Trainers with multiple runners in any one race provided stewards with their intentions prior to the event.
RACE 1 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 1800MS
MAJOR MAD –tightened near the 200m when racing to the inside of DOUBLE O HEAVEN NZ.
ROCKING WITH CHARM –led and over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
ABSOLUTION –Driver Anthony Robinson was reprimanded under rule 162(1)(www) for the manner in which he shifted ground near the 150m, resulting in AMMICCHI being inconvenienced.
TIDAL SURGE –used the sprint lane, not fully tested to the line. Driver Corey Johnson was reprimanded under rule 162(1)(r) for failing to release the deafeners as required by the rules. C. Johnson was advised to ensure his drives are fully tested to the line when they have clear running available to them to ensure they finish in their best possible placing.
DOUBLE O HEAVEN NZ –Driver Wayne Hill was reminded of his obligations when racing wide on the track to ensure runners to his inside are afforded the racing room they are entitled to.
RACE 2 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE – 1800MS
FINE ARTIST –held up over the final 400m and unable to be fully tested to the line.
EASY ROLLING –held up over the final 400m and unable to be tested to the line.
BETTOR BEONTOIT NZ –broke gait after the start checking ROSIANO and CLARENDEN ENVOY, will be drawn wide in mobile start events. Held up over the final 400m and unable to be fully tested to the line.
BAYONET SOLDIER –used the sprint lane and was tested to the line.
GIANT JACKSON –driver Scott Forby was fined $250.00 under rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion.
DELIGHTFUL GNP NZ –is reincluded in the barrier draw in mobile start events.
RACE 3 – KEEN OFFICE FURNITURE PACE – 1800MS
ALTHEGIRLSINMYLIFE –hung out in the score up, a warning was issued. Gave ground over the final 600m and is afforded its last chance to race competitively.
MONSIEUR STEEL –hung in near the 1700m tightening the racing room of ROCKY MONALOO. Driver Greg Rogers was fined $100.00 under rule 156(2)(a) for using the whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion.
JUNIOOR BROWN –gave ground over the final 400m, underwent a post-race veterinary examination that revealed no obvious clinical issues of concern. Stewards queried Trainer Driver Samantha Pascoe with respect to the performance, S. Pascoe stated she believed the horse resented being restrained after having gone forward from the start and in future starts, she will not look to go forward from the start unless she is confident that she can obtain a favourable forward position. Furthermore, the Trainer added it would be her intention to continue with the preparation and should she find anything amiss post-race she will notify Stewards.
RACE 4 – AB AIR SERVICES PACE – 1800MS
BLOSSOM DELIGHT - gave ground from near the 500m, trainer Ross Collins said he was dissapointed in the performance and reported that follow up blood results had revealed the horse to be showing the effects of a virus. A warning was issued.
BERNIE MACRAY –raced roughly near the 1650m, a warning was issued.
OHOKA AGENT NZ – hung in contacted marker pegs near the 200m, a warning was issued. Used the sprint lane and was tested to the line.
GIFTEDFROMTHEHEART –gave ground from near the 700m, underwent a post-race veterinary examination that revealed no obvious clinical issues of concern. Trainer Phillip Westbury advised it was his intention to change the bit as he felt the horse had over-raced and may have choked. A warning was issued.
EL AWOMAN –out of position at the start and will continue to be drawn wide in mobile start events. Shifted out near the 1650m when BERNIE MACRAY raced roughly to its inside, inconvenienced WINNIE TANG and a warning was issued. Driver Anthony Robinson was reprimanded under rule 163(1)(b)(i) for causing WINNIE TANG to momentarily race wider on the track near the 800m. A. Robinson was reprimanded under rule 163(3) for half carting in the back straight on the final occasion.
RACE 5 – MITAVITE STUDGRO TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2230SS
SUPER ANGUS –over-raced in the middle stages of the event. Broke gait free of interference near the 300m resulting in it locking wheels with HAMMERS LAW which was severely checked in the incident. Stood down until the completion of one satisfactory requalifying trial. Trainer Scott Pascoe was reprimanded under rule 273(6)(b) for failing to notify a change of gear.
GREAT FANTASY NZ –raced roughly after the start, a warning was issued.
SHEZAGEM –checked near the 300m when SUPER ANGUS broke gait.
RACE 6 – CLAY & MINERAL CLAIMING PACE – 2230MS
SECRET JACK –hung in during the score up, a warning was issued, near the 1650m the nearside rein burr became detached. Trainer Shane Loone was reprimanded under rule 273(2)(b) for insecure gear.
STAR WRITER –held up until using the sprint lane and was tested to the line.
JAKES SPORTWRITER –hung in during the early stages of the score up, a warning was issued.
RACE 7 – NORTH EAST GROUP TROTTERS DISCRETIONARY – 2230SS
ENROLLED –Driver Wayne Hill was fined $50.00 under rule 163(1)(c)(ii) for contacting marker pegs near the 200m.
MUSCLETONIAN – in accord with the HRSA Elevated TCO2 Policy (1st start) was presented on course at 5.57pm - broke gait after the start, a warning was issued.
REILS –over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
MASS DESTRUCTION NZ –underwent a post-race veterinary examination that revealed no obvious clinical issues of concern. Stable representative M Maguire stated the horse had worked well leading into the event however they were disappointed with the performance. He stated the horse has had quite a long preparation and it is the Trainer’s intention to spell the horse.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT –
Globe Derby Park – Saturday 21 May 2022 - RACE 2 – CLAY & MINERAL TROTTERS MOBILE – 2230MS
HRSA Stewards have been informed that preliminary testing of the pre-race blood sample taken from MUSCLETONIAN prior to this race has reported a level of TCO2 in plasma greater than 35.00ml/L (not adjusted). As the level reported exceeds the limit prescribed by the HRSA Elevated TCO2 Policy, Trainer F Pullicino has been informed that in accord with the Policy MUSCLETONIAN would be required to be presented four hours prior to the scheduled start time for each of its next four starts.
Stewards noted that the level reported also exceeded the level reported from a sample taken recently during an unannounced stable visit.
GENERAL -
Licenced Trainer Wayne Gowley was advised that Stewards would expect him to in future conduct himself in an appropriate manner when issued a directive from an Official.
Several drivers were advised that they would need to further modify their whip use to ensure that they fully comply with the current whip rules.
This Report and the Stewards Comments for the race meeting may be amended at the discretion of the Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) Stewards as races are routinely reviewed.
