwards passing the 400m despite the efforts of its driver and contacted the offside hind leg of Glenline causing that runner to brake gait. Eye See Amour will now be placed on its last chance to race truly for hanging inwards.
Cocora (David Miles) hang inwards under pressure inside the final 200m which inconvenienced Machane Said (Jack Laugher)
RACE 6 – JOIN THE VHRC 'THE HEART OF HARNESS RACING' PACE (1609 MS)
Geoff Webster, driver of Ira Poole NZ was issued a caution for being out of position at the candy pole.
Ira Poole NZ broke gait clear of interference passing the 1400m. Ira Poole NZ will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.
Blissfull Lilly (Malcolm Bull) yielded ground from the 750m to finish in 9th and last position beaten 92.1m. Blissfull Lilly will now be stood down from racing for a period of ten (10) days and trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion. In not taking more action stewards were mindful of the overall mile rate of 1.53.6 seconds.
RACE 7 – APG - THE INDUSTRY'S NOT FOR PROFIT SALES CO PACE (2100 MS)
No racing incident to report.
